these two peices are of the few that i did this semester that are worth showing y'all.

jungian archetype, water soluble oils, 3x4 feet

and here is le narrative, acrylic, 3x4 feet

i feel really good about these. the polar bear just came along so smoothly, under pressure. almost a fluke, but really, i always work best under pressure.

2  lil squishies for a new squishy in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by blue.laroo on: June 07, 2012 10:30:30 PM
my good friend monica is having a baby two weeks(ish) from now while i am in europe, and im pretty bummed about it, since i was going to help out at her home birth. so i made her Peanut a couple of squishies to keep em company till im back.

these are the same style i used to make with me mam back when i was a kid. i could never get over the simplistic cuteness of 2d squishies.

i made an elephant and a lil daruma kitty to stand guard.

lookit! he has a tail! Cheesy

the daruma is re-purposed t-shirts, and the elephant is an old turkish cotton sheet with watermark-style jacquard striping. (im making a bias cut dress out of the rest of the sheets, so in <3). next time around for the daruma, i think i will put beans or rice in his butt so he can stand up better.

at any rate, im pretty stoked, and monica got all teary eyed with glee and asked if she really *had* to give them to peanut. mission accomplished/qua'pla!

this was a fun day- projected images on a darkened model-

a week later, we had "animal morph day"

then we went over anatomy, and got to play with a cadaver (YESSSSSS). this is vince, the (live) man with invisible skin

my best friend, cornie, visited me from switzerland and came to class. shes a photojunkie and had to document me *not* screwing up hands and feet

and the following three pieces are my final project, a cohesive independent project. i went triptych in style, the title "never again" delves into how everyone gets fucked over in the case of infidelity. all three are india ink and bamboo pen and brush on watercolor paper.

4  RECYCLED grocery bag purse in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by blue.laroo on: June 17, 2010 10:13:14 PM
i made a purse for my friend brittany last year, but i just now found the pics, and im also pretty new to craftster, this is the second thing ive posted.

ive been using grocery bags to crochet with for quite a while. i really love working with the plastic, its super versatile, and is awesome for making baskets or purses. making the yarn is pretty time consuming, although if you have a couple of friends, you can knock some out pretty quickly, say, an afternoon.

lemme know if we need a tutorial on how i make my yarn.

everyone, meet ninja. hes cute. he likes to see what i do. and sit on my head. (i really like the checkerboard pattern that i used for under the flap)

and here you can see it with the flap closed. you can also sorta see the way i crocheted the strap, using the black as a highlight chain stitch.

Cheesy the last time i made myself a purse, it seriously lasted about 3 or 4 years of continuous use.

5  Kinetic Koture- Trash Fashion (image heavy) in Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by blue.laroo on: June 17, 2010 09:46:04 PM
a few months ago, my best friend and i decided to join the competition in our area known as Kinetic Koture. its a trash fashion show put on by Kinetic Universe, Inc as a fundraiser for the great Kinetic Grand Championship. i won last year, which earned me the title of Trashonista Gloriosa the First (it was the first year we held the event, haha)

however, i wanted to show off what we did this year. the super-awesome pics are from a photoshoot by my friend Charles McNally (http://www.flickr.com/photos/fervus), the rest are from us throughout the process.

this is us, christa in her Target Bag Dress (ironed/fused plastic) and i am in my Organic Quinoa Jumper (Quinoa bags, spray paint and duct tape)

im starting the detail at the bottom of the dress

after the blue layer

doing the copper highlights

this is my first outfit, backstage at the Koture. pineapple sunglasses, jumper, wax cardboard roman-style sandal boots, and recycled crocheted purse (purse NOT made by me)

this is a shot of our other outfits for koture (yes, we had 2 totally different looks), photo by fervus. i love christa's creepy outfit, this is more of the ironed (fused) plastic, with window screen.

and this is my DANGER dress. i used danger tape from all of the condemned/unsafe buildings in our Humboldt County earthquake in January. stitching it all together was kinda a pain, but well worth it! i used a zig-zag stitch, and just made sure to line up the red bias stripe, and im glad i did! it looks AWESOME

here's the DANGER dress in action, Kinetic Grand Championship 2010, as Race Director Royal Blue Laroo (*this* photo, courtesy of C Hoff Designs)
