1  CITY GUIDES FOR CRAFTSTERS / NEW ZEALAND / Re: Where to buy sewing machine in Auckland? on: February 08, 2006 01:23:01 PM
I bought my first sewing maching through the classifieds in the paper - in the days before trademe(!) - and I am really happy with it.  It's pretty old, but it was a really good machine in its day and still is.  I would go the second-hand route, partly because I don't think the new machines for under $400 would be very sturdy, and also because I think you can get more for your money if you can find a good second-hand machine.

If you're using trademe, you can also use the net to check what the machines are like - google the make/model and you should be able to find a list of specs and/or reviews of machines.  Of course, if you're buying new you can do this too.

good luck!

5  CITY GUIDES FOR CRAFTSTERS / NEW ZEALAND / Re: Hamilton/Waikato Groups on: January 14, 2006 01:36:35 PM
sally sparks, I just emailed you.

I, too, am in the 'tron.  Hamilton: not as bad as you might think.

anyway, I don't know of anything around here, but would be keen to get something going - particularly sewing but I'm easy, really.

Also, does anyone from these parts think a Bitch Craft-type thing might be the go around here?  I would love to give it a go, but not alone!

6  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / The Swap Gallery / Re: Australia / New Zealand Swap Gallery! on: November 22, 2005 01:46:58 AM
Yes!  It IS an awesome bag!  And Quazicat was amazing for making it, sending AND then posting the pictures since I have both a new job and a visitor!!!

The owl broach was snaffled up quick smart by my 8 year old flatmate who thinks it's the bees knees!

I must say, it was very intimidating to be partnered with such an AWESOME sewer!!!!

9  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing in General: Discussion and Questions / Re: Help! My seewing machine hates me...:( on: June 17, 2005 10:14:18 AM
Your sewing machine doesn't hate you!!!!!

I think when this kind of thing has happened to me before (I have legion sewing disasters up my sleeve) it's been a needle problem.

For sewing stretchy stuff you need a round-ended needle as opposed to a sharp one.

Hopefully someone else will be able to add to these few pearls of wisdom.  All else I can say is don't fret, you and your machine will again see harmony.
10  CITY GUIDES FOR CRAFTSTERS / NEW ZEALAND / Re: Possibility of Swap? on: April 05, 2005 08:43:18 PM
