11  BATH AND BEAUTY / Bath and Beauty: Discussion and Questions / Re: Making EO's at home? on: July 07, 2010 07:02:53 PM
I've recently taken on an assistant/apprentice and he is horribly curious about everything bath/body/soapmaking. We've talked about expressing EO's in my lab, but have yet to do so (later this summer). I'd suggest reading Mandy Aftel's book "Essence & Alchemy" -- it is a lovely book detailing the perfume industry throughout the centuries up to modern times and there are drawings of large scale steam distillation stills in the book. If you are (or know someone who is) at all 'handy' you can make the stills at home. I tried to make a rose enfleurage recently and was not happy w/ the results ( I think the weather was a little too warm and accelerated the rancidity of the veg. shortening I used ) but will try again because I love an experiment.

13  BATH AND BEAUTY / Bath and Beauty: Discussion and Questions / Re: Rebatching on: November 08, 2007 06:53:54 PM
I've added up to 12 ounces (weight) of liquid (infusions, fruit juice, veg. glucerin, etc) per lb. of grated cold process soap and found that the resulting rebatched soap cured into hard, long lasting bars. I'm not a big fan of rebatching b/c its a lot of work but I've had decent resluts with it. Hope this helps!

Anchor Tattoo did my latest ink. They don't have any attitude, take good care of you, let you have smoke breaks and play good music (IMHO). Its in Ballard on Market St....ask for Curits James (2313 NW Market St, 206-784-4051). You can see my tattoo on myspace.com (search for Inger).

16  BATH AND BEAUTY / Bath and Beauty: Discussion and Questions / Re: I love philosophy products...so how can I make my own? on: March 23, 2005 02:56:15 PM
Liberty Natural Products sells a few different unscented body washes. You can order from them in bulk (I think the min. order is $50--but you will spend that quicker than you know!)--they A TON of essential oils, cosmetic grade oils & waxes, all kinds of good stuff. I've never used Philosophy  products, I've only smelled them. If you want to make a cupcake fragrance, you need to look for a few different fragrance oils. Main scents would be vanilla, butter, chocolate. Sweetcakes.com is a great fragrance oil supplier. Not all vanilla fragrance oils smell like vanilla extract--some have a buttery or cookie-like fragrace already in them...hope this helps!

Rock On, Alison! Thank you for sharing! I used to work for Lush...they aren't as "natural" or PC as they lead people to believe. We're all better off making our OWN cosmetics! DIY BABY
