21  Re: Ongoing Rag Rug Craftalong--Make any rug you like! in Craftalongs by Mrs. Awesome_Pants on: October 25, 2010 11:37:56 PM
Kittymom13, those colors are so pretty!  I love the blue, especially Smiley

Here's my own first attempt at a rug.  I actually really like crocheting in the round, LOL, even though I botched the decreases a bit because the gaps are too big.

When I go home for Thanksgiving break I'm going to make a trip to the Goodwill or a nearby thrift store so I can pick up more sheets/old fabric to finish this and get started on another one, rectangular this time.

I received some great pillowcases from SMLounsbury a few days ago!  Sorry for the delay in posting.  I just love them.

One simple one in bright fabric, two handpainted ones.  Kitties and owls!

And a bit of scrap fabric <3

Thanks so much!

24  Re: Givers and Needers Round 8 Gallery in The Swap Gallery by Mrs. Awesome_Pants on: October 01, 2010 09:56:14 AM
Okay, guys, I am one of Spotnik's five packages, and I just received about twenty minutes ago.

I am absolutely floored.  Such amazing generosity.  I've had a really horrendous week what with school, a sucky job, some issues with my meds...basically I just have been in a very "woe is I" attitude and your package literally made me want to cry.  Such beautiful stuff, and so much of it.

On to pictures!  (You'll have to ignore my room, I don't clean haha)

First off, this AMAZING piece of brocade, draped over my twin bed for size comparison.

I couldn't get a decent close-up, but it's got cocks and dragons on it and it's wonderful.

Then, what I think is flannel.  Correct me if I'm wrong, still learning my fabric types.

It's so cute!

Then some one-sided velvety stuff (?)

And then...THIS!  It's HUGE!

It could easily stretch all the way across my dorm room.  I draped it over my head and it fell down in a huge pile in front of and behind me.  I'm 5'3", so it's more than ten feet long.  I've never had a fabric piece that large before, and of something so beautiful!

There were two(!) more pieces, one smaller section of purple cotton that I think will make a cute purse/wallet, and an even larger chunk of a heavier, silky beige something with blue pinstripes.  I'd give you pics, but my camera batteries died and I was too excited to wait to post.

THANK YOU SO MUCH SPOTNIK!  I am over the moon.

25  SUPER bright face scrubbies! w/ PATTERN in Crochet: Completed Projects by Mrs. Awesome_Pants on: September 27, 2010 03:58:52 PM
I bought some of this great cotton yarn (Creme de la Creme, "popsicle bright") and I love it.  I've been making a zillion of these little scrubbies in different sizes and I want to keep them all for myself.  I love crocheted cotton scrubbies in general and the color makes me happy.

One of the best things about these babies is how super simple and quick they are to make.

Begin with an adjustable ring, sc 6 into ring.  Join with a sl st to form a circle and pull the loop tight.

Ch 3, 2dc in each st around.  Sl st closed.

Ch 2, 2hdc in each st around.  Sl st closed.

Ch 2, 2 hdc in next 22 sts.  1 hdc in next two sts.  Sl st closed.  Tie off.

Voila!  You now have a super awesome face scrubby.

26  Teeny Tiny Butterflies -- with free pattern link! [img heavy] in Crochet: Completed Projects by Mrs. Awesome_Pants on: September 15, 2010 08:05:00 PM
These butterflies are the cutest things, and they are so quick to make  Grin

They're crocheted with embroidery floss and a D hook.  I found the pattern on this blog, and you can make other sizes, too: http://littlebirdiesecrets.blogspot.com/2010/06/how-to-crochet-butterfly.html

So far I've only put them on bobby pins, but I'm thinking snap clips or other hair accessories would work better.  Smiley

An awesome mini-notebook, sharpies, and a pretty notecard

And best of all, a reusable fabric journal cover!  The inside is a chocolatey-brown fabric with little pockets Cheesy

Thanks so much!  It made my day Smiley

28  Re: What to do with this fabric? (add yours!) in Sewing in General: Discussion and Questions by Mrs. Awesome_Pants on: September 04, 2010 04:56:48 PM
I've got this big bit of granny floral cotton that I'm not sure what to do with.  It's over 5' long, so plenty to make a small clothing item like a skirt or such with, but I'm not wild about the pattern.  I considered cutting it into strips to make a crocheted rug, or making a bunch of potholders or some pillowcases.  Any ideas?

Here's the fabric for reference:

29  Baby blankets! in Crochet: Completed Projects by Mrs. Awesome_Pants on: September 01, 2010 05:30:25 PM
So, I finally got back into crochet after years of hiatus (learned when I was about 10, I made a hideous scarf).  My first big projects, then, were baby blankets!  I have three so far, and am working on more.

This is a pink one that came out more rectangular than square...

And an uber-soft blue one made from Bernat baby yarn, trimmed in that sparkly yarn that is impossible to work with.  But!  I managed it.

And my absolute favorite.  Instead of making a bunch of little granny squares and sewing them together, I just kept making the first one bigger and bigger and bigger.  It's a little over 3'x3' I think.  Everyone says it looks like cotton candy.  I really hope I can find more skeins in these colors because I love them.

Unfortunately I don't have any action shots, but thanks for looking Cheesy
