1621  Craft Swaps / ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED / Re: 2011 r3 mini 13 days of Halloween(signups CLOSED. Send outs 25/9) on: July 29, 2011 03:23:38 PM
I see some definite spoilage in my partner's future... I have a list of about 30 things I want to make, and very few of them are smalls! I'll have to trim it down of course, but I don't want to! We need like an in between the huge Halloween swap (that was too stressful last year) and this one...

I was just thinking the same thing the other day while teetering on the edge of signing up for the big one (I chickened out). So happy my partner and I agreed to more!

I'm done with 2 things and have a list in teeny-tiny writing on 2 sides of an index card (must get bigger sheet) of other goodies to make. BTW, Phizzychick, I'm so happy with my partner! We don't have much in common by way of style, but I like to craft outside my box. And I'm finding that I really like RobbinZombie's box  Cheesy
1622  Craft Swaps / ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED / Re: I Love Languages Swap! [Sign ups CLOSED Send outs 8/5/11] on: July 27, 2011 01:03:01 PM
hey ya'll hope everyone is doing well... is anyone else doing french or spanish??? my partner is likes spanish but i studied french for 4 yrears... and the food for one year Grin

but from i have read in our forum you guys are making me want to take up a new one  that has nothing to do with the languages of romance lol

I studied Spanish for 4 years then took up Russian about a year ago. I wanted a change of scenery, so to speak  Smiley Russian was actually the language I wanted to take up years before Spanish, but my mom said I'd never use it. Then I wanted Arabic, again, the same reply. (of course now my area has a ton of Eastern European people and Arabic is in demand, but who knew?)  So I took Spanish, which I like, I mean, I'm part Mexican, but I am glad I get to study Russian now.

I am so close to being done. Just have to finish up 1 more thing...

I love the yellow one, cupcakeology, and the nice trims you gave the backs on both.

If anyone is interested, I made a tutorial for the Alice-inspired pillow: http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=386798.0
1627  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General / Alice in Wonderland: One pillow makes you... (with tutorial!) on: July 25, 2011 09:39:42 PM
It's an Alice pillow!

To make your very own you'll need:
Blue:
3 6"x10"
1 13"x21"
1 17"x21"

White:
2 3.5"x10"
1 3.5"x21"
2 6"x21"
1 9.5"x21"
1 9.5"x42"

(all measurements include a .5" seam allowance)
Take 1 6x10 blue and 1 3.5x10 white and sew them along the 10" side:

Alternate blue and white until you have this:

Finish the seams and line up the 3.5x21 piece for the waist of the apron along the bottom of the top:

Gather the apron skirt (the 9.5x42) top and stitch onto the 9.5x21 piece, wrong sides together. The 9.5x21 piece is so the skirt part maintains its shape. It will look like this on the front:

And this on the back:

Gather the bottom of the apron skirt and stitch to the bottom of the same backing piece.

With right sides together sew the apron skirt to the waistband to get this:

Sew the ties (6x21) by folding them in half and stitching along the long side. Then finger press them so the seam is in the middle and sew the top. You'll come out with this:

Turn ties right side out and press.
Stitch ties to the waistband. Stitch apron sides to backing.

Hem the 2 big blue pieces with a 2" hem. Lay them down so right sides face right sides. You should see only the wrong sides.
Sew together.
Turn right side out, put a pillow in and there you have your 20"x20" Alice-inspired pillow cover!

Tie it tightly for the look in the 1st photo.

Hope you can use this!

I'm working on an Alice pillow tutorial  Smiley

@h-chan: I used marvy fabric markers with some tulip thrown in. Brush tips are much easier to work with.
