Hello! This is my 1st post to Craftster, although I have been lurking for months.

I first started crocheting about 2 years ago, and have made numerous hats, purses, and other wearable items.

This is my 1st handmade toy, I made it with my son's upcoming 5th birthday in mind, he LOVES cop cars (I ended up giving it to him early though). He took it to a very hot carnival, slept with it, & lugged it around everywhere for over a day before I took any pictures, so now Cop Car Buddy is a bit fuzzy.

I don't know if this would be considered an Amigurumi or not, he was very simple to make!

Excuse the weird circles on my boy's face... he was moving & that's how the picture turned out.


Pattern:

For the body I made sort of a "pill" shape
I made 2 kind of long hats & attached them (stuffing them before finishing off)
The white part of the body is slimmer than the blue because I used a lighter weight (4ply yarn), and the blue is a thick & chunky yarn

I used an H hook, but this pattern is pretty versatile, you could use different hooks for different sized cars
You could also just make the car 1 solid color if you wish

For 1st half of body (hood end):
I use a magic loop, (you can use a ch3 & sl st to the 1st ch if you prefer), ch1, then

work in rounds, or sl st at the end of each row & ch 1 if you think you will lose count

In BLUE
r1: 6 sc in center of your magic loop or ch3 loop (6)
r2: 2 sc in ea st (12)
r3: 1sc in 1st st, 2sc in 2nd st, continue around (18)
r4: 1sc in 1st st, 1sc in 2nd st, 2sc in 3rd st, continue around (24)
r5: 1sc in 1st st, 1sc in 2nd st, 1sc in 3rd st, 2sc in 4th st, continue around (30)
r6-11 1sc in ea st around
when finishing color, skip 1 sc, sl st & secure yarn

in white
sc in ea st around for 5 rows, secure yarn

For 2nd half of body (trunk end) same as above, just fewer blue rows:
In BLUE
r1: 6 sc in center of your magic loop or ch3 loop (6)
r2: 2 sc in ea st (12)
r3: 1sc in 1st st, 2sc in 2nd st, continue around (18)
r4: 1sc in 1st st, 1sc in 2nd st, 2sc in 3rd st, continue around (24)
r5: 1sc in 1st st, 1sc in 2nd st, 1sc in 3rd st, 2sc in 4th st, continue around (30)
r6-7 1sc in ea st around, secure yarn at end

in white
sc in ea st around for 5 rows, secure yarn

Take these 2 pieces & sew them together, stuffing with polyfill, you will now have what looks like a happy little blue & white pill, exept mine was more bean shaped due to my white yarn being a thinner ply;)

In Blue

r6-9: 1sc in ea st around, at end skip 1 st, sl st & secure yarn

Add safety eyes now if you wish.
sew to top of finished body, I used yarn & a large tapestry needle, stuffing as I went.

r6: sc2tog (sc dec) all the way around (9)
r7: sc2tog (sc dec) all the way around, leave about a 10" tail. There will be a small opening left, stuff it with polyfill, then use tail & tapestry needle to attach the wheel to the car, just estimate where it would look best

Police Siren (I did this by just making a rectangle with 3 colors, and rolling it up)

in red:
r1: ch8, sc in 2nd ch from hook (6)
r2-4: sc in ea st across, ch 1 & turn
in white:
repeat the sc for 4 rows
in blue:
repeat the sc for 4 rows

Finishing touches, I used my tapestry needle & used the embroidery back stitch for the door handles /window outlines, I am pretty horrible with embroidery so you might be able to do a much better job!
