51  Re: Vintage Halloween Swap Gallery (Send Out 9/25) in The Swap Gallery by MissingWillow on: September 21, 2013 06:49:49 AM
Pottermouth sent me the most wonderous treasure.  REALLY TRULY!  She sent me a book.

What kind of book is it?  Tales of Horror from Pottermouth Press.  I am intrigued...

Look inside!  Holy crap!  It's the most amazing multilayered papercut of all time.  It's epic, I tell ya!  I keep staring at it and am still noticing new details.  It's going to be displayed year round at Missing Willow Farm.

This little girl just kills me.  I know I know her but can't place her.  Someone please help me.

As if that absolute treasure wasn't enough... she included the most adorable hand drawn tin of a Jack O'Lantern carver.  What is the base?  I must get some of those.

You are AWESOME, Pottermouth!  Thank you thank you thank you for my treasures!

52  Fig Preserves and Goat Cheese in Vegetarian / Vegan by MissingWillow on: September 05, 2013 10:47:26 AM
Goat cheese and figs are a classic pairing.  I was gifted some beautiful fresh figs a few days ago and decided to preserve them so we can enjoy them with our homemade chevre and crackers over the next few months.
This recipe was adapted from the Ball Book of Home Preserving. You'll need:
8 cups of figs
4 cups water
2 2/3 cups sugar
1 lemon sliced thinly and deseeded.

Here's what we were gifted, aren't they gorgeous?

The first step is to pour boiling water over them to cover and let them sit for 15 minutes.  After that, drain and rinse them.

Bring the water, sugar and lemon slices to a boil.  Hold at a boil for 10 minutes then discard the lemon slices.

Working in batches, boil the figs in the syrup in a single layer for 15 minutes.

See how they shrivel up after boiling?  When the entire batch is done, pour the syrup on the figs, cover with plastic wrap and let sit at room temperature over night.

The next day bring the fig mixture to a boil again.

Process them in sterilized jars in a boiling water bath for 10 minutes per standard canning instructions.  They will also be terrific on biscuits, and to fancy up cocktails.  Fig Manhattan anyone?   Grin

Day 1
I am now the very proud owner of one of Ms. kittykill's creations.  She made a headless horseman cross stitch that's just perfect.  Isn't it awesome?

Day 2
Today's goodie is an eyeball candle in a spooky severed skeleton's hand.  Love it!

Day 3
Gorgeous gorgeous gorgeous (and spooky) embroidery in the most amazing oval frame!  Just wow!

Day 4
Socks!  And they totally go with the jammies I was wearing when I opened them.   Grin

Day 5
Candy Candy Candy!  Can't wait to try the gummie body parts.  We're having company over tonight, I'm going to serve them.   Shocked

Day 6
EEP!  Spider girl!  She's vintage perfection!  I love her!

Day 7
Halloween ornaments!  I am going to have to get a Halloween tree to display these.  I received a few in last year's swap, too, so I think the universe is telling me to get one...  I love them so much.   Smiley

Day 8
The most perfectly stitched 'Trick or Treat' kitchen towel!  Just gorgeous!

Day 9
It's a box full of fun!  I love the images she chose to embellish it, and the skull on top is fantastic.

Here's another view:

Inside I found this adorable 'snow' globe.   Smiley

and classic monster movie goodies.  Yahoo!

Day 10
I am seriously in love with this key fob.  Dude.  Seriously.  I want to learn how to make these myself because they're so cool!

Day 11
Two gorgeous chunky houses to add to my Halloween chunky house neighborhood.  I love these so much!  If I'm not mistaken I think they are kittykill's first attempt.  She's a pro!

Day 12
The most darling raven on a fence mug and some yummy tea and chai to try.

Day 13
Boo!  Last day... kittykill sent me the most beautiful, fluffy, warm, amazing throw.  My cat Bindi immediately tried to claim it as her own.  Not so fast there, missy!  Thank you kittykill for the most amazing swap.  It's been wonderful opening my treasures from you every morning.

55  Re: Side Show Swap Gallery in The Swap Gallery by MissingWillow on: August 07, 2013 12:07:26 PM
OK... let me start with I just love this SO MUCH!  My perfect little package arrived from coocoosnest today.  When I filled out my swap questionnaire, I put that I'd love any kind of farm animal curiosity or something about a hairless cat because we have a small farm and a sphynx cat.  I was blown away when I lifted this little circus tent out of the box!  But wait... there's more...

The circus tent lifts up to expose a little diorama for each curiosity.  How clever is that!?  First up... a sheep with 5 legs.  There's a little feed machine you can get grain from for just 10 cents.

A two headed calf!

A headless chicken!  *snort* I love the hand pointing to the dismembered head!

D-Day bull with 4 horns, 4 eyes and a double nose.  Andy D-Day is a freak bull from Ohio.  He's famous!

A goat with 4 horns who has graffiti'd the sign in front of her stall!

And my absolute favorite, the tattooed cat!  The note that arrived with my treasure explains that he is suffering from a broken heart because his girlfriend recently dumped him.  He just sits and recites "she loves me, she loves me not" with daisies all day.  Poor little guy has put on some weight, too.  That is my cat Bindi's photo in the heart!   Cheesy

Bindi received a little present as well!  Don't you just love the Bindi heart tattoo?!

She misses him a little bit, too.  Sends along a little kiss.   Kiss

I am so overjoyed with this treasure, coocoosnest and I already have plans to swap again.  Thank you so much, you're the best!

56  Sideshow - Two Headed Pig in Completed Projects by MissingWillow on: August 01, 2013 02:58:48 PM
My partner for the Sideshow Swap, coocoosnest noted that she likes conjoined, creepy and disturbing things.  My kinda gal!  After much research and consideration, I figured she would enjoy a two headed fetal pig in a jar.  I mean, who wouldn't?   Cheesy

The banner is printed on cloth, and strung between poles made from candlesticks and chopsticks.  The base is the top of a cigar box.

The pig is made from polymer clay, suspended in a pimento jar (I do love to make pimento cheese).  I was able to find lots of reference photos for the specimen online.

The only thing I didn't have in my stash was the light, which I picked up at Michaels in the floral department.

57  Ornithologist's Curiosity Cabinet in Completed Projects by MissingWillow on: July 28, 2013 04:49:54 AM
For the recent bird swap, I was inspired to make a curiosity cabinet for my partner goatgoddess.  I blame my inspiration on the oddity research I've been doing for the side show swap!   Cheesy

My favorite part is in the tiny bottle in the lower right of the cabinet.  It's a hummingbird feather that we found in our greenhouse.  The little acorn nest is holding beauty berry seeds from our garden. The bird skull is made from poly clay.

This was truly a fun project to make.   Smiley

58  Re: One Tiny Bird Thing Swap (OTBT) GALLERY! in The Swap Gallery by MissingWillow on: July 24, 2013 03:47:41 PM
Here's my adorable chicken box from goatgoddess.  She used images of polish chickens, which I love! It's a beautiful multimedia piece that I just adore!

The back has (I think) a sebring rooster and a white crested black polish rooster.

Baby chicks on top!

My favorite!

And on the inside... so cute!

So what makes this bird box so special?  Here's my very own Marsha.

Thanks so much, goatgoddess!  We need to do a goat swap one of these days!   Cheesy

60  Re: Does anyone mix their own glazes? in Pottery, Ceramics, etc: Discussion and Questions by MissingWillow on: June 24, 2013 04:26:08 PM
Thanks so much for your response, plaidpineapple!  My husband took on the glaze mixing duties and he's done three so far.  I love how they came out.  Here's oatmeal with a blue accent.
