Meet Our 2Q2011 Home Sweet Home Featured Member - Mara Macabre!

This quarter's featured member is from Germany. We love the Nightmare Before Christmas Pyramid she shared with us and want to hear more about it!  We're pleased to announce this quarter's featured member is Mara Macabre!

Tell us a little about yourself.
I am 25 years old and live in a small town next to Hamburg in the north of Germany.
I am a Medical Laboratory Assistant and work in a hospital in Hamburg.
In my free time I spend a lot of time with my boyfriend (we are together since 8 years), with my 4 cats, my friends and of course with crafting.
Even as a child I handicraft a lot. At the present day it is an important part of my life.
I have been sewing my own clothing since I was 16 years old and so proud to wear my selfmade clothes and jewelery.
I love it to try new crafting techniques and to get one's inspiration from all the creative minds out there (especially here in these and other creative communities).

What was your inspiration for making the Nightmare Before Christmas Pyramid?

http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=383569.msg4541320#msg4541320

When I was a child, I found a Christmas pyramid on a bulk garbage. It was old and broken but I repaired it and give it a new paint (white with a lot of glitter, I was 13 years old   Grin and well, it looked .... different  Wink )
But I never got the idea from the head to moulde a new special pyramid from an old pyramid.
10 years later my mother give me the pyramid (which was old and cheap) and because I love the Tim Burton style I tried to style like my favorite movie.

What was the most challenging aspect of making it?
Hmmm, well a challenging aspect was to retain the static. The pyramid was very cheap and full with paste. I deglutined the parts with warm water but the wood warped a little bit. And the figures of Sally and Jack were too high so I had to extend the pillars.

Do you have any tips for someone wanting to redecorate their own Christmas pyramid?
A comfortable starting situation is a Christmas pyramid which is not full of paste.
You can deglutined the parts in warm water, I started to saw apart when my mother give me the tip with the water. And the decoration for the pyramid should not be too heavy, papier mache is perfect, otherwise the pyramid doesn't rotate.

Where is it now?
In my living room  Smiley

On what other boards can Craftster members find your work posted?
You can find my work on the clothing board and home sweet home. But I made a lot of jewelry and I would love to show you soon.

What's your favorite item on Craftster created by someone else?
Ohh, there a sooo much awesome items.
It's to difficult to choose only one.
At the moment I fell in love with BirdBones fantastic Burton Bathroom Its so amazing, I would die for such a bathroom   Grin

TroubleT claimed my daughter Tracy for some Japanese kanji shirts.  Tracy loves everything Japanese.  Tracy has some dealings with Hard Rock Japan with her job and is learning to read and speak the language.  The shirts came today and she's going to FLIP OUT over them.  You chose the exact two kanji I would have selected for her, T!

This one says 'Ignore'

This one says 'Kaiju' (Japanese monster, like Godzilla)

And she even included a little extra pouch in a Japanese print.

Thanks so much for helping make her Christmas fun, T!  Much appreciated!   Smiley
3177  Craft Swaps / ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED / Re: 2011 r3 mini 13 days of Halloween(signups CLOSED. Send outs 25/9) on: September 16, 2011 12:56:56 PM
How are we doing the gallery? Everyone just create a post then update it each day? Do one big one at the end??

Good question, noturavggeek!  Last year each person claimed their spot and updated it every day.  I found that I was just going back to my spot and updating it, not taking the time to browse through the entire gallery to see what everyone got that day.  But I'm lazy!  Any way folks want to do it is fine with me.
