1501  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / The Swap Gallery / Re: Dieselpunk swap gallery on: June 21, 2012 02:17:23 PM
according to the page i took it off of, the poster is supposed to say "women workers, take up your rifles!" which I basically took to be the russian, more bad ass equivalent of "we can do it" with Rosey Riveter Smiley

Oh, darn it, I forgot to check for the masculine/feminine ending. So many endings! I love languages, though. The clock just keeps getting better: Rosie the Riveter too! Thanks again, trisarose!

Oh, both are pretty. I love that Lucy in the Sky sparkles. The other is great too! It reminds me of fruit mentos.

Well, Im right in the middle of a second go for Calabaza's main item. Taking a little break to look around for a back up plan in case it doesnt work out. Then Ill go finish it and we'llllll see. If it does work, then at least I'll have my back up plan to use for her for another time (if she'll have me again Wink)
You're home already?!
Sheesh, yes, of course I'll have you again...if you'll have me. Swap anxiety's giving me a zero confidence vote right now but it's in the mail! DC# coming shortly Smiley
I can't wait to see what you're working on. Or the back up plan. I'm not picky. Everything you make is great!

@JerseyGal: I don't think I have too much of an idea about dieselpunk either. Roll Eyes

@Sticker: Haha! I'm feeling very well stalked, swap partner  Grin

Thank you both!
1506  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / The Swap Gallery / Re: Hair Accessories Swap Round 2 GALLERY! on: June 21, 2012 09:12:16 AM
The other day a package arrived from Unicornlasers:

I love these chessmen hair sticks!

Unfortunately the rest were broken, but I think with a needle and thread I can fix 2 of them.

Thank you, Unicornlasers! And thank you so much to Kookaloo_Starr for being willing to angel!

I made this military-inspired messenger bag for my partner in the dieselpunk swap. It was my first time using grommet tape and I just ordered a bunch more yards of it Smiley  I don't know if I got the dieselpunk vibe or not, but I'm pretty please with how it turned out.

The back pocket, topped with grommet tape.

The grommet tape is sewn all the way down the sides and into the bottom seam. The pockets pleats are sewn at the bottom and pressed all the way up. This fabric holds a crease really well.

The extra tape from the adjustable strap part can hide out in one of the pockets.

I used a buckle and a vest-tie-buckle-thing for the adjusting hardware. The grommet tape that went all the way down the sides goes all the way past the top of the bag to become the strap.

The inside is lined with muslin and has a pocket with brown grommet tape trim.

Oh, and there's grommet tape running all the way up the center front under the flap as well! I love this stuff. It should come in every color of the rainbow plus patterns and different widths. I got mine from MajikCraft on Etsy. I only saw black at JoAnns.

Thanks for looking! I'd love to hear what you think. Is it dieselpunky? Do you know of other places to buy grommet tape? C&C welcome. Smiley
1508  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / Talk About The Swap Process / Help desk taking longer than usual? on: June 21, 2012 07:20:43 AM
Has the help desk been flooded with tickets? Usually it's lightning-fast but this time it's been over 48 hours since I submitted one and there's still no response. I know the message says "usually within 48 hours" but it's never been that long before... Huh

ETS: Just heard back! Thanks so much, all of you mods who man the desk!

I'm glad you like what I sent you, trisarose! Incidentally I posted a tutorial for the composition book cover here: http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=410258.0 It differs a bit from others I've seen.

Okay, now for the truly awesome package trisarose sent me!

First up is a pair of long wished-for fingerless gloves:

I love them! I have wanted fingerless gloves for ages and ages and now I have a fun and wonderful pair of my very, very own.

Next is one of the most perfect jackets I've ever seen, let alone owned:

She made military-insignia-esque covers for the epaulettes. It's awesome for me: more subtly dieselpunky so I can wear it out and about, which I have already!

One of the most challenging parts of this swap for me was that I saw a lot of stuff labeled dieselpunk that looked like stuff in stores now. I don't now if I'm reading that wrong, but I can pick out steampunk much easier than dieselpunk. However trisarose made something I think is wonderfully blatant dieselpunk and suits me to a T:

She said she took a file and hammer to it to age it! How's that for gutsy? It incorporates so many things I like: Black and silver, time-telling devices, Morse code, Russian and symbols. The top word in the Russian poster picture means "workers" I think. Google translate thinks the ones printed sideways mean "take the rifle". Can you tell I'm a beginner  Grin

I don't know if she or the postal service (the box looked like it'd been taken to a stable and trampled on  Angry  ) did the cracked glass but I think it's a great touch!

Thank you so, so much! I love everything, trisarose. And thank you, Alchamy513, for hosting such a fabulous swap!

I often wrap things in plastic wrap before sending. Covering envelopes in packing tape is an excellent idea! Good to know it works for international ones too. Love that one of attaching things to paper as well.
