21  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / The Swap Gallery / Re: Embroidery Hoopla Rnd 6 Gallery!! (Send 9/12/11) on: August 22, 2011 05:44:20 PM
My flamingo lamp is both amused & appalled by the most recent hoop.  He scoffs at the idea of a gnome eating him.  However, he's a house flamingo & doesn't know how things are on the outside.

Awesome work, BTW Smiley

I finished stitching yesterday, now I need to clean it up, mount, etc. to make it truly "finished".  I'm used to taking them off the hoop & tossing my pieces in a box.

indeed they should! and happy birthday

Thanks! Cheesy

It's a good day to be born! I'm celebrating an anniversary of my 29th bday today! Started with a great day at work & ends with some stitching!

Heck yea, its my grandmas birthday today too, happy birthday to you too. Smiley  I have been winding floss on to bobbins since I got home from work this afternoon, and only made a small dent.

Winding floss is oddly therapeutic.

27  HOME SWEET HOME / Exterior Decorating / Yard Art / Gardening: Completed Projects / Re: Garden at the beach on: August 17, 2011 06:17:10 PM
Wanted to update with a few more pics.  It's been SUPER hot & dry here at the beach & the poor garden has suffered terribly.  On eof the tomato plants is dead & the bell peppers are barely hanging on.  We got a lot of peppers off the Serrano plant, and I was surprised a few days ago when I picked 14 more off of it!

Here's the Big Mamma serrano that I picked:

I had to put it next to a glue stick to give ya'll a good idea of the size!  Serranos don't get too big, but this one did!

More pretty flowers from the garden:

lol I use my glass table and a lamp to trace my design onto the fabric. Cheesy
I did the exactly same thing what you did. I wanted to get started but it was dark, light bulb moment in my head- got a lamp and used my coffee table to trace. Works great!! :-D

That's smart!  Dad had a light board that he was never using so he gave me his.  Lord knows I wouldn't have paid for one.  I'm cheap!  Er... frugal (that sounds better, right?)

As far as freehand, I make so many dang lines to draw something that a piece of fabric would be marked all to hell, so I never draw directly on the fabric.  I do better to get it all laid out on paper and then transfer it.  One of my drawing professors (I was a studio art major before becoming an RN) said that I draw like I think in 3D.  Whatever that means.

Stalk wist &/or pinterest...check
Plot design in head for a day or two...check
Map out design on computer...check

Now I need to transfer it to fabric.  I can never do this easily.  Usually this involves more than 1 copy of the image & a light board.

Off to cut up a sheet & draw!
