51  Re: Altered Spool Swap Gallery in The Swap Gallery by MissingWillow on: June 14, 2014 12:50:12 PM
Beautifully done, goatgoddess and KC!  I, too, love all things Halloween.  I got an in-process preview of the fairy hill.  Too cute for words!

PerfectlyBohemian and cackle came for brunch this morning so I got an in-person swap and a lovely lovely Craftster visit.  I might have said I like zombie sheep in my questionnaire.   Grin  Check out the awesome felted zombie sheep spool she brought me! She's a lovely shade of zombie green and has some rib bones and showing on her side.

Two of her legs have rotted away down to the bones.  Ha!

PerfectlyBohemian used a spool for the body of the sheep and embroidered an amazing scene inside!

She learned from my blog that we have a new guardian dog puppy named Lizzie and calls this "The epic tale of how the Great Lizzy saved Missing Willow Farm!"

Zombie sheep are chasing healthy sheep and Lizzie is chasing the zombie sheep.  I love how some of their legs are falling off as they run!  LOL!

Just for the record, here's the real Great Lizzy and one of the sheep she's guarding.   Cheesy

Thank you so much for coming to the farm and bringing me a treasure to add to my little collection.   Kiss

You will be altering a spool for your partner.  The spool itself must be the prominent part of the project, not just used as a peripheral element. There are many sizes of spools available, from those you would find in your sewing kit up to large cable reels.  To keep things fair, please don't use a spool larger than 6 inches tall.

You will receive only one partner.  The idea behind this swap is to give you a simple, low-pressure craft swap that won't stress you out.  We want to see your best work, this gallery will be wonderful!

For those new to altered spools, here is link to a pinterest board - http://www.pinterest.com/missingwillow/altered-spools/.  There are many other versions if you'd like to do a search.  This is a "no extras" swap and there is a lot of time to craft, so make sure you do something spectacular!  Oh, and the secret word is  "I sent this questionnaire to both MissingWillow and HSG."

If this is your first swap please read: (http://www.craftster.org/swapsinfo.html) to find out how to ship your item and other details about participating in a swap.

54  Amy Butler Project Bag in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by MissingWillow on: April 29, 2014 03:27:23 AM
I made this project bag for pottermouth in the most recent IYP swap.  I just completed an Amy Butler quilt top and had lots of lovely scraps left over.  I really like how it turned out, and can't wait to get the quilt finished!

If anyone would like to make their own, here is a link to my tutorial.

56  Botanical Kitchen Towels in Machine Embroidery: Completed Projects by MissingWillow on: April 25, 2014 08:41:43 AM
I stitched these up for rackycoo in the most recent Invite Your Partner swap.  They are botanical raspberries and cranberries.  I think I need a set, too.

57  Re: IYP (invite your partner) 25 - Silver Jubilee Gallery in The Swap Gallery by MissingWillow on: April 24, 2014 06:06:08 PM
I just got home from vacation to a lovely surprise- my IYP package from rackycoo.  I received some crazy amazing things from her, and am absolutely thrilled!

First of all, what could be better than receiving an altoid tin of bits and bobs from such an amazing altered artist??  A tiny glow in the dark skeleton, an eye(!), cigar band, rusty stuff, dresden trim, cool graphics, so much awesome stuff to play with.

She made me a gorgeous bee themed book box with matching tags (my hubby and I are beekeepers).  I love the colors and papers she used and the flowers on the front are beautiful.

When you open it, there's a little pearl-lined opening that showcases a bee with the most amazing patina on it.  The interior paper is honeycomb.  It's just perfect!

But the best part... there is a tealight set into the base that allows me to put a spotlight on the bee!  I had a really hard time getting photos today. I couldn't wait to share what I received!  I'll bug rackycoo to post each and everything she made me in a separate thread with her own photos so the rest of Craftster can ooh and ahh.   Smiley

Prepare to be jealous.  She made me a peg doll.  A ZOMBIE peg doll!  She's holding a severed hand.  How awesome is this?!  I'm such a dork, I'd much prefer a zombie peg doll than a cutesy one.  She's awesome.

And most amazing of all... she painted a portrait of my cat Bindi.  The PERFECT likeness of her.  This is an absolute treasure that already has a spot in my living room...

Right next to the perfect painting she did of our dog Jenna a few years ago right before she passed away.  I am so lucky.  Thank you from the bottom of my heart, rackycoo.   Kiss

Pottermouth's magic box of awesome arrived today.  Sorry for the weird outdoor photos but the weather and natural light is terrible here this afternoon.  I couldn't resist posting the treasures she sent me!

Funky washcloths which I plan to use as trivets year around.  Love the colors.  They remind me of Halloween.  You'll probably notice this is the start of a theme.  I love Halloween.

A chunky Halloween house to add to my neighborhood!  It's one of two things I collect.  More on that in a moment.

Here's the back of the house, it's as nice as the front.  I think Pottermouth needs to join the chunky house swap this year, just saying!

A homemade recipe box and a stamp for making my own recipe cards.  I can't wait to try this.  I think I may be stamping challenged, so am up for any tips/hints any of you paper goddesses have for me.

A prim skeleton shrine.  How cool is this?  A card arrived announcing their names are Stuart and Nelson.  Nelson also goes by the name Bob.   Cheesy

Aren't they great!?

An altered spooky house with 13 hidden eyeballs.  I've yet to find them all, need to get hubby to help.

I almost keeled over and passed out when I opened this box.  The only other thing I collect is zombie sheep and I have only talked 3 people into tackling that theme over my years at Craftster (because you can't typically find them at the mall...).  I asked for a pincushion and check out what she sent me!!!

The sign is awesome.

You are so talented, Pottermouth.  LMK if you need better photos when our weather clears.  Everything you sent needs their own threads!  Thank you, thank you, thank you!

59  Super Exfoliating Melt and Pour Glycerine Soap in Bath and Beauty: Completed Projects by MissingWillow on: April 01, 2014 04:27:01 AM
I've been dying to try some of the soaps containing crushed walnut shells I've seen on pinterest lately.  This winter has been really bad for dry skin so I thought I'd give it a try.  I didn't want to dull my Cuisinart by chopping up the shells up so decided to go for a little more chunky bar.  The peanut shells are leftover from my Floating Candle Tutorial and the hickory shells are from our yard.  This batch isn't scented.  For my next batch, I think I'll try a fragrance that reminds me of springtime.  Also, I won't use shells from salted peanuts, the soap kind of scratches and the salt isn't any fun.

60  Floating Candle Tutorial in Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General by MissingWillow on: April 01, 2014 04:25:15 AM
I have a special dinner coming up and wanted to make a fun centerpiece for the table.  I decided to make floating peanut candles, you can too!

Start with candle wax and wicks.  I used soy wax because it's fancy.

The wick bottoms are too large to fit inside of the peanut shells so I took cutters to make them smaller.

Melt the wax in a double boiler.  I used a chopstick as a stirrer.  Once the wax is melted, carefully pour it into the peanut shells.  Once it cools trim the wicks and you are done!

Here's an action shot.  The whole process only took a little over an hour from start to finish.
C & C welcome!
