21  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / Blue Toile Purse on: January 11, 2007 08:01:28 PM
Just finished this one, first time using the Toile print.  The material is a canvas type with a blue/cream Toile print.  Matching blue canvas/denimy material lining, silver D-Rings attaching strap.  I also added silver eyelets, one on each side, sewed blue grosgrain ribbon, snipped the ends into fancy ribbon tips and tied them in a bow.

22  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / My First Wallet on: January 07, 2007 03:21:16 PM
I took an image in my head thinking about wallets I've purchased in the past, cut out the fabric and just started sewing.  I had a handful of goofs and did some pretty good cover ups.  I would have to say the only thing that I couldn't cover up was the extra waves of fabric on the middle part where the zipper change pouch is.

Wallet:
Velcro flap closure
Slots for credit cards
Clear sleeve for your ID
Zippered  pouch for change/$$

What do you think?  Any suggestions on how to make it where it's not so floppyish with the extra fabric in the middle?  Any comments or suggestions are welcome as I want to make more.  This one took me about an hour and a half to complete.

This matches the purse I just made and posted recently as well (see link).

23  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / Just like riding a bike on: December 30, 2006 10:00:35 PM
It's been so long since I've had the chance to sew a purse, I had to say it's just like riding a bike...you never forget.   Grin  Anyhew, the only thing I don't like is that I forgot to add a closure to the top but since it's kind of a tote/purse, it really isn't that big of a deal.  I want to make a matching wallet as well.  The lining I got from Walmart a couple years ago and only bought like a yard of it but now I wish I had bought more.  It's a denim type material as is the outside too.  There was an extra piece I had cut so I appliqued it to the front and hand sewed matching mini beads on each color strip.  All in all I love the bag and can't wait to make more.  Dimensions are:

11" across top
15" across bottom
12.5" tall
Applique is 8" across x 4" down
Strap is 31" long
*Sorry, no measurements of depth, maybe 1.5 to 2"?

Comments welcome...thanks!

24  CLOTHING / Clothing for Kids: Completed Projects / Children's Aprons (image heavy) on: December 16, 2006 08:18:29 PM
It's been forever and a day since I've sewn so I got busy today and made a bunch of aprons.  I've been selling them after making one for my son (see picture) for Christmas to go along with his Easy Bake Oven.  Yes, boys cook too.  Smiley  Anyways, I made plain heart one first, then made my sons with Disney Cars and finished out the day with two Disney Princess prints.  I've sold the 3 others and still have to make 3 more for people that already have their money in.  I've had so much fun doing this.  It's my own pattern, just had the image in my head, drew it out on paper and shazam...there you have it.

25  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Discussion and Questions / Bible Cover pattern on: April 04, 2006 02:53:12 PM
Does anyone know of a place I can get a free or purchasable bible cover pattern for sewing?  I feel pretty confident I can make it on my own but I'm a little questionable about the zipper.
26  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Discussion and Questions / Bootie type bag question on: March 31, 2006 08:30:18 PM
I'm making a bag using my sons old jeans (he's a toddler) and I've come across this before where the snap or whatever is clasping it together, is so close to the top that you can't sew the lining to the outer fabric.  In this case it's the snap of the jeans that was already there.  How the heck am I going to sew that part together?  Suggestions?
27  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / Sea Turtle Tote on: March 13, 2006 01:43:24 PM
It's been a while as I've been tending to my 3 yr old toddler...and I've been going through withdrawals!!!  I'm planning on making a matching wallet but here's my latest.  The outside fabric is almost like suit material but it's rather silky, thick in texture, and a dark grey.  The lining is a batik sea turtle print with aqua green and purple and blue.  I cut out a turtle and made my own applique for the front.  It is stiff so it stands up on it's own by using thick iron on interfacing.  Matching loops hold the plastic handles which are a brown combo color.  Oh, and it has a magnetic closure.  Please let me know what you think.

Dimension:
13" across the top left to right, 10" across the bottom left to right, 8" tall, 4" depth in the bottom, pockets are 9" across, 6 1/2" deep & 4 1/2" wide each.

28  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Discussion and Questions / Fastest & Simplest bag to make? on: January 18, 2006 04:07:07 AM
In your opinion and experience, which bag do you feel (on Craftster or other & please provide link) is the fastest and easiest to make?  I'm just curious and I'm sure others could benefit from this as well.

29  CRAFTY BUSINESS ADVICE / Selling Crafts on Etsy.com / Etsy shop - good or bad??? on: January 17, 2006 11:53:45 AM
If you have an Etsy shop, do you sell very much of what you post on there?  Is it mostly from shoppers already on there?  Or referrals from your signature or word of mouth?  I'm considering starting there until I get enough stock to get my full website up but I don't know if it would be a waste of time.  It's definitely a waste of time to try and sell them on Ebay.  What do you think of Etsy as an alternative?  Any feedback is appreciated.  Smiley  TIA.
30  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / LEO - My best bag ever!!!!!! on: January 13, 2006 01:20:13 PM
This is essentially the same design as the last bag I made (Girly Girl Pink Polka Dot on Purple) but I made it longer, used different fabric, added the magnetic clasp and made the handles differently.  Here's the bio on Leo (and yes I will be making more to sell if you are interested, tee hee):

Outer fabric is a lightweight denim, leopard print (see detail below) which I added black trim around the bottom.  Basic square bottom (like Jordy), with thick hard interfacing to make the bottom hard.  I also added silver metal legs to the bottom for support.  Small D-Rings attach the matching handles which is many layers folded over of the outer fabric.  The lining is different...it's a tan colored type of fabric similar to canvas you use to cover outside chairs.  I don't have a clue as to what it is called because I picked it up at Walmart last year sometime.  Inner pocket inside has matching fabric to outside.  I LOVE THIS BAG!!!  Cheesy  Do you think $40 is asking too much for this puppy?
