13  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: General / super quick washi tape bday prezzie on: September 10, 2012 11:01:45 AM
i forgot my co-worker friend's birthday until the night before... so i whipped up a set of blank cards for him!

i made the envelopes from atlas pages...

like i always seem to...

and the cards were made from colored cardstock and coordinating washi tape stripes

he really liked them, and i hope you all do, too!

c&c always welcome!

14  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / I <3 october! on: September 10, 2012 10:53:53 AM
I began making tea towels and dishtowels using what I call "the cursive stripe" for gifts for friends... I've made several, but this was the one that started the whole thing!

This was made for a friend who LOVES October and everything it brings... fall weather, Halloween, pumpkin flavored everything...

It was easy and quick to make. I used three strands of dmc floss, backstitch and french knots for the dots over the i's... I just drew a line with a ruler, wrote out iloveoctoberiloveoc toberiloveoctober with a disappearing marker, and stitched away...

I didn't get a picture of it ironed, but I love how it turned out...

as always, c&c welcome and appreciated!
15  NEEDLEWORK / Sublime Stitching Embroidery / Oh, Deer! on: September 08, 2012 02:20:44 PM
I sewed up a buck from Sublime Stitching for my dear friends (ha!). Backstory: we all lived in Japan together (some Japanese, some American) and when 5 of us moved back to the states (and back to Chicago) over a period of a few years, we began calling our selves "deer 5"... in Japanese, shika is deer and go is five... shikago = Chicago = deer 5. Yay word play!

Anyway! It was my first time trying crayon tinting... I'm pleased with how it turned out! I used 3-4 strands of DMC, backstitch, satin stitch and a few french knots and it's sewn on an old cotton pillow case.

Close up... I feel like I lost my satin stitch mojo with these leaves! I ripped out stitches more than once, but I felt like I just couldn't get them smooth. maybe it was the shape of the leaf?

but, I liked how most of the details turned out nonetheless

and here he is all framed up in his new home!

as always, comments and critiques are always welcome!

I was STRUCK with inspiration while watching a French film last night (that's a hint as to what inspired me... heehheeeeeeeeee sneaky!), and now I've totally changed what I'm doing now! BUT, I'm really excited about my new idea, and I wasn't super into what I had going on before. Woot!

I like the sneaky mystery of it, too. I have my materials all picked out and mostly ready for putting-togetherness... now, i just have to choose which sketch to go with and narrow down the color palette. multiples still may happen.

oooooh... color palette generator... why is it that generators are always radical? (anagram generators, the ones that save you from black outs, etc)
