11  CLOTHING / Clothing for Kids: Discussion and Questions / Re: Infant Petticoat Romper on: September 19, 2010 06:15:45 PM
I managed to get my hands on a sample.  It looks like it was a flat piece of fabric with lace sewn on using elastic thread.  Then the sides were sewn together to make it into a tube.  then at one end, it was sewn to make little legs... and at the other end an elastic band was sewn in to hold it up.  It actually looks pretty easy to make Smiley

Has anyone ever made one before?  Any tips or advice you could offer?

16  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing Machines: Discussion and Questions / Antique Singer Treadle on: July 25, 2010 08:38:02 AM
I just recently got a singer v-series class 15K treadle machine.  It came with a whole bunch of bobbins, bobin cases, and other accessories which are a bit dirty.  as is the machine.  I would like to clean all of it.
I was thinking of using finishing wool on all of the accessories, but for the machine itself I am not sure...
has anyone ever cleaned 100 years of dirt and grime off an old sewing machine?  any tips or advice?  I dont want to damage the finish on the machine.
thanks!
