11  Cherries Jubilee in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by janetsjunk on: February 06, 2010 12:11:42 AM
I started off making a hobo bag but then I missed a few steps at the start and decided to wing it and call it my own.  The outer fabric is a denim weight with black/white stripes.  I handmade the cherries applique on front, magnetic closure, 2 pockets inside with matching outer fabric, lining is pink with little bubbles.  Handle matches both fabrics.  This is a gift for a friend...she saw one her friend bought and wanted one like it.  Although it's not as big as her friends, I think this one is better.  Smiley  Let me know what you think. The only thing that's wrong is I ran out of clear thread so to close the hole up in the lining, I used white thread and it shows.  LOL

12  Hawaiian Style in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by janetsjunk on: February 04, 2010 08:35:45 PM
Okay, maybe not Hawaiian style per say, but the print of florals reminds me of Hawaiian prints.  I made my own pattern for this one, used some denim type fabric with a floral print, edged it with lace and added a magnetic closure.  Inside is a blue fabric with white print and yellow pockets.  What you can't see is there is 2 large pockets on the outer edges and then on the inner part of the pocket, I made 2 pencil/pen spaces.  The handles are connected using wood napkin rings that I got at a consignment store I think.  Thanks for looking.

14  Brown Micro Suede look-a-like zip top purse in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by janetsjunk on: January 20, 2010 09:12:29 PM
I had so much fun making this purse!  Let me start with it's been forever and a day since I've sewn anything and my first attempt after taking a vacation of a couple years went wobbly.  This project however went very well.  I searched for ideas on what kind of purse to make but just couldn't find anything that sparked my interest.  So onto paper I went to sketch out an idea, draw a pattern and just do it.  The fabric I used I got years ago from Walmart I think.  It's a soft cotton but looks like micro suede with criss cross stitches on it.  I stitched over those to hold some thick felt to give it sturdiness.  Then the lining I think I got from the Goodwill.  There is two pockets inside and I used my new labels I bought from someone on Etsy.  The handles have roping inside that I got from a friend of mine at work, she was going to use it for necklaces but they ended up looking to gawdy and I acquired them.  They work very well with handles like this.  I just cut fabric to length, folded it over a couple times and placed the roping in the middle.  I then sewed up the edge...then sewed it onto the outer fabric.  Now I shopped around numerous tutorials for a zip top on a purse and couldn't find one that wasn't too long to figured out, didn't require me to disassemble the zipper or just didn't make sense.  So I tried my own ideas on a few small pouches...all of which didn't work.  Then I dreamed of a way (crazy, I know), and just did it tonight.  Luckily it worked!!

15  Hanky Halter in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by janetsjunk on: March 13, 2007 02:53:28 PM
This is the first piece of clothing I've made since right after high school.  I used some hankerchief fabric, some red Grosgrain ribbon for the halter strap & accents, and some black really soft material for the front.  The back is also made of the hanky material.  I got inspired by CraftyZary's tutorial (http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=36887.0) and winged it from there.  What do you think?

16  Stripes, flowers & a zipper...oh my!! in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by janetsjunk on: January 28, 2007 02:26:49 PM
I was finally able to try this tute out from Kaka and wow was it ever an easy bag to make and so cute to finish!!
http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=88223.0

My 4 yr old is modeling in the first picture.   Grin  I can't wait to make another one.  I used a canvas type material with stripes in fall/winter shades and used cotton tan/white check fabric for the lining.  There's a pocket inside that's the same material as the outside.  I also embellished it with these cute little flower appliques I got from Walmart last year in their clearance section...all I had to do was iron them on.  I attached the handles using some D-rings but the straps were a bit wider than I needed so they are a tad bit bulky.  I love how it turned out and can't wait to do another one.  Let me know what you think.  Smiley

17  Re: Tutorial: Tan Flowers handbag (pic heavy) in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by janetsjunk on: January 21, 2007 05:25:15 PM
Okay, tried my first one today and even though it didn't turn out good, I think I've got the idea.  Your tute was really good, I just need to learn to take my time and read the directions properly.  LOL  I ended up leaving the opening on the outer fabric (have made a ton of Jordy bags) and I just don't know why.  I also ended up in such a way with the zipper top that the other side of the zipper wouldn't allow me to sew the other side of the strap on so it turned into a wristlet.  I'm sure you can see the crooked seams but hey, it was my first try with a toddler that kept wanting my attention every 5 minutes.  Try, try again!!  Smiley

18  Blue Toile Purse in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by janetsjunk on: January 11, 2007 08:01:28 PM
Just finished this one, first time using the Toile print.  The material is a canvas type with a blue/cream Toile print.  Matching blue canvas/denimy material lining, silver D-Rings attaching strap.  I also added silver eyelets, one on each side, sewed blue grosgrain ribbon, snipped the ends into fancy ribbon tips and tied them in a bow.

19  My First Wallet in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by janetsjunk on: January 07, 2007 03:21:16 PM
I took an image in my head thinking about wallets I've purchased in the past, cut out the fabric and just started sewing.  I had a handful of goofs and did some pretty good cover ups.  I would have to say the only thing that I couldn't cover up was the extra waves of fabric on the middle part where the zipper change pouch is.

Wallet:
Velcro flap closure
Slots for credit cards
Clear sleeve for your ID
Zippered  pouch for change/$$

What do you think?  Any suggestions on how to make it where it's not so floppyish with the extra fabric in the middle?  Any comments or suggestions are welcome as I want to make more.  This one took me about an hour and a half to complete.

This matches the purse I just made and posted recently as well (see link).

20  Just like riding a bike in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by janetsjunk on: December 30, 2006 10:00:35 PM
It's been so long since I've had the chance to sew a purse, I had to say it's just like riding a bike...you never forget.   Grin  Anyhew, the only thing I don't like is that I forgot to add a closure to the top but since it's kind of a tote/purse, it really isn't that big of a deal.  I want to make a matching wallet as well.  The lining I got from Walmart a couple years ago and only bought like a yard of it but now I wish I had bought more.  It's a denim type material as is the outside too.  There was an extra piece I had cut so I appliqued it to the front and hand sewed matching mini beads on each color strip.  All in all I love the bag and can't wait to make more.  Dimensions are:

11" across top
15" across bottom
12.5" tall
Applique is 8" across x 4" down
Strap is 31" long
*Sorry, no measurements of depth, maybe 1.5 to 2"?

Comments welcome...thanks!
