1  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Purple Condom Pencil Skirt on: December 12, 2008 12:18:34 AM
My college hosts a condom fashion show each year for World AIDS day and the student group Im in decided to participate, so low and behold the condom skirt was born. I thought a pencil skirt would be easy compared to some of the condom fashion floating around out there (doubt it-google condom fashion for yourself) but this was crazy time consuming.

540 purple condoms (yes, provided) and a reconed skirt later and I was on the runway!

I lost count of how many hours it took me to hand sew these condoms, 10? 15?...All I know is my GPA will be feeling the pain.

Here is a somewhat close-up shot and then a picture of me on the runway, there is also a link to where this second picture came from and pictures from the rest of the event, it was pretty amazing.

Its hard to tell in either photo but the skirt should ride lower and actually is high waisted, but the combination of the fact that I kept on hiking the skirt up all night since it was so heavy and kept falling and that my shirt was not the best did not do the skirt justice, oh well.

Here's another link for a photo of my skirt on flickr and other shots from the event:

2  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / Help, I need ideas for a crafty workshop! on: February 04, 2006 11:16:34 PM
Hello all,

I need help!  My mother, who directs a sexual assault support agency, knows too many people and is involved in too many things. Because of this she knows the woman who is putting on this big women's empowerment conference at the local university.  The woman was disappointed that there weren't any really fun hands-on workshops.  So my mom half-committed me to doing a crafty workshop.  But I have no clue what to do!  It needs to somehow tie into the conference's theme.  Which is basically anything to do with women's issues.  But what should I do?  It needs to be relatively cheap, considering I would be doing it for free.  And take less than two hours.

Any ideas?

so far I've got nothing good, my friend suggested buying old used Barbie's and covering them in plaster or something to make real woman proportioned  Barbie's, but that seems to messy.  I would love to do a stenciling workshop, making stencils that counter those ridiculous and demeaning shirts in the mall: "damsel in distress, seeking prince for rescue", but that would cost too much to buy shirts.  so if anyone could brainstorm a little, I would greatly appreciate it.
