1501  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Re: Theme Boxes on: November 03, 2011 08:26:35 AM

--To answer you're other question about, what the points are for, I am new to it as well but I think I may have it down Barney style. There can be different sized swaps...Like One Tiny Stuffie? It's a small swap, all you need to send is one small handmade stuffie. You can do more if you would like to, that's between you and your partner. Then there are medium ones, same idea, I was told medium things cost like 10-15 dollars of cash value or 1-2 hours of crafting time...I think Large swaps, like the Christmas stocking one currently going on, those are ones you go all out on. To me it seems people join one large one, maybe a medium, and then do a few small ones like ATC swaps as fillers.

I hope that helped! Smiley

Here's a link to the point system: http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=229624.msg3712343#msg3712343

Some swaps that don't use the point system have other size guidelines, like one tiny thing, or an ATC, or fill a flat rate box or an envelope, etc.

That's such a clever idea! You really look the part, too.

Would international shippers be able to use a comparably sized box?

I'd rather do an OTT or a smaller regular swap. The dates sound good for me. Loving these Jack-o'-lanterns  Grin

After a bumpy, bumpy start I have now completed 3 items for StickerChic! Well, I still have to slip stitch part of 1, but I count that as close enough  Grin Yay!
1507  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / Re: Back to Base X spy themed game on: October 28, 2011 11:53:03 AM
Thanks for the comments! Making games makes me happy and other people liking them makes me even happier  Smiley

Yes, you can totally make them educational! I tend to believe that playing games is educational in and of itself because it can build social skills, reasoning, and a whole host of other things. Even this game has non-exact color matching, counting, direction, etc.

I love, love, love this idea and simply must steal it  Smiley Thank you so much for sharing!
1509  CLOTHING / Costumes: Completed Projects / Steampunk-y Skirt on: October 27, 2011 10:43:57 AM
I kinda had a steampunk-ish/gothic lolita-y vision for this skirt:

The skirt is 2 A-line layers with the top black layer flaring slightly more than the grey one. Both are blind-hemmed and gathered together (they were cut 2 times more than the hip measurement) then sewn to an elastic waistband cut just bigger than the hips. It's quite poofy.

The ribbon ties and unties to adjust the ruching. After I took these pictures I found a button at an antique store to put at the top of the ribbon for added stability and interest. It's grey and black marbled.

I love costumes and things and had a great time dreaming up this one.

Thanks for taking a look!

ETA: BTW, I made spats/leg warmers to go with this. Here's a link to a tutorial I wrote up about them in case anyone is interested: http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=392832.0
1510  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / Back to Base X spy themed game on: October 27, 2011 10:21:29 AM
I was in the Chuck swap and made this game for my partner:

It's basically Sorry but has spy-themed rules, colors and cards. I named it Back to Base X because 1. I put Xs on the spaces where home is on Sorry and 2. I liked how the name sounds when you say it fast (Base X=basics. Yeah, I know I'm weird.)

For the pieces I used those little floral gem stones. The colors were surprisingly easy to find.

I put the rules in an airmail envelope.

The board itself is all felt with oodles of wonder under and thread. All totaled the game took about 9 hours to make. I love making games and spy stuff so I had a fantastic time with this.

Thanks for looking!
