1  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Party Planning / Friday the 13th Birthday! i need help on: September 19, 2006 08:27:55 AM
i'm turning 23 on firday the 13th, and i've decided to have a party.  since it's friday the 13th, i decided that a themed party would be fun.

my theme is a funeral.  i've made funeral cards for the invitations. i'm going to make my counter look like a casket with a cloth draped over it, and place the foods there.  the foods should include caramel apples, fondue smores, rum cake, mulled wine, cider served in a hollowed pumpkin, veggies, and probably some pretzels.

we're going to have a oiuga session and tons of the village (if you don't know the village, it's a role playing game where everyone is assigned a character and you hunt for the wolf-takes 5-20 minutes per game) i'm also thinking about possibly making it a murder mystery party.

does anybody have any suggestions for me?  i'm trying to limit the party to as close to 13 people as i can, because i simply cannot afford all of my friends.  so it should be a smaller party.  and of course i'll put spider webs and stuff like that...

what does everyone think?

5  FIBER ARTS / Weaving: Completed Projects / first project! a hideous blanket! on: February 11, 2006 02:17:54 PM
ok, so this was my first big project on the loom (before this, i only made a few 2 inch samples)

so i'm pretty proud of myself.

i still need to work in my ends, and knot the fringe a little bit more, but i love it, and the pattern is reversible!

here's a shot of the pattern, it's folded so you can see both sides.  the pattern was called "gothic cross"

what do you think?
6  CROCHET / Crochet: Completed Projects / first crochet! that ol' star blanket on: February 11, 2006 02:14:34 PM
i started making this blanket months ago, and then forgot about it....

i originally saw it here....  http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=27667.0
but the pattern is from here...  http://www.angelfire.com/va3/heartfeltangels/littlestarafghan.html

so i finally finished it.  it's a little (ok, a lot) wonky right now, i have to wash and block it still... also, it's super soft cause it's redheart baby soft...  and, it's super wonky because i kept gradually switching to larger hooks as i got farther out (probably not the best idea)  but here it is!

and i still don't know how to do a double chain!

and here's a shot of the detail... ignore that one really big hole....this was my first time crocheting
7  COOKING / Recipes and Cooking Tips / possible bread machine recipe? i need help... on: February 11, 2006 01:33:13 PM
i have a bread machine that i love, but do not use nearly enough....i also have a large amount of granny apples (because my mom bought a huge bag of apples at sam's club, and then dumped half of them on me and my apartment)

now, i haven't used my bread machine enough to fully understand it's complete workings, so i'm hesitant to make my own recipe...but i would love to find a recipe for a bread or cake that would use the apples...

so, does anyone have a delicious recipe?  i'm willing to sauce the apples and then use them....but how does that really work in a bread machine?

thanks for any help you can give me...

Not Limited to a certain number of people?

Non-U.S. participants allowed? Yes

All ages allowed? Or 18+? ALL AGES are fine, but participants should be aware that some songs may contain strong language, etc.  The organizer will do her best, but she cannot screen every song.

Organizer is aware of current list of "suspended traders"
list and will not allow those members to participate: YES

Organizer meets the 4 conditions for swapping and will make sure that every participant meets these conditions: YES

Details of swap:
This is a SECRET CD SWAP, where member will swap crafty cd's with an anonymous partner.  The CD should contain 5 songs which "describe a moment in their life, a secret, a memory, etc. " The anonymity of this swap allows these songs to be as personal as the swapper will allow, which should lead to some interesting choices.  Basically, it's a 5 song diary.  Additional songs are encouraged, but not required.

The cd/case should be decorated, or a small craft can be included to inhance the songs.

so, to reiterate, that's 5 songs with all the  bells and whistles and rickita rackita of a true craftster swap
...

9  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / ugly shirt! on: May 30, 2005 09:03:35 PM
i went to the mall with a friend two days ago and she wanted to buy a really ugly top, and i said "i could make that.  it would be way easy"  well when i woke up yesterday, i made it!

the picture's really orangey- the shirt is hot pink with white polka dots.   buttons on the side, elastic across the top, and the back opens in a V shape.   i also didn't hem the bottom yet.  but i'm bored, so i'm going to post!

oh geeze, my room is such a total mess!
10  QUILTING / Quilting: Discussion and Questions / i need a batting elitist on: May 25, 2005 10:14:18 PM
i'm slowly working on mysecond quilt...   for my first one, i used medium loft  polyester batting  and it's ok, but it's very thin, and i think i want something warmer for this quilt.  i understand that if i want it warmer, i should probably just use two layers of batting, but my realy question is this:

what are the differences between cotton and polyester batting?
yeah, i know that cotton will shrink a little and can give you that puckered look, but is one warmer than the other?  does one get flatter than the other?  should i bother to spend the extra $7 (i'm cheap)  to get the cotton just so that i can say it's cotton batting?  please help
