1  Re: Tea/Cofee Cozy Swap in The Swap Gallery by jshires on: June 08, 2008 10:23:20 PM
And here are the pics of Frogger's super sweet package! I only have my cell camera currently and I had to take them tonight, so the lighting could be better, so if you have better pics, Frogger, please post yours too.

Here's everything all together, a green cabled cozy that perfectly fits and matches my favorite little travel mug, another really pretty purply ribbed cozy that I think will be perfect with my other mug, some delicious smelling coffee from a local shop near Frogger (the bag says they roast it in the shop...that is soo cool and I bet that place smells great) And...best thing ever! An awesome tea wallet with Gnomes! That's right, friends, she said she hunted everywhere to get me that fabric with little gnomes pushing wheelbarrows of mushrooms. Absolutely fabulous! I love it so much I've been carrying it around with me for the past two days!

And here is a close up of the green cozy around my fave mug (the mug is a small one...meant for kids I think, but perfect for espresso, so the cozy is normal sized, not gigantic like the pic makes it seem. Makes it even better that it does fit the little mug. And see how perfect the colors match?)

And of course I had to get a close up of the Gnomes:

I love everything Frogger! Thank you soo much!

2  My new Kurt Halsey Backpack!! in Sublime Stitching Embroidery by jshires on: August 18, 2007 10:02:12 PM
Thats right! I am the proud owner of a Kurt Halsey backpack!

I bought a new backpack last weekend for school and decided to spruce it up. So I ordered the Kurt Halsey pack and stitched away...and three or four days (and many sore thumbs) later (that canvas is a biotch to stitch through) I got this:

Close up of the bird and bee:

And a close up of the other bee and the angel:

I'm so in love with it...I think I will possibly have the coolest backpack in school! (not to toot my own horn too much)

3  Re: Once You Pop You Can't Stop Swap #4 Gallery in The Swap Gallery by jshires on: August 01, 2007 12:24:08 PM
Ok. Sorry for the double post, but I just took pics and so here they are!

Everything:

Here is a wallet/checkbook cover and a credit card holder made out of a fantastic turtle batik (turtles are my favorite, and red and orange are my second and third favorite colors!) and a cute sticky note pad cover (in green! my fave color!)

Here is a really cool keychain, and a gorgeous swarovski necklace that my cameraphone does not do justice! The necklace was made by Atsuko. I LOVE it!!!

And my absolute fave!!! This lil owl stuffy was something from a post on here that I had absolutely coveted!! I even wisted it! I love it!! And the turtle was also much coveted!! I'm soooo happy that Whatzudoin made them for me!!

I really love everything!! I can only hope my partner like the stuff I made her even half as much as I LOVE all my stuff!! (I am using the wallet as we speak. I transfered all my cash and cards on my lunch break!!)

Thank You SOO much!!!

4  Pretty Sparkly Jewelry (Largish Pics) in Beads: Completed Projects by jshires on: April 15, 2007 09:16:15 AM
Hi! I made this necklace the other day:

It is made with a lampwork glass focal and swarovski crystals (that I already had in my stash and they matched the pendant perfectly!)

And this is a bracelet that my boyfriend made me:

It's also made of swarovski crystals, and this pic doesn't do it justice. Its so sparkly! He's pretty talented, huh? That was his first piece.

Thanks for looking and sorry the pics are so large, but when I made them smaller, I lost all the details...

6  Re: Show off your hair! And questions about hair styles! in Bath and Beauty: Discussion and Questions by jshires on: November 21, 2006 09:24:57 PM
Hello all! I've been reading these posts to get inspiration and I really want to cut my hair. I've had it short, but I've been growing it out for about 2 years now. Its a little over shoulder length and very thick and wavy. I really like Lizzy Caplan's haircut (She plays Kat on the CBS show The Class) I tried to find a good pic of it to no avail...but think dark (I will probably dye it) Shaggy layers, kind of a rocker vibe, with long jagged bangs. This is as close as I can find (thats Zooey Deschanel...the girl with dark hair)

http://images.starpulse.com/Photos/pv/Zooey%20Deschanel-7.jpg

Do you all think I could pull it off? How should I ask for this type of cut? Here's a pic of me (My hair is much longer, this pic is kinda old. And I had straightened it here...but this gives you an idea of my face and haircolor/type)

Sorry for the huge pic and the long post...Thanks in advance for any advice!

7  Some of my work...comments welcome (img heavy) in More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works by jshires on: June 14, 2006 01:05:56 PM
These are a few of the things I've done. I mainly enjoy conte crayon, dry pastel, and charcoal (I love how messy I can get with them Smiley ) These were all projects for various classes so I wasn't able to get too creative with them. And unfortunatly the flash from my camera really washed them out. They are much more vibrant in person. (Obviously I'm no photographer...) Anyway, on to the pics:

This is a still life in dry pastel:

Another still life in conte crayon (the background is pastel):

This one is charcoal (and my first drawing, so be kind)

This is done from a photo of my grandpa, in charcoal, conte crayon and pastel. Sorry for the flash, its wrapped in shrinkwrap since I submitted it for a show at school. Also, the contrast between the conte and charcoal isn't as obvious in person:

This one is also conte crayon and pastel:

And finally this piece is black ink, white paint:

What do you think? I know I have far to go to develop techniques, so I would really like some constructive criticism (but please be kind, my fragile ego can only take so much Wink ) Thanks!!

8  Re: Tropical Room Ideas!! in Interior Decorating: Discussion and Questions by jshires on: June 07, 2006 11:39:49 AM
I couldn't find another tutorial so if you need further explanation, just let me know. Here is a similar shutter so you get the idea of how it would look:

and here are links for the shades:
http://www.ikea.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId=10103&storeId=12&langId=-1&productId=10842
and the stretcher frames:
http://www.frenchcanvas.com/giverny_main.asp?intCatalogID=1&strCatalog_NAME=Giverny%20Stretcher%20Frame
you would want one without any bars in the middle. this site had the best pics i could find, and they aren't that great.

So I finally got my own crafting area! (It used to be our dining room, but we never used it so...) On to the pics!

Heres the other side:

Heres my desk where the magic happens:

My crystal chandelier over my desk (it just holds a candle):
