1  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Party Planning / Re: Friday the 13th Birthday! i need help on: September 20, 2006 09:09:08 AM

2  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Party Planning / Friday the 13th Birthday! i need help on: September 19, 2006 08:27:55 AM
i'm turning 23 on firday the 13th, and i've decided to have a party.  since it's friday the 13th, i decided that a themed party would be fun.

my theme is a funeral.  i've made funeral cards for the invitations. i'm going to make my counter look like a casket with a cloth draped over it, and place the foods there.  the foods should include caramel apples, fondue smores, rum cake, mulled wine, cider served in a hollowed pumpkin, veggies, and probably some pretzels.

we're going to have a oiuga session and tons of the village (if you don't know the village, it's a role playing game where everyone is assigned a character and you hunt for the wolf-takes 5-20 minutes per game) i'm also thinking about possibly making it a murder mystery party.

does anybody have any suggestions for me?  i'm trying to limit the party to as close to 13 people as i can, because i simply cannot afford all of my friends.  so it should be a smaller party.  and of course i'll put spider webs and stuff like that...

what does everyone think?

i am doing something similar for my birthday on friday the 13th of october.   i am planning on serving mulled wine, and cider in a hallowed out pumpkin instead of a punch bowl, candy apples, fondue smores... basically foods that are reminiscent of fall either in taste (cinnamon, caramel, etc) or color.

my party is going to be a funeral theme- i'm making prayer cards for the invitations and asking everyone to wear mourning clothes.

i hope some of this helps you.   the whole idea is new to me too, so i'm actually going to post some questions of my own

Hope this isn't too off-topic, but I saw that Debbie Harry made an appearance on many CDs here, so I thought I'd post - I got to see Blondie in concert last night. And it was amazing. I've long considered Debbie one of my heroes, and she did not disappoint. She is the Grand High Priestess of Cool, and we are just her lowly disciples Wink.

OK, sorry about the digression - I just had the spread the Debbie love!

so true!  i've had the pleasure of seeing blondie in concert TWICE now...  blondie was actually my first concert ever...it was the "no exit" tour... ah, memories...  but i don't think it's off topic... because, although her band is all male, she is an amazing voice and a very talented lady, so that deserves to be mentioned in this thread

wow, i posted on here almost a year ago... and i'm posting again now.. who know this thread would last through two Westby Proms (the art majors fundraising prom).  last year i used a burday pattern, this year, it's Butterick Retro '57, so that's Butterick B4512

hopefully i'll be able to finish the dress in the next two weeks...  cross your fingers for me!

and here it is!  the prom was on cinco de mayo and we had Matt & Kim play!  if you don't know them, you need to!

and these are my dates...  unfortunately, my boyfriend was the one taking the pictures for the prom, and i didn't get one with him... but that's ok, cause my dates are cuter!

oh, and it was a plus size pattern, but i'm a size 10...so i had to cut it down to size...only the top was too long for me, so i got some funny bunching.  and i added the bow, it's actually sewn on... i hope someone took a pic of my bum, cause it's super cute! (the bow, not the bum)
