2  Jason's Scarf in Weaving: Completed Projects by SensiblyTacky on: March 29, 2010 07:52:24 AM
Awhile back I made a scarf for my dear friend Jason. He is an amazing guy and I wanted to make something for him so I decided on a hand woven scarf.

I chose several natural coloured alpaca fleeces and scoured the fiber. I cleaned and carded the fleeces then spun them up by colour. I spun fiber up to about a worsted weight 2-ply yarn, maybe a little under worsted, then wove it on my Ashford rigid heddle loom

5 alpaca fleeces handspun in their natural colours woven into a lovely plaid.

I'm so pleased with how it turned out!

5  Fiber Friday - June 19th 2009 in Spinning: Completed Projects by SensiblyTacky on: June 19, 2009 07:20:03 AM
Hello Babies!!

Happy Fiber Friday!!

I haven't been spinning as much as I'd like to lately. I've got a number of excuses in my back pocket ready to go, my numero uno excuse is that I live in south Texas and it's waaaay too hot to function right now. Summer is going to be a tough one!

I've been trying to perfect my techniques with making consistent 'proper yarn' as I call it. They take ages, yo!

Here's my work so far:

New Day
207 yards of corriedale wool
Hand dyed by Amy King from my Spunky Fiber Club subscription. It's like christmas every month when I get this stuff in the mail!

Soul Windows
corriedale wool and nylon
I do not like this photo at all, I will have to redo it and check back with ya'll later. I do however love the yarn! This photo really doesn't do it justice. It's my first really 'proper' three-ply and it's so even (for me) it makes me giggle. I keep thinking "oh hey! I made that!"

I don't think I can knit these just yet, I love looking at them too much, so I hung them on my wall Smiley

Happy Fiber Friday ya'll!

With love from Texas,
xoxo Talia

Here is the results of my dye'ing day a couple weeks back!

All the fiber is from the Sheep Shed Studio and hand dyed by me!

7  Re: Fiber Friday 4/10/09 in Spinning: Completed Projects by SensiblyTacky on: April 10, 2009 05:56:56 AM
I've spun lots this week and last but haven't caught up with pictures. So I've only got one picture this friday.

This fiber is "Myrtle" from Spunky Electic's Fiber club! (YAY!)

4 ounces of natural brown BFL overdyed with deep burgundy, blue, and green. All the colours you would want in a plaid shirt!

I spun it up into a worsted-chunky weight. This yarn is soooo soft and really sproingy.
140 yards.

8  Re: Ashford loom versus Kromski loom in Weaving: Discussion and Questions by SensiblyTacky on: March 23, 2009 01:15:17 PM
Tsuki,

Here are some shots of my loom hanging on my wall. Nothing special, but just so you could see how I conserved a bit of space. My fiber stash is inside the hamper, the basket on top is full of delicious finished handspun, my banjo to the left, aaaaand of course the loom. Smiley

9  Fiber Friday!! 3-20-09 in Spinning: Completed Projects by SensiblyTacky on: March 20, 2009 07:34:28 AM
Happy Fiber Friday!!!!!!! Let me kick this off!!

It has been a busy week! Here's what I've been up to:

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Baby Bird
73 yds
Hand dyed by me
Superwash Merino

This stuff is disgustingly soft! This is the second softest skein I've ever spun out before. Second only to the skein I spun out of pure silk. The softness of this one almost doesn't make sense! I just want to roll around it in and giggle!! ... I mean uh... look over there!!!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Halelujah!
232 yds
Merino, Silk, Bamboo, Firestar, Angelina

I got this loooovely fiber at a local fiber festival a few months back! The Kid n Ewe Fiber Festival. I look forward to this festival every year! I'm lucky to have it so close by. The colour of these singles was somewhat hard to photograph, simply because it's so sparkly. It tricks the camera!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Concord
Merino + Tussah
I forgot to measure the yardage. Doh!!

This is my favorite colour this week. This colour is absolutely decadent! The merino and tussah make a luxurious blend in these soft fluffy spun singles. I don't know if I'll keep this one for myself or sell it off. Hmm.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Eclipse
123 yards
4 oz.
100% hand painted Romney from Spunky Eclectic fiber club - August 2008 installment

I love working with Romney but I never know what to do with the yarn. This was a dream to spin!! It practically spun itself. Left to myself I would not have chosen the colours, but they ended up spinning up nicely. I started it on my spindle and then transfered it to the wheel when I was reminded how much I don't love spindle spinning.

Bieow Bieow is pleased!

xoxo

10  Re: Who's Got An Ashford?? in Spinning: Completed Projects by SensiblyTacky on: March 18, 2009 07:43:42 PM
Me! Me! Oh I have an ashford.

I've had it for about... a year and a half I suppose. I can't quite remember when I got the wheel really. I would have shared her earlier but I just got a camera yesterday! Yay more fiber fridays!!

This is Doreen. Named after an Old 97's song.
