71  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Re:Intarsia question on: February 03, 2004 08:02:13 PM
Would love to see any photos or hear of your luck with intarsia seeding.  Especially with a scarf, since it's not reversible.

Last year I worked up a great scarf in merino that had seed stitches as a border (about 1 inch on all sides) and stockinette in the center--a little more work to keep track of what you are doing, but worth it.  The knit border just doesn't do it for me.

If you are working in wool, you can always felt and block if you really like stockinette.   Intarsia felted things are my new best friends!

I've laminated or put contact paper on some of the ones I've done, but didn't do anything for this particular purse.

definitely a summer-time don't-shove-everything-into-it kind of purse.  And here's one of The Sting.  I used zippers for the handles.  Great for knitting needles and smaller projects!

73  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Re:wrist warmers on: February 02, 2004 06:18:13 PM
I've been obsessed with wristwarmmies since Thanksgiving.  It means that I can finish a project every night (or three or four!).

My basic pattern is to CO 36 sts of a worsted weight yarn on size 7/8.  K1, p1 in first color for 4-5 rows, depending on what you like best.  k1, p1 of your second color for 12-15 rows and cast off.  Sew together.  Add patch.

This was all before the intarsia fever set in, so now I'm not using patches.  but all the same.

74  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Re:Legwarmer knitting pattern on: February 02, 2004 06:11:41 PM
Here's mine.

Apologies for the pic--I accidentally knit these ones extra extra extra lusty so don't have a model for them!

This pattern is my general tried-and-true, not the one featured in the pic.

Using size 13 needles, I CO 34 sts of three strands light weight acrylic (medium--Use 32 sts for S or 36 for M+).

K1, p1 every row until you achieve a desired length or close to it (your length must be knee height or shorter or you'll have to add sts).  I keep a stitch counter going so I know exactly how many sts for the next warmer.

When the leggies are nearly as long as I like them to be, I knit all sts all rows for 6 rows.  This helps to keep a natural elastic around the knees.   You should have a huge knit rectangle/square.  Sew together.  The CO row goes near the ankles.  Repeat.

Feel free to weave ribbons in and out of the tops or sew on buttons/zippers.  I've sewed zippers into the seams rather than attaching them directly, too.

75  CROCHET / Crochet: Completed Projects / strawberry hat on: February 02, 2004 05:59:16 PM
In an effort to battle the yarn takeover in my life (even the not so great yarn)

I double crocheted a hat with pink acrylic and then added a red bouclee strands in random spots.  the red tails were originally a big bow, but I liked them better down.

I've been making these like a madwoman.

go mother goose--inside and out.  I used the handles from a gift bag/just bent and filed them.

77  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Re:mermaid and pin up patterns on: January 26, 2004 02:41:06 PM
I am looking for any patterns--

preferably knit patterns or cross stitch that I could modify to intarsia

Even simple images that I could grid and modify my own pattern.

thanks!

78  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / mermaid and pin up patterns on: January 22, 2004 07:49:08 PM
Does anyone have a good pattern for a mermaid, mud flap girl, or simple pin up girl?  I'd like to put one on the front of the hoodie I'm knitting.

I saw a picture online of a man with a mermaid on his cardigan, but no pattern.

79  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Re:scrap yarn projects? or what the hell can i do with my stash? on: January 22, 2004 07:47:05 PM
I've been a felting maniac with my leftovers--knitting small squares and rectangles (sometimes with an intarsia image in them, sometimes not) and felting them until they are half their original size.

And what do I do with the felted squares?
-make sets of coasters with matching felted box
-sew them together to make chunky felted purses/notebook wraps
-make a lining of tyvek (see the post in the handbag section), sew on a zipper, and attach for a great coin purse or tampon holder that won't get too linty on the inside.  perfect.

I mostly just like the knitting fix that gets results in less than three hours.

For acrylic stuff, get large needles and knit several strands together.  When you get to the end of one color, tie on a new one.  Make cozies for your tv, stereo, bed frame, bike, or lamp.
