1  White "paper-bag" skirt! in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by snow_whisper on: October 26, 2012 10:29:16 AM
This has got to be my most favorite thing I've ever sewn.

I used this pattern tutorial to make the pattern - http://www.adventuresindressmaking.com/2010/07/long-awaited-paper-bag-waist-skirt.html#.UIrH0sXLTG8 - not only was it easy to follow, the results were fabulous. All of Adventures in Dressmaking is worth a read-through, from tutorials to inspiration

Here is the skirt! There's pleating in the front and back, and belt loops (one in the back and two in front), and an invisible zipper along the left side.

Comments appreciated!

2  Another 99 cent dress pattern in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by snow_whisper on: October 26, 2012 10:25:37 AM
This one has gathered sleeves - my first time ever doing sleeves! This one was less work than the other 99 cent pattern I posted about, but I love them both equally.

3  Fun, easy dress with pockets and piping! in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by snow_whisper on: October 26, 2012 10:22:37 AM
Over the summer, I found a couple of 99 cent patterns at Wal-Mart in the States. Here is my first attempt!
The pattern called for the binding to be turned inward, but I thought that having it facing out added to the overall appearance. The dress isn't lined or anything, it's very simple. There's some piping in the top of the dress and the back, but I have no pictures of the back. This dress was so easy and I would make dozens of these if I had the time!

4  Summer Dress - In the Wintertime??? in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by snow_whisper on: January 20, 2012 05:37:47 PM
I made this a little while ago over winter break and I thought I'd share it! I used Simplicity Pattern 3823. It's fully lined, eyelet fabric, and there's light boning along the back. A zipper down the side and a halter-top tie closes it up. There's several pleats at the front as well as at the back.

I'd appreciate any critiques or criticisms Smiley Also, if anyone has tips for getting the zipper to lie a bit flatter along the side, that would be much appreciated as well.

5  Doctor Who TARDIS Poodle Skirt! in Halloween Costumes by snow_whisper on: October 31, 2011 04:16:23 PM
So this year for Halloween, I decided to try my own spin on the Doctor's beloved time machine, the TARDIS. I used a Simplicity poodle skirt pattern and constructed the TARDIS appliqué out of felt myself. Using my teacher's embroidery machine, I stitched "Police Box," "Pull to Open," and the infamous sound of the TARDIS, "Vworp," onto the felt.

Here is the skirt in its entirety! It's super poofy Smiley

The crinoline underskirt! I shortened the original pattern, so otherwise there would be three rows of crinoline, but this gave me just the right amount of poof.

An up-close view of the TARDIS appliqué. I know the actual one has four blocks, but I had to do three because otherwise the proportions would have been a bit off. This was really fun to make!

The first "Vworp" stitched above the rickrack Smiley

Second vworp!

And a slightly blurry picture of the third vworp!
I also made a fez for my friend who is dressing up as the Eleventh Doctor but sadly, no pictures yet Smiley

6  National Cupcake Day - Dec. 15 in CHALLENGE 57 ENTRIES by snow_whisper on: December 05, 2010 01:39:45 PM
This is my first entry into a Craftster competition so I'm super excited. I had a lot of fun with this challenge, especially when I was researching obscure holidays

Who doesn't love cupcakes? And what better way to celebrate National Cupcake Day than by baking some! Using the square box template, I constructed three boxes to hold cupcake recipes. I went a little glitter-glue crazy, and went through about five or so bottles throughout the crafting process  Smiley

There are three categories of cupcakes - Cake-to-Cupcake, Chocolate, and Fruit and Veggie.

My goal was to make the bottoms of the boxes look like little paper cupcake trays.

And here are some of the recipes! Don't they sound delicious?

I found the recipes on www.all-about-cupcakes.com
Can't wait to try out some of the recipes on December 15th!

7  TMNT Pillow in Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General by snow_whisper on: June 15, 2010 07:29:02 PM
Some background information: my friend LOVE Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and also pronounces the words "milk" and "pillow" with E's instead of I's. So, naturally, I decided to make her a TMNT "Pellow." I used four random squares of leftover TMNT fabric sewn together, a small patch of blue fabric, and I cut out letters from some denim I had lying around. My friend absolutely loves it, despite its small size. What do you all think?

Up-close on the letters. I left the edges raw on the letters, which I think works really well.

8  Dress for my niece in Clothing for Kids: Completed Projects by snow_whisper on: June 14, 2010 02:38:03 PM
I used New Look 6613 and made dress A. It's my niece's "Yay! You're a big sister now!" present. It's a really easy pattern, even for me as a beginner.

Front.

Back.

What do you guys think?
