291  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Re: Family Swap? on: September 16, 2010 05:23:56 PM
I think it'd be a great swap.  I, too, though, wouldn't be able to participate until closer to the holidays...I'm in a swap now and I've got a million work/school things going, too.

293  CROCHET / Crochet: Completed Projects / Teeny Tiny Butterflies -- with free pattern link! [img heavy] on: September 15, 2010 08:05:00 PM
These butterflies are the cutest things, and they are so quick to make  Grin

They're crocheted with embroidery floss and a D hook.  I found the pattern on this blog, and you can make other sizes, too: http://littlebirdiesecrets.blogspot.com/2010/06/how-to-crochet-butterfly.html

So far I've only put them on bobby pins, but I'm thinking snap clips or other hair accessories would work better.  Smiley
294  Craft Swaps / ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED / Re: Givers and Needers Round 8 (Signups Sept. 6-20, Givers send Oct. 4) on: September 13, 2010 09:02:28 PM
I can't wait to get partners Smiley  I am so grateful to whoever sends me anything...

I could really use fabric and sewing supplies of pretty much any kind -- thread, bobbins, zippers, snaps, buttons, needles, etc.  I'm just learning to sew on my first full-sized machine and I have almost nothing to practice with.

I could also use some yarn, but this need isn't as desperate.  Natural fibers would be beyond awesome.  And I don't *need* them, but if anyone is destashing scrapbooking papers, stamps, and stickers I'd totally take them off your hands  Tongue

I signed up to be a needer.  I'd love to find a new home for the scrapbooking stuff I will never use, but unfortunately it's at home and I'm away at school Sad  Maybe after Thanksgiving I can give in a new round!

I'm so excited, I love swaps Cheesy
296  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing in General: Discussion and Questions / Re: What to do with this fabric? (add yours!) on: September 07, 2010 08:50:09 PM
I like the idea of the fabric bowl Smiley  Very similar to rag rugs.  I'm not sure yet what to do, but I appreciate the input!
297  CRAFTING FOR GOOD AND NOT EVIL / Crafty Charitable/Social Causes / Re: Joann's Craft For A Cause on: September 07, 2010 08:31:10 PM
A lot of shelters accept blankets and quilts, especially in areas with colder winters.  I'm not sure about where to donate clothes directly except to Goodwill or the Salvation Army.

Ok, hopefully, 3rd time uploading is a charm...

Some great bookmarks from rubies-pearls

Elastic beaded bookmarks

An awesome mini-notebook, sharpies, and a pretty notecard

And best of all, a reusable fabric journal cover!  The inside is a chocolatey-brown fabric with little pockets Cheesy

Thanks so much!  It made my day Smiley

299  CROCHET / Crochet: Discussion and Questions / Re: Hoarding my yarn stash has to stop! on: September 07, 2010 02:48:39 PM
... Amateurs.   Grin

During the last move, out of curiosity, we took my stash of yarn to a local-ish large animal hospital (think cows and horses) and put it on the scale. At that point it weighed over 500 pounds. It's grown since then.

In my defense: most of it is left from when I had a weaving supply shop. Over 350 lbs. is on cones for weaving, but has been used for everything else under the sun as well.

Wow.   Shocked I think you've pretty much got us all beat.

I got my package from rubies-pearls today just 15 minutes before the mail room on campus closed.  I love it!  a great combination of writer-y and crafty.  I am at work now Tongue but will post pictures as soon as I get off this evening!
