261  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Re: teal deer cross stitch pattern on: May 25, 2010 10:57:23 PM
I love this!  I want to make it and send it to my mom in response to all her long emails.  Of course I would also have to explain it to her.

(I kid, I kid.  I really love my mom and read all her emails!  I totally didn't send her a cross stitch that said "bite me" as a joke a few weeks ago!)

lol - as long as your mum has a good sense of humor Cheesy
i'm v pleased you like it! x

ok I think this looks great.
BUT could someone explain the meaning behind it to a poor non understanding Aussie?

it means "too long, didn't read".
there's an explanation on my blog if you're interested: http://penelopewaits.com/penny/?p=99

I love that deer! However, I think I need to make it fuchsia. And it needs to be on my wall. Tomorrow.

Great job! I'm such a dork, though. As much time as I spend on these old internets, I didn't get the tl:dr thing. I just thought "Oh how cute! A teal deer!"  Cheesy

ooh - i think it will look great in fuschia! do post pics, i'd love to see Cheesy

So cute! I just learned what this meant the other day when my brother replied tl dr to an email I had sent him (we work for the same company, it was a really long work involved email that I cc'd him on since he's a supervisor). He couldn't believe I didn't know what it meant since he thinks I live on Craftster (which is true). I had to explain that we were a nice forum and people wouldn't post that on someone's post lol!   I love all your other wall art too!

thanks, maremare!
it is definitely a bit of a cheeky message to give someone and should be gifted with caution Smiley
i love it how some things that never come up in your day-to-day life suddenly appear two or three times at once. it happens to me a lot for some reason... hmm!
269  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / teal deer cross stitch pattern on: May 25, 2010 06:21:48 PM
i designed this pattern a while back, and thought people might like to have a bash at it.

i'm assuming people actually know the basics of cross stitch, but if you are a beginner, the following links are helpful for getting started:
http://www.cross-stitch-centre.co.uk/acatalog/tutorial.html
http://www.metacafe.com/watch/785979/cross_stitch_in_5_minutes/

this pattern is easy for beginners because it only uses one colour and there isn't a lot of stopping and starting. it takes a couple of hours (but this will vary depending on experience and skill level).

i used DMC floss in the colour "991", which i think is a nice rich teal, but there is nothing stopping you from using another teal. you could even leave out the words and make it a brown deer or a pink or a red or a green deer! Smiley

here is the chart:

(obviously the squares are cross stitches and the lines are back stitches.)

i hope you like it! i'd love to see photos if you make it Smiley

p.s. this is my first post here on craftster. please let me know if there is anything i should change!

adorable idea. i love the colours you've chosen, and the use of lace. there's never enough lace used in jewelery imo! Smiley
