1  Mini 12 Days of Christmas 2015 (sign up 7-26-17 to 8-10-15; s/o 11-23-15) in Craft Swaps by Audania1 on: July 26, 2015 03:10:47 PM

Mini 12 Days of Christmas 2015

Its that time of year again!  Time to sign up for the MINI 12 DAYS OF CHRISTMAS SWAP!!!!  It may seem a bit early to some, but I love knowing theres a long crafting time.  Especially since this swap is on the bigger side and the holidays can be hectic so, starting early just makes things easier and stress free.
This is a swap for all you Craftsters out there who would like to do a Christmas/Holiday swap but, feel that the original 12 Days Of Christmas swap is too big for them.  Be sure to read everything through and that you understand it all. If you have any questions feel free to post them in this thread or send me a pm.

******  DUE TO THE SIZE AND NATURE OF THIS SWAP I WILL NOT BE ACCEPTING FIRST TIME SWAPPERS OR PEOPLE WHO REGULARLY SEND LATE. I will be checking everyones swap history to make sure that projects are going to be sent ON TIME. Nobody wants to receive a Christmas swap package in January. Even worse, nobody wants to be flaked on and it would be ridiculously hard to find a SWAP ANGEL at this time of year. I am going to be VERY firm on this so please do not send in a questionnaire if you have sent late more than 2 or 3 times in the last 2 years. If you feel you still want to try and send in a questionnaire that is ok, but just know that I may veto it and not accept you in this swap.

-ANY "negative" feedback and/or comments
-poor communication in past swaps
-consistently sending late in past swap
-I am NOT accepting first time swappers
Note: I will also leave feedback reflecting your actual participation in the swap (good/poor communication, early/late sending, etc)

Details of swap:

The idea of this swap is to craft for your partner 12 items based on their interests, going along with the idea of the 12 Days Of Christmas song. The items that you make DO NOT have to be the items in the 12 days of Christmas song. The items sent/received can be BOTH everyday items and Christmas/Winter themed goodies. You will be making 2 large, 4 medium and 6 smalls for a total of 12 days. This is a bare minimum of larges and mediums. If you wish to make more larges and mediums than smalls, that is perfectly fine as long as you consult your partner. It stinks is you work super hard on your projects and all you receive is a lot of smalls in return so PLEASE dont do that to yourself and just talk to your partner!

A really nice way to do it is start with smalls and then lead up to the larges. Also, its worth noting that if you are sending food items then maybe they should be opened the first couple of days so they dont go bad.

So, the break down can be:
Days 1-6 small
Days 7-10 medium
days 11-12 large

You are not relegated to this particular order if you want to change it up. This is just how it has been done in the past. If you are making large wearable item, you may also want to have them open it early so they can use it through the season.

In the past round it was 75% crafted items & 25% store bought.
(extras are optional and are solely up to you.)

Below are Craftster guidelines for size requirements to help everyone. If you are having troubles with a certain size feel free to make an equivalent to the particular size. For instance, instead of a medium, you could look at the guidelines and substitute the 1 medium for perhaps 2 or 3 smalls. Just be sure to look at the guidelines and use your best judgment. Put yourself in your partners shoes and ask yourself if you think you would be happy with the equivalent of the items they choose. And, if in doubt, you can always send a pm to me and get a second opinion, and if youre still in doubt, ask another person in this swap. Here are the guidelines:

By Time
-Large = 3 or more hours
-Medium = 2 or more hours
-Small = 2 or less hours

By Price
-Large = $30 or more
-Medium = $10-$30 dollars
-Small = $10 or less

By Size
-Large = A shawl, a shirt, a skirt, a set of jewelry with four to five items, a purse, DIY kits, blankets, bags, totes, cable knitted items, place mat sets, cable leg warmers, pretty knit socks, kitchen set of potholders/apron, set of embellished dish towels.
-Medium = one single necklace or bracelet, a scarf, wrist warmers, thread catcher, note card set, hats, magic yarn ball, embroidered pillow case, apron, stencil shirts.
-Small = Earrings, stickers, wallets, pouches, bookmarks, hand carved stamps, coasters, pot holder, key chain, dish clothes, decorated frames, journals, head bands, pincushion, heat packs.

Please note-these are just ideas of crafts to make.  I have potholders in the small category.  However, if you make an intricate one with lots of pieces or an embroidered one, it could also count as a medium, or if you make a set of 4 that could be considered medium too.  I just put it in the small category because I was thinking of one simple potholder.  So, please use your best judgment with sizes.  You can always ask my opinion or another swappers opinion if you want.  I think the most important thing is to put yourself in the receivers shoes Would you be happy receiving a simple potholder as a small item?  Would you be happy if your large item was a cabled scarf?  Anyways..

Note:  In the past there has been slight confusion on how to label packages.  So just to make it clear the first package you want your partner to open, you label as #1.  Then for the 2nd package you want them to open youd label #2 the second and so on.  So, #12 package would be the last package opened.  You can also label them by dates, as in put 'DEC 14th' on the first gift your partner will open then the last gift would be labeled DEC 25th.  Either way you want to label them is fine.  Just make sure that the small gifts are opened first and the last gifts opened are the large.

1. You must send ALL PM's to Audania1 and all PM's must have the subject line: Mini 12 Days of Christmas 2015 with either "questionairre", "sent", "received" in it.

2. You must post in the original thread at least once a week! This starts once partners are assigned. That is only about 10 posts. I know some people dont like to post/check in. So Im going to make it fun for everyone. As every Monday I will post a simple question. It may be "What is your favorite Christmas song?" Mine is "Mary, Did you Know?" by the Pentatonix. All you do is answer the question and say one of the following: a) still crafting, b) done crafting or c) mailed items

3.PM's must be sent to Audania1 and your partner when you send and receive. If you are sending within the USA or Canada you must get a DC# / tracking # and send it to Audania1 and your partner. If you are sending outside of your country, you must keep your receipt as proof of shipping, it will be requested if there are any problems! This is mandatory!

4. When you open each days package, you will then need to post in the gallery. I ask that you post pictures within a reasonable amount of time. I know that the Holiday season can be quite hectic, but please get them posted within 5 days of opening. Posting pictures is a requirement for this swap! If you don't have a digital camera and cannot get access to one, please ask your partner to take pictures before they send.

5. The following items are NOT allowed in swap packages:
- Anything that is illegal in the U.S. or wherever you are sending your package to or from.
- Any items that have a legal age requirement to consume in the U.S. such as tobacco, alcohol, pornography etc.
- Mixed CDs containing copyrighted music or similar, including copied software, CDs, DVDs, etc
If you are uncertain please check Craftsters guidelines as well as your local post office

2. If you are sending BAKED GOODS, please only send them if you and your partner live in the same country. I don't want anyone's package to go MIA with the lovely customs officials. Also, if you are sending baked goods, you may leave them out of your package and send them individually so they arrive in a timely manner and don't spoil or go stale.

3. I highly recommend that you wrap your items in a plastic bag/trash bag/ or some other protective wrapping INSIDE the box you are sending. Because of the time of the year packages can get WET due to the post office/ups/etc. leaving them on the doorstep AND some swappers have suggested that you also do this with anything you might send to a hot climate that might melt on your swap goodies.

4. Also, if you will be shipping to a partner that is in a HOT climate during the swap send outs, please do not include anything that might melt on their swap goodies. Think about wrapping them in a plastic baggie or something similar.

5. Here is some info from the USPS on the Flat Rate Boxes: these can be used for Domestic and International but the rates differ for International shipments. And if you purchase your postage online at usps.com or by paypal, com you get a small discount on the postage price. The Flat Rate boxes themselves are FREE (you still have to pay for postage ) from your local post office and also FREE if you get them online from the website usps.com, they will deliver them to you free of charge too!! Canada has some shipping envelopes that can be used within the country or region and prices will vary, but if you are sending something heavy they are a good choice.

6. I highly recommend that each of you put together a PINTEREST. These are a huge help for your swap partner. They get to look through all the things you have put into it to get a feel for what you like.  If you do not have a Pinterest account, please pm me and I will send you an invite so you can get started sooner than the 2 day wait or whatever it is now.

Also remember to read the Swap Info Guide to find out how to ship your packages and other details about participating in a swap.

Please remember to keep in the holiday spirit.  Extras are optional-but quality is NOT optional.  I want everyone to receive nice items that were crafted/bought with them in mind.  So, in other words Please read their questionnaire over and over and make sure you are sending them something they will like (not just something you like to make), and not just random things thrown in a box.  Its never fun to receive a thought-less package, especially when they worked hard to make you crafty wonderful-ness from the heart.

2  Re: 2015 Annual DeStash-Along in Craftalongs by Audania1 on: July 23, 2015 11:10:48 AM
Audania1 - that is a beautiful nightgown!  I'm not surprised your niece loves it.  My daughter has a flannel one similar in style and she keeps wanting to wear it - even when it's still 70F at night Tongue

Haha! I want to make more of these in flannel but I'm afraid that is exactly what my kids would do also! I think I am sticking to the cotton for now... it keeps them fairly warm in the winter but, man! The summer heat! Ick!

Here is something I made for the One Awesome Harry Potter Thing Swap and it is entirely from stash! I was so happy!

And here are a couple of my favorite patches:

I had bought a bag of "scraps" from the thrift store about a year and a half ago for $2.50 for about a 10 lb. bag! The scraps were beautiful fabric examples of textiles from Macy's and J.C. Penny's and such and were perfect for doing small 4" hoop projects. I also had all the little beads, figures, charms, etc. as well as the star fabric that I bought a few years ago at my fabric-addict store because "I thought it was pretty and I needed it". The strap was from curtains I bought from our first house that we don't use anymore and I'm forever using up 6 84" panels of. I'm so happy to have been able to use straight from stash!

And I think that covers July's prompt: blue for the lining and it is definitely abstract  Cheesy

3  Re: 2015 Annual DeStash-Along in Craftalongs by Audania1 on: July 19, 2015 09:00:52 PM
Ok, I've decided to join in! Yes, yes I do realize that it is the middle of July but I don't care! My stash hoard is huge and it needs to be managed!!
I have tons of fabric, patterns, notions, yarn, embroidery and misclaneous things like tile, corks, beads, stuffing, buttons, jewelry findings, stamping, silk flowers, canning jars, ribbon, crochet thread, glitter, and all sorts of things, things, things! It needs to be used. I swear, I get ideas and then I go out and buy the stuff to make it and then it doesn't happen.

Well, dang it, it's gonna happen! My goal for the rest of this year is to use 80% stash items to 20% new in each project. More stash use, if possible. The only reason I have the 20% is for when I run out of thread or need elastic to finish a project.
I just cannot continue to justify purchasing more product when I have a ton of stuff at home.

To begin this de-stash I have made my niece a nightgown! This was from a king sized flat sheet that I purchased at our local thrift shop. I originally bought it because I wanted to make a cute halter dress for myself out of it. Alas, such is the way of things that it sat in my closet for months. Over Thanksgiving, my sister, mom, and I went to the Charles Dicken's Christmas Fair in San Francisco and my two girls were sporting homemade nightgown's with their hair in braids looking the picture of Christmas children awaiting Santa. My niece loved the nightgown's so much that she made several comments throughout the last few months that she wanted one too.
Well, I only had a pattern that went to a size 6 and she is turning 8. Instead of buying a new pattern, I took the time and traced the old one, scaling it to an 8 year old kiddo. I grabbed the fabric I already had and whipped this baby up in 2 afternoons!

This is my daughter sporting it. I did have to buy the lace trim, but I already had the fabric, elastic, thread and button for closure so I feel like it's a win! And my niece LOVES it! Even though it's the dead of summer she wears it every time I've come over (4 times in the last 2 weeks).
Looking forward to more de-stashing!

4  Re: One Awesome Harry Potter Thing (OAHPT) - Round 2 Gallery in The Swap Gallery by Audania1 on: July 19, 2015 02:31:41 PM
Oh my gosh! I am in love with everything!!  I will have to come back and comment on all of the awesomeness but I received a few days ago and wanted to get my beauteous item out there!

Jenleahlynn did a wonderful job!!  Now, obviously, we all love Harry Potter or we wouldn't even be in this swap. Well, growing up, I have also loved this one particular drawing by M.C. Escher of stairs going in all directions. Now if you are a super nerd like me, you watched Labyrinth growing up and they do a song and find Toby crawling through the stairs. Anyway, she took that and did a fabulously awesome mish-mash of both!

I give you:

but then you have to flip it over and get another view:

It's just so neat that I'm not sure how I want to put it on my wall lol!  I love it so much - thank you for all of your hard work and consideration, Jenleahlynn!!!  Also, if you have better pictures then please post them!

5  Mini 12 Days of Christmas round ???? in New Swap Theme Ideas by Audania1 on: July 11, 2015 04:50:57 PM
Mini 12 Days of Christmas Round???

Hey there guys! It's time for another round of the Mini 12 days of Christmas!!  I'm putting the word out and will beginning sign ups August 1st through the 10th. If you post in this thread that you think you want to join then I will send you a reminder notification when I start sign ups.  Wink

I will be trying to keep it flake free so I won't be accepting first time swappers or people who regularly send late. I will be checking everybody's previous feedback. This is a wonderful holiday to craft for and it's just horribly sad when people either don't get their items or end up getting them way late and can't use them for that holiday.

I hope to see many of your lovely faces/icon's there! Smiley

6  Re: OMG - I need a drink swap GALLERY (send outs July 10) in The Swap Gallery by Audania1 on: July 10, 2015 02:59:20 PM
What a great package! That cozy is awesome! lol Smiley Love the "eat me" treat, the charms and the stamp! Sweet!

I received from legatostroke today! Be prepared for the explosion of photos and awesomeness! Pinning fingers ready?  Ok, go!

Here are the first two glasses. The champagne flute is Merida and the other is Ariell!! Legatostroke has some serious etching skills!

The words on the back of Merida's read "A lady does not place her weapons on the table" and check out that wine charm and the cute little etched arrow!!

What is kind of funny and I'm pretty sure my partner didn't know it but my daughter's and I love archery! We just did a camp out/archery tournament a few weeks ago  Cheesy

And the back of Ariel's says "Somebody's got to nail that girls fins to the floor" and it came with a fabulous dinglehopper! Seriously looks just like Triton's Trident!

The next two are Tinkerbell and Rapunzel!

Tink's writing says: A little bit of Pixie Dust
And check out the adorable castle!

Rapunzel's Says "Something brought you here. Call it what you will... Fate... Destiny...
and then you drink to the bottom and it finishes with Flynn Rider's:

"A horse."

Sadly, there was one casualty in this package. Sad Unfortunately it was a white wine glass. The good thing is only the stem shattered and I can still use the "bowl" of it decorateively. I may put some moss and an air plant in it. Smiley It is
Alice in Wonderland:

The back

"Curiosity Often Leads to Trouble"
and the beautiful Cheshire cat and key charm that came with it

These are the delicious drinks cards she sent that I seriously can't wait to get to making!

And I just love everything! I am seriously in love with every. single. piece. Including broken Alice! You have awesome etching skills and I bow before it!
We are so much Disnerds in our house and I noted in my questionairre if she could do something to mix the two then that would be super cool and she did so much more! Thank you so much for going so obviously above the call of the craft swap. Thank you thank you!

And, now, in action:

OK I am ready to post the fabulousness that my awesome swap partner sent me! Seriously, luvbuggy99,  I love everything!
First are a lovely hand painted book of 221 Baker Street and a painted box of Charms and Potions:

What is inside, you ask? My own John and Sherlock in their flat of course!

And inside my Hogwarts box are an awesome set of potions and charms and a necklace chain to wear one or all on!

Next is a beautiful minimalist artistic drawing of Rapunzel. I love it! I don't think I even told her but I was Rapunzel for Halloween this year!

I received these adorable bookmarks

And the backs

I love Jane Austen, especially Pride and Prejudice, so this is greatly loved!

She also sent this fabulous extra! It is a small Game of Thrones Mystery Figure! There is no way to know from the outside who it is - even the bag inside is black so you can't see until you take it out. Who do you think was in there? It was actually my VERY favorite character, Arya! I couldn't believe how lucky I am!

And the super card accompanying everything

Thank you, thank you, thank you so much! Everything is wonderful and I am so much in love with it all!

9  Tiny Alice Down the Rabbit Hole Pin Cushion in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by Audania1 on: April 16, 2015 07:08:27 PM
Not sure if this is the right place to post this so feel free to move it if it needs to be done!

I was just recently in an O.T.T. Alice swap and I created a little mish-mash of Alicisms in a pin cushion for my partner.
I went down to the thrift shop where I got this adorable little cream pourer and knew it needed to be turned into a pin cushion. I made one in a crescent moon shape in strawberry fabric and then draped and stitched a mossy net fabric over it before epoxying it to the inner rim of the dish. Then I made a little wire wrap posable doll of Alice. I added trinkets to the dish: white rabbit, teacup and saucer, heart, key, a chain with ALICE charm letters a couple of mushrooms and a heart topped stick pin.

Here it is!
