12  Soaps Soaps Soaps! in Bath and Beauty: Completed Projects by SensiblyTacky on: January 09, 2009 05:22:47 PM
I've been on a soap making rampage. Unfortunately, I haven't pictures of all the different types of soaps I've made, but I have been playing with a lightbox and different lighting to showcase some of my soaps! Heres a few I've got to show!

Lemon Sugar and Sweetgrass
This is actually my favourite scent. I have one bar left (out of 14) and I'm dying to make another batch!! This one everyone snatches up as fast as I can make it!
This one is very bubbly and perfectly moisturizing, not drying at all! Divine.

Pink Grapefruit
I'm a huuuuuuuge citrus fan. This smells _exactly_ like a fresh ripe grapefruit. You can even smell hints of the rind! Anchored with patchouli. It's amazing, but I realize only a handful of people are keen to the idea of the smell of grapefruit. I love it!!
This is more moisturizing than my normal recipe. It's very nice with small creamy bubbles.

Dolce and Gabanna's Light Blue
Peppermint + Vanilla (no artificial colour added! Yum! This scent is SO refreshing)

14  First CP Soaps! in Bath and Beauty: Completed Projects by SensiblyTacky on: July 22, 2008 08:17:24 AM
I finally made the plunge and decided to add yet another hobby to my list. Home made soaping. My house is full of ridiculous supplies and now smells of soap!

First batch!!

Sweet Peppermint + Lime
2 lb. batch
Ingredients: Olive oil, water, coconut oil, lard, lye, fragrance, love

It smells heavenly, and strong, but not overpowering. The lather bubbles are small but cleans very well. The soap is mild and cooling from the peppermint EO.

My Second batch is my favorite of the two as far as the lather goes.

Honeysuckle + Vanilla
2 lb. batch
Ingredients: Olive oil, coconut oil, palm oil, canola oil, water, lye, fragrance, happiness

It smells almost like a warm sugared vanilla with a sweet gentle floral note. The lather is incredible and the scent is soft after the wash. I love this soap!

I love Fiber Fridays! I have missed a whole bunch... I have a silly amount of yarn...

Summer Camp and Rainy Days
This yarn makes me smile!! It's soooo soft. It's fabulous fluffy merino spun thick and thin, now this was a blast to spin!! The colours remind me of summer camp and rainy days, but in a fond memory sort of way. I love it.
I have 4 matching skeins of 1 oz each.

Sweet and Homely
This was spun from one of my ugly batts! Or part of it... about 2 inches into my ugly batt. It was a ton of fun to spin. So much fabulous texture!!

/Seascape
4 oz of Icelandic wool

Alpaca Kisses
43 yards
2.0 oz
2 ply

Carbonated Sunshine
Named after Sunkist, which i fondly call "carbonated sunshine"
Hand Dyed Mill Ends from the Sheep Shed Studio
72 yards
1.8 oz

Chunky Soft Spun Mill Ends... so soft and delicious!!!

I have only two yarns to post this week. Things have been really busy/stressful/pre-occupied-with-other-things, but still fit in a little time to spin Wink

First we have:

Mantequilla!
Commercial Dyed 80/20 Merino/Silk
4.1 oz
267 yards total
It is ridiculously soft and silky... like butter Wink

Then we haaaave:

Mother Earth
Hand dyed with wiltons, spun, then over dyed because i hated it Tongue
Mill ends from the Sheep Shed
3.5 oz
meeeh, havent counted the yardage or tagged it yet... I will though.

I started knitting some fingerless mitts with my Autumn Kisses that I posted last time around and it is knitting up so nicely! It's my first legit project with my own handspun.

Everyone's yarns look so great!

I have one more to add today.

This one is called Autumn Kisses, it's really similiar to Saharan Symphony, but the colours are a bit warmer. Theres oranges, red, greens, and yellow as opposed to just different shades of brown.

Autumn Kisses
Mill end roving from the Sheep Shed
126 yards
1.3 oz

I have another bobbin full of the same dyelot, just havent set the twist yet. It should be 3 ounces total when im done Smiley

Okay! So I finally bought myself a wheel. After trying a few out, I purchased a brand new Ashford Traditional. I waited for what seemed like forever (a week), stained it, and waited some more to put it together.

Finally at last I have my wheel. I haven't stopped spinning since.

I have a lot to show but I haven't taken pictures of everything yet. Here's a few to start with..!!

Sarahan Symphony
MIll Ends from Sheep Shed Studio
Self-Dyed Hand Painted roving with wiltons
240 yds
2.5 oz
not sure of the wpi...

Sugar B(r)itches
Fine Merino Wool
Self-Dyed Handpainted roving with Kool-Aid Smiley
Not sure of the yardage... but theres 5 skeins total. I'm guessing around 200 yds.
3.9 oz total

Easter Promises hehe
From Spunky's FOTM Club I LOVE IT!!
170 yds.
4 oz.

Random fiber that i spun and hated to spin, but finished to practice anyway...
The gray is my first wheel spun... i think it's romney

the blue is god-knows-what, but i navajo plied it successfully Smiley

And finally a sneak peek to next week! some mill ends that i dyed myself...
It reminds me of a soggy spring! You know, like when it's just starting to get fresh and green but wont stop raining Smiley

We'll see how it spins up.

Now the thing is... I dont know what to do with all this yarn!  I don't intend on knitting even half of it!?
yikes.
Being a beginner spinner, im pretty proud, but i cant stop!

19  Re: Fiber Friday 11/30/07 in Spinning: Completed Projects by SensiblyTacky on: November 30, 2007 07:01:51 PM
Okay, so I've been a long time knitter and a long time lurker on the craftster forums. I've never posted a single project of mine, mainly because I give them away before I get to taking pictures. I'm a very last minute kinda gal and I'm always time crunching before present time!

SO, you all have completely inspired me! Spinning had never even occured to me until i wandered around these forums and saw all the lovely things you guys were pumping out. I WAS ON THE _EDGE_ OF MY SEAT waiting for new homemade yarns to appear!

Oh I had to try. I caught wind of an annual fiber festival here in my area, so naturally I drove there and dove right in. I bought some roving to practice on and two spindles to try my hand at spinning. I sort of already had an idea of what I was looking for from all the information you guys constantly give!

Here is my very first spin attempt. It is some very inexpensive Romney wool that was dyed an icky green, but it was really cheap and supposedly good for beginniners. I only spun a few yards, but I was hooked! I immediately tried my hand at kool-air dying and tried to dye over the green. It's really a nice purple with hints of cherry and green, but it looks brownish here.

Here is my second spin attempt, not enough to be a real yarn, but a little thicker and plied with a white yarn I had on hand. I was lazy and was way too eager to try plying to spin another single. This is the same Romney wool as the first, and the same green. The kool-aid dyed right over the first one!

AND FINALLY: here is my very first yarn!

It is 6 oz. of Merino wool I purchased at a local yarn shop here in town. It is sooooo soft and squishy!! I wanted to experiment with colour changes in the singles and then plying. I'm so pleased with the results!

I'm sorry for the blurry pictures. a) It's dark outside and b) I'm impatient

You guys are an awesome inspiration! Keep on spinning!
