3  GLASS CRAFTS / Glass Crafts: Discussion and Questions / Re: Dremmel for cutting glass on: June 18, 2010 12:10:07 AM
You can cut glass with a diamond cut off wheel on a dremel. It's not your best option and you need to use water to keep the dust down. You do not want to breathe it.

A better option, less toxic, would be a normal glass cutter. It has been a long time ago, high school, but I think we had an attachment that held the cutter steady, rotate the bottle against the cutter and tap bottle bottom to make the cut.

Good Luck!

You are right and this can be the better option to opt so that to avoid glass dust gets into your lungs. Normal glass cutter would be the better option and this will be more helpful but, water is required here too.

Thanks

6  GLASS CRAFTS / Glass Crafts: Discussion and Questions / Re: Glass coasters on: May 31, 2010 06:28:30 AM
I imagine it will work.  The one thing that will need attention is that if you cut glass the edges will be very sharp.  You will want to heat it in a kiln to smooth the edges, or you will be getting cut.

Yes, you are right glass edges required to be smooth so that, there will not be a problem in getting your finger cut. Like, I have seen many designers who design different patterns of glass plates in round, square etc and it looks very unique too and what they do is, they cut the glass to give desired shape and then they make the edges cut in a shape that they want to have and after that they smooth out the edges to give that fine look which looks very attractive.

Thanks
