1  My First Wookie in Crochet: Completed Projects by Shridrea on: July 16, 2010 01:11:59 PM
This is my first time crocheting anything from just my mind. I even wrote down the pattern. I'd like some feedback, if you make him.   Cheesy

Chewie is about 7 inches tall, made out of insanely hairy yarn, and some imagination. Here is a tutorial for how I put him together.

You'll need:

    * one skein of Sensations Beautiful Yarn (found a JoAnn Fabrics) in brown
    * 5 mm crochet hook
    * a small amount of black or darker brown yarn
    * a little bit of white yarn
    * Safety eyes
    * optional stitch holder to hold your place

Head and body
Start with a magic circle of 6 sc.
Rnd 1: 2 sc in each sc (12)
Rnd 2: *1 sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc* around (18 )
Rnd 3: sc in each sc (18 )
Rnd 4 - 6: sc in each sc (18 )
Rnd 7: * sc in next two sc, dec in next sc* around (12)
Rnd 8: sc in each sc (12)
Add safety eyes and stuff the head here
Rnd 9: * sc in next sc, dec in next sc* around (8 )
Rnd 10: sc in each sc (8 )
Rnd 11: * sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc* around (12)
Rnd 12: *2 sc in each sc * around (24)
Rnd 13 19: *sc in each sc * around (24)
Rnd 20: dec around (12)
Rnd 21: dec around (6)
Stuff body here
Rnd 22: dec around (3)
Stitch close, fasten off

Legs (make 2)
Start with a magic circle of 4 sc
Rnd 1: * 2sc in each sc* around (8 )
Rnd 2 7: *sc in each sc * around (8 )
Stuff
Rnd 8: ch 1, then sc across top to close. Fasten off and leave long tail for sewing to the body

Arms (make 2)
Start with a magic circle of 3 sc
Rnd 1: * 2sc in each sc* around (6)
Rnd 2 7: *sc in each sc * around (6)
Rnd 8: ch 1, then sc across top to close. Fasten off and leave long tail for sewing to the body

Satchel and belt
Belt: Work a foundation chain about 7 inches long, then double crochet back to beginning.
Weave in a silver or white thread to make the bars.

Satchel:
Chain 8, then sc in second chain from the hook, work across.
Work as many rows as you want half the size, then attach the belt.
If you wanted to, you could probably make this an opening satchel, but I chose not to.

I made him hairier by brushing him gently with a cat brush. I don't know if a toothbrush would work or not. Try and see what you come up with!

Happy crocheting!
