1  Re: Doctor Who Craftalong 2012 in Craftalongs by Samantha_McKay on: February 19, 2012 08:34:14 PM
My gaming dice need a new home and I had a little magnetic closure cardboard box in my craft stash. So what better place to hide things than in Rivers diary?

Its still somewhat of a work in progress. I havent finished the paint on it or sealing it. But Im fairly happy with it. Its all cardboard and scrapbook paper put together with hot glue and colored with cheap acrylic paints. Its 3x4 inches.

I think I might add some pages to it once it dries.

After seeing an image on tumblr, my 6 year old son wanted Doctor Who Valentines to take to school for his class party.
So we snagged the image from here http://areyoumarriedriver.tumblr.com/post/17569775787/the-kids-valentines
and recolored it and changed some text.

We printed them on cardstock that was white on one side and tardis blue on the other. And them of course added a sweetie to each one.

I'm now even more in love with my child, if that was possible lol.

3  Freeze Paper Tardis Hoodie in Stenciling: Completed Projects by Samantha_McKay on: December 18, 2011 05:25:25 AM
I ordered my brother a sonic screwdriver set for Christmas and decided that he needed something to go with it.
I've seen several really nice designs online but didn't see a stencil that was quite right, so I sketched out a stencil based off of a bunch of other stencils I found online and came up with this one. The wording is small and done freehand so it didn't turn out that great. However, overall I am pretty happy with the result here.

Forgive the cruddy cell phone pics, one of my kids broke my camera Sad

4  Re: Game of Thrones (Song of Fire and Ice) swap? in New Swap Theme Ideas by Samantha_McKay on: August 05, 2011 02:14:38 PM
I thought that pic was Jason! lol
While this swap isn't my thing I had to click and figure out what it was because the thumbnail image was him. I once hit him with my double stroller turning a corner and then to my absolute horror my son tripped him as he was running past. The fact that I yelled my son's name made it worse lol. His name is Ronan, which is the same name as Jason's character from Atlantis.
But he was really lovely and spent some time chatting with me and took several pictures with us.

5  Re: Decked Out for Deathly Hallows Part II GALLERY! in The Swap Gallery by Samantha_McKay on: July 15, 2011 11:45:40 PM
I hope that nobody minds if I post this here as well. It wasn't part of the swap, I made it for myself. But it turned out so well I had to share.

I didn't wear this to the midnight show because I was dressed up as Bellatrix in my overly complicated corseted ensemble with 800 feet of awesome hair that wasn't mine, figured I get some more use out of it since I bough it solely for a convention lol. But I did wear this to the second showing I went to today with friends.

It's a freezer paper stencil painted with black acrylic paint. I dabbed the paint on that way to match it to the sleeves. It looks better in person.

I received an amazing swap package from Whats_Her_Name  today.  And let me tell you! Anyone who gets her for a partner in future swaps is super lucky! Shes got skillz!
Sorry for the pic overload.

A lovely Pair of S.P.E.W. socks. Though I'm not so sure I'd free a house elf. With small children in the house they are needed lol. (noticed the sticker after I took the pic)
These will be getting lots of use when I sit at my desk because I have an a/c vent next to my feet. Also on trips home to Alaska.

An AMAZING! purse to help me blend in with the Muggles while on the run. That was brilliant because my current dragon hide bag is a dead give away for a Witch. I promptly put everything I normally carry with me inside and it all fits nicely. So no worries about not being able to add an extension charm.

and the inside

Next up was a stationary set. I don't know if I can bring myself to write on these lol. They are awesome!
Note cards (with envelopes)

Notebook with my real name on it Smiley  I forgot to take pics of the inside, but the paper is lined with a faded image that matches the cover.

And some lovely Chocolate Frogs. Made by Elves with only the best Chocolate lol. I adored these and shared with a friend of mine this evening while watching the movie in 3D. They came in handy because I'm pretty sure we were surrounded by Dementors since we were feeling pretty sad with all the deaths.

All together now...

Thanks for the awesome swap!

7  Re: Harry Potter Dotee Swap - GALLERY Send out Friday July 8 in The Swap Gallery by Samantha_McKay on: July 03, 2011 12:30:08 PM
I have received my first Dotee from Pollyprissypants and I am in love. She has sent a lovely little frowny faced Snape! He's been hanging out on my computer desk glaring at me Smiley

Sorry that the body color is washed out, he's rather sallow skinned lol.

8  Fun with sugar in CHALLENGE 63 ENTRIES by Samantha_McKay on: June 08, 2011 08:51:09 PM
Fun with sugar! Special FX makeup. Broken glass from explosion embedded in my "victim's" face.

Broken glass shards and bloodwork all made with a combination of sugar, corn syrup, butterscotch syrup, chocolate syrup, food dyes and gelatin. Plus a little imagination and no budget lol.

9  First Costume Hat Ever! in Costumes: Completed Projects by Samantha_McKay on: May 10, 2011 09:35:46 AM
So I'm really not the best seamstress, but a couple of weeks ago I decided to try my hand at making a witches hat for a Harry Potter convention I was going to be at.
This is made with leftover home decorating fabrics that I recovered some chairs with, heavy interfacing and a little floral wire from the dollar store.
And like everything else I do, did I use a pattern from the store? Heck no! I made it up! I really should learn to use a real pattern one day lol.

My son makes the best model.

10  Re: Decked Out for Deathly Hallows Part II (Signups 5/5-5/15; Sendouts 7/1) in ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED by Samantha_McKay on: May 09, 2011 09:59:15 PM
I hadn't even heard of WORCK before I moved to Virginia two years ago. I joined the local HP meetup group and went to a couple of shows, met a few of the bands and became friends with a few of them.

We seriously have nothing like it in Alaska where I am from, or we didn't back when I lived there. I was part of other similar things with sci-fi and medieval themes though.

I highly suggest to those who don't have local groups to make their own. I would have assumed it would be a lot of kids in a group like it, but our group is mostly adults and only a few of us have kids (I think in my group mine are the youngest)

Our organizer plans about 2 meetups a month (we have a huge group so we get 5-12 people for each event) and then a few major meet ups a year. So we have a variety of things we relate to HP to make it about more than just a set of books.

We do the movies together, have fan-fic meets, go to museums, cavern tours, valentines tea parties (we are doing a Jane Austen one in July), and we celebrate Harry's birthday every year & play Quidditch, do a Halloween Party, etc. I even hosted a craft meet for my group recently for making Freezer paper stenciled stuff.

Here is a pic of the cake I baked Harry's birthday last year. I have no idea how to top it this year. I might get Lazy and make the pink cake from HP:SS with Happee Birthday Harry on it.

This took up the whole table, never again lol. The gold was done with edible gold paint on the cake and the snitch cupcakes.

And now I will totally shut up because I keep making huge posts. I think my obsession is showing. Thank god you can't see my potions lab house to know how far off the deep end I really am lol.
