1  CROCHET / Crochet: Discussion and Questions / how did they do this? (leather and crochet skirt) on: April 02, 2011 11:04:45 PM
hi Smiley

this is a vintage skirt that was purchased on etsy. it's circa1970s i believe.
i wanted to make something using a similar crochet technique but don't understand how this is built. mostly how the crochet parts work around each leather piece but then connect so seamlessly.

does anyone have any idea on this type of crochet technique or what kind of crochet stitches they are?

2  New York / New York: NYC and Long Island / get paid crocheting on: March 12, 2011 10:20:47 AM
If anyone living in the NYC area is interested in getting paid for crocheting (jewelry), please let me know. It's a great way to make extra money and 100% legit. Most of us work with the designer at her studio (Carroll Gardens) or from home. You can work your own schedule, do it during your free time after work or on weekends. We just need some extra help!!!

It's great if you have experience crocheting with a 1.5mm hook.

Let me know if you're interested! Smiley
3  CROCHET / Crochet: Completed Projects / hamburger iphone cozy on: February 22, 2011 03:46:09 PM
a friend and i had a personal swap. she requested an iphone cozy so i made her this!
i hope she likes it! she should be getting it in the next couple days!

it's made entirely of acrylic yarn, 6mm eyes, on a 3.5mm hook.
i used safety eyes, so inside, they were cut and sanded, then concealed with soft felt.
couldn't find flat black eyes Sad

she's sending butter pecan cake bite truffles in exchange!  Tongue

5  CROCHET / Crochet: Completed Projects / earflap hat on: February 06, 2011 08:49:25 AM
my boyfriend and i have a hard time finding winter hats because our heads are so huge.
so at his request, i crocheted him an earflap hat. he prefers the look of the flaps pinned up and not dangling down.

i ended up making this pattern from scratch; just trial and error until we had the right fit. he loves it, and has worn it quite a few times this week. isn't it the best feeling when someone actually wears something you made?

i'll have to take a photo of the completed hat. but here's one of the progress photos.

6  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / headbands/earwarmers on: February 04, 2011 07:05:57 PM
does anyone know the widths these should be to fit an average sized head? someone told me 16"-18" in total length or 8"-9" halved. is this correct?

i would measure my own head, but my head is so huge that the ones i've made fall off my friends' heads! oy!
7  CROCHET / Amigurumi: Completed Projects / cocoa and donut friend on: February 04, 2011 06:27:41 PM
with some leftover yarn, felt, and large plastic eyes i never find reason to use, i made this duo. my friends made fun that cherries don't actually go on hot cocoa, but in my head it seemed right at the time. haha oh well!^________^

anyway, a little red couple in time for valentine's day!

8  CROCHET / Amigurumi: Completed Projects / a cupcake in brooklyn on: February 01, 2011 10:13:04 AM
this cupcake was made using red heart acrylic yarns with a 5.00mm needle, 6mm plastic safety eyes and black embroidery floss. i tried several cupcake patterns when i was first learning amigurumi but for some reason the ratio of cake and frosting never seemed just right. i ended up creating my own pattern and this is the end result Smiley

9  CROCHET / Amigurumi: Completed Projects / ice creams on: January 31, 2011 12:31:23 PM
