1  I learned how to knit this evening! in Knitting: Discussion and Questions by TheGirlfriend on: September 21, 2010 12:03:59 AM
With the help of Mike's and the internet I taught myself how to cast on, and do a few rows. I haven't gone as far as to figure out how to cast off yet....but it's a start.

Here it is! My very first square makes it's debut!

2  Re: duct tape dress forms. show them to me. in Sewing in General: Discussion and Questions by TheGirlfriend on: July 17, 2010 11:37:45 PM
didn't look too bad minus the obvious lack of substance in the hips

but it turned out it's nothing like me at all. no real shape to it.

so i added and stuffed a bra

then i threw an ugly wool t shirt on over top of it. and tried put my dress back on it

we're getting there. tomorrow i'll work on the hips...it needs to be more hourglassy. here's what the dress actually looks like on me.

3  duct tape dress forms. show them to me. in Sewing in General: Discussion and Questions by TheGirlfriend on: July 17, 2010 09:30:48 PM
I'm in the process of making one. I'll add pictures as I go.
Here's a shot after TheBoyfriend helped me wrap myself in duct tape. After I explained the process to him he was more than eager to go out and hunt down a few rolls. He followed me to the bathroom when he saw me grab the tape and scissors. I didn't even have to ask for his help.
It sort of lacks in the ta-tas [good for the self esteem], and he wrapped me a little tight so my dress form is a few pounds skinnier than an actual me [bad for the self esteem] Undecided

Have you made one?
Was it successful?

Again, I'll post with more pictures soon-ish.

4  Tuxedo Dress in Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by TheGirlfriend on: July 17, 2010 12:21:23 PM
I was inspired after seeing this tutorial: http://community.livejournal.com/t_shirt_surgery/3600472.html

With just minor modifications of length and the addition of straps, I created this. Rather than sew the bow tie on, I just stole my boyfriends  Cheesy

This is my first dress ever. I'm super proud of myself, especially considering I couldn't find the tutorial again before jumping into the project. I generally operate off memory and measuring...no patterns, no tutorials.
It only works for me about half the time  Tongue but this time I think it was WIN!

*crappy cell phone/mirror picture is crappy. sorry*
