21  Craft Swaps / ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED / Re: Christmas Stocking Swap Round 11 (Signup thru Oct. 20; send out Dec. 4) on: November 21, 2015 08:23:51 AM
I don't know about favorite, but the most traditional dish my family has is apricot jelled salad, also known affectionately as "Pimento Cheese Salad" because my nephew by marriage the first time he saw it asked, "What is that; Pimento Cheese?"
He's a native southern boy, not experienced with the midwestern Jello Salad traditions.

I have fallen behind on my crafting...it's been a busy couple of weeks. However, things have calmed down a bit and my goal is to finish things up (or at least get a major chunk of it done)

Too many Christmas/winter songs to even attempt a single one.
I have to listen to the Cajun holiday compilation from ages ago. My copy is on cassette tape (the real reason we cannot get rid of our cassette players) but I'm starting to recreate it electronically.
and I'm a sucker for big band / swing versions of anything. Brian Seltzer's Christmas albums and Big Bad Voodoo Daddy's are permanently in the rotation.

I have one item completed, plans/supplies for at least two other things, as well as other stuffers.

However, I have the cutest wrench in the crafting plans. We got a puppy for my husband's birthday and we can't leave her without supervision. So my originally planned crafting time is now is now "no no, don't chew on that. Leave the cat alone. Stop eating the big dog's food" time.

I am also in the allergic to pine category, so it's been artificial trees all my life.

I think I may have mentioned that my family tradition is to put up the tree on Christmas Eve, to be taken down on Epiphany. Absolutely no theming there.

Hubby's tradition is Thanksgiving weekend, artificial (apparently growing up they had one of those silver ones with multicolored lights aimed at it) and not really a theme, just whatever his mom feels like that year.

So, OUR tradition is becoming that we aim for the weekend after Thanksgiving, generally make it by the first weekend in December.  Except for the year that our cat was a kitten in which case it was up, but not in the proper place.  We had to put it in the Forbidden Room of Mystery (aka my husband's room of art & books) because she was always ending up in the tree at eye level.

No real theme, just whatever catches our eye or has been given to us.  This gives us an eclectic assortment that includes: Captain America, Aaron Rogers, Batman (multiple) Darth Vader, traditional Dutch inspired angels, Nutcrackers, Haunted Mansion Mickey, various other Disney ornaments and small "traditional" ornaments.

And we try to not let it stay up past Epiphany.  Or at least no later than the weekend after Epiphany.

progress? HAH I keep changing my mind.  Too many good ideas.  currently working on getting everything I need for the stocking itself & I plan on starting a medium this evening.

I'm compiling supplies and plan on a crafting marathon this weekend.

Obviously, checking in too.  Grin

Growing up we never traveled for Christmas - my dad was a pastor and always had Christmas Eve services and sometimes Christmas Day services as well. Christmas Day had a strict order too: Santa Presents, breakfast, get dressed, family gift exchange, light lunch, wait for Mom to wrap her stocking stuffers, Stockings rounded out with dinner of T-bone steaks.

Now my Christmas is non-stop; luckily all in town.
Starting on Christmas Eve we do my family's tradition of setting up and decorating the tree at my sister's house between church services (Christmas Eve service for the Presbyterians and Midnight service for the Episcopal)
Christmas Day morning we head over to my in-laws for breakfast/brunch and present/stocking madness (sometimes it's the week before, depending on when my sister-in-law and family can make it up from about 200  miles downstate) then home to feed/walk the dog and take a nap before heading back to my sister's for presents, dinner and stockings - in that order.

Then home to drop from exhaustion, just to get up the next morning and head to work.

I have officially started crafting!

Best gift as an adult might just be the heavy bag my husband got me last year. I may not use it as often as I should, but it's always good to have it when I am working through stress from work.

I wasn't. Sure the pm sent. Happy to see me on the list. Smiley

Growing up stockings were always an afternoon/evening event. Mom always used the remnants of the package wrappings for stocking stuffed wrapping.
Current traditions are, on my side of the family-we open stockings after dinner and my sister always puts pencils in, wrapped. On DH side his mom is the stocking filler and usually she gets impatient and hands them around if we end up waiting on family members.
For our house, we do stockings she. We can fit it in between running around from location to location.

I totally get the feeling guilty about not making anything for myself.  I really need a new day to day purse and I have a pattern floating around in my head that I need to get cracking on.

But I don't have a super weekend in my hometown to kick me into gear to make a perfect weekender.

I know Actors of Louisville well, as I went to YPAS and watched many a performance there.  You must be a great teacher to have 4 students there.  Hope your weekend is fabulous!
29  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / The Swap Gallery / Re: Fill a "Coffee" Mug Swap - Gallery on: February 22, 2015 08:47:06 AM
So, I received a while ago but couldn't find the camera charger.  My DH had actually put it where it belonged and produced it for me. Cheesy

monkeygirl sent me lovely goodies from New Zealand!  I was very excited.  I also got her very first Mug Rug.

The whole package:

Monkeygirl spoiled me with New Zealand goodies as well as the crafted ones.

Crafted Goodies Specifically:
The mug rug

The other side with the New Zealand specific Earl Grey.

The snack envelope with Lumpies... which I loved.  I'm a sucker for gummy type candies.

I don't have an individual picture of the hoop, but I see it everyday as it is temporarily hanging over my coffee maker from the cabinet handle.  It will eventually go in the kitchen permanently.

Thanks!

I know I've received a while ago and not posted pictures.
My excuse? We've misplaced the camera charger.  I'll get some up as soon as I can power the camera (no later than this weekend.)

Sorry Embarrassed
