21  KNITTING / Knitalongs / Re: Beginner Cardigan Knit-Along on: April 06, 2012 12:44:55 AM
Well, Gail is planning to do a walk through on how to figure out how to change your size.  I'm too small of a bust for it, so I have to change the pattern too.

I think it looks really hard for me too, but I am going to get all the help I need and do my best!  I'm sure with an expert's help, any beginner can make this work! Smiley

Hi everyone!
I thought I'd say howdy and let you guys know about a knit-along!

I'm a beginner and met Gail, an experienced knitter through Ravelry.  We decided to do a knit-along on our blogs.  And of course, the more the merrier!  Now I hope this is okay, since most of the topics on this board seem to be knit-alongs WITHIN craftster.  I hope I'm not out of line here.

Anyway, we are going to be knitting the Miette cardigan.  http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/miette
It's cute, and free too!

You can see our intro blog posts here:

Gail is going to be doing lots of helpful walking-through for beginners!

Hope this doesn't come off as self promotional, but basically, I want as many people as possible to join, the more the merrier right?  Gail is going to be putting plenty of work into her posts and I want as many people as possible to benefit Smiley

I just love the online community there is around sewing and knitting/crochet, it's so supportive and nice Smiley  If you think you'd like to knit along, do join us!

Hahaha, this is so cute!  Thanks for taking the time to add pictures to your tutorial.  It makes all the difference in making it easy to use I think!
24  CROCHET / Amigurumi: Discussion and Questions / Re: How do YOU make patterns? on: April 03, 2012 04:16:23 PM
I found this page:  It is a series, so do check out part 2,3 etc.  They are linked at the bottom of the page.  It looks like it has some useful tips!
I have yet to use their instructions but they are a nice place to start I think!

Of course, trial and error is good too, haha.  That's how I designed my first amigurumi element (big old ears- you can see it here:  http://makingitwell.blogspot.co.nz/2012/04/chihuahua-amigurumi.html)

For incorporating more complex elements:
This topic has some good advice:

And one more link for ya!

I haven't actually delved into much pattern making and complex design yet but I'm planning to use these links when I do!  Hope they help!

I've only made one amigurumi before, my second one is for a friend.  I mostly used the same parts as my first pattern (you can see it here- it's a design by Ana Paula Rimoli)- http://makingitwell.blogspot.co.nz/2012/02/my-first-amigurumi.html).
But I made up my own ears and tail, and made some fancy colour changes (I felt all fancy for learning it!)

There are more pics on my blog here:  http://makingitwell.blogspot.co.nz/2012/04/chihuahua-amigurumi.html

Amigurumi is so fun.  I want to make more!

This is so amazing!!!  I've been thinking for years (ever since Twilight Princess) that the awesome, ornate heart containers from the latest zeldas would make the most awesome beautiful necklace and you've done it!  You've brought what I've been imagining to life!  I hit the "this ROCKS" button so hard!!

ugh you are my hero of the day! Smiley

28  CROCHET / Amigurumi: Discussion and Questions / Re: Where oh where to buy yarn online? on: February 26, 2012 02:03:23 PM
Thanks for the tip on Ebay, will have to check that out!
Cherry Masscare- I think it must be a UK/Aussie/NZ thing that we don't have 10ply or something.  For now I've done as you do and bought an 8 ply Smiley

Wow, cool! Smiley  I like the idea of crocheting a washcloth, a neat way to make something really practical that also adds a splash of coolness to your chores Smiley
