A friend of mine knows I like to sew...a lot! She asked me if I'd be up for making a Sally dress for her daughter for Halloween since this particular costume doesn't come in toddler size.  I GLADLY accepted her challenge! 

Here's the finished product! My friend made the tights & arm covers with white tights & black fabric paint.


To make the dress I cut a basic A-line dress out of flannel using the kids measurements. I then used plain cotton to cut out the color blocks that I needed to applique on to the dress itself.

This is after I had all my shapes cut out with fusible webbing between the fabrics. I ironed them together before applique stitching them on with invisible thread.

After I had sewn the appliques onto the flannel I used fabric paint to add fabric patterns. I let the paint dry for 2 days before I sewed the dress together.

Even before I was ever pregnant I had always said I wanted to dress our family up as Aqua Teen Hunger Force for Halloween. I figured I'd better do it this year because I probably wont be able to decide what my son will be next year.
I had no problem finding a Frylock & Master Shake costume for my husband and I online (I wasn't about to make 4 costumes this year, I also made a toddler size Sally dress for a friends daughter). I knew I would have to make a Meatwad costume for my son so I just used a pattern for a pumpkin costume to get the basic shape. For the eyes & mouth I just bought 1 sheet of white craft felt & 2 sheets of black & cut them out freehand. I looked at one of our DVD covers to get the shapes right. It was really quite easy. The black outlines behind the eyes are actually larger than the whites of the eyes. They're sewn together at the edge of the white part with an applique stitch. I can provide a close up photo if anyone needs it

Getting a decent family photo was difficult and my hair ended up a mess because I forgot a hair tie...oopsie!
