11  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / yoko ono embroidered quote tote & embroidered peacock tote on: July 10, 2006 08:42:54 AM
Well - in all honesty, I know the lyrics to "Listen, the Snow is Falling" more from Galaxie 500's cover than I do from Yoko Ono's original - but you gotta give credit where it's due, right?

The snowflake tote is inspired by that beautiful song and features two sides of hand-embroidery - one lyrics in a pretty pink - the other varied snowflakes in tones of silver, pink, and white. The inside is lined with the pink fleece that the bag rests on.

The peacock tote is single sided and features a hand-embroidered/hand-designed peacock feather.
The inside of the tote features a little pouch lined with felt - perfectly sized for an ipod, or keys, wallet, phone, etc.
I embellished the strap that holds the pouch to the bag with a vintage rhinestone button for a little flair.
The lining is a leopard type print done in turquoise and a brownish green.

13  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / William S. Burroughs Embroidered Quote Tote on: June 23, 2006 10:05:38 AM
I started with a black canvas tote that I bought at AC Moore and went to town embellishing it with an embroidered quote in red from William S. Burroughs and a design that I created featuring mechanical gears done in silver embroidery floss, silver seed beads and sequins.

I then lined it with this awesome white and red polka dotted cotton lining and voila - a girly tote with a bit of moxie.
A tote that rallies against uniformity!

WOO HOO!

14  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: General / Handbeaded window screen cards on: June 16, 2006 05:48:54 AM
I just made this card set - using soft black window screening and pretty glass seed beads.
The window screening is cut in a circular pattern and bunches of pretty glass seed beads are sewn to the card in a random fashion.
The card edges are scalloped and framed against complimentary cards stock.
Each design can be removed from the card and framed after it's given.

15  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: General / handsewn polka dots & birds card set on: June 12, 2006 07:22:59 AM
here's my newest design:

handcut birdie sitting on a circle of polka dot cardstock that is surrounded by a complimentary circle of cardstock and framed with a scalloped edge piece of cardstock.
I handsewed all of the sequins and glass seed beads to the circular border.
what do you think?

16  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / handbeaded felt cuff on: May 29, 2006 07:45:27 AM
I was browsing in AC Moore and stumbled across their clearance section - where I found these "bracelet bands": bendable metal strips - packed three or four to the set, they were only 50 cents!!
So I stocked up, came home and decided to make a beaded cuff. First I took my window screening (soft, black and meshy) and cut a strip that would fit the width of the bracelet. I think cut a piece of lavender felt that would be wide enough to wrap the entire cuff and left enough to enclose the ends.
I then handstitched the mesh to the felt and then sewed glass seed beads of various colors to the felt (on top of the mesh). I pinned the felt together on the back and then handstitched it closed and handstitched the ends. I added small, vintage shell buttons to the ends of the cuff to give it a finished look.
Here's the end result:

I'm going to try it with different colored felt, and might cut some of the metal strips into a length suitable for necklaces.
The cuff straightens out fully after it is bent which I also like - you could wear it low or higher on the arm depending on your mood.

17  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / sweetheart of the rodeo handbeaded tote bag on: May 22, 2006 06:02:47 AM
well after a long weekend spent sewing tiny seed beads to a giant tote, I have finished it! YAY!
i was inspired by the byrds album "sweetheart of the rodeo" and decided to interpret the cover in a newer, modern way.

I handbeaded the cowboy boot with hundreds of glass seed beads. Each one is sewn singularly to the tote and then designed and embroidered a floral garland around it to add a bit of whimsy and feminine flair. I'm in love with this bag now.

18  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: General / handsewn cupcake card - maybe invitation on: May 20, 2006 08:46:38 AM
I've been trying to create some new unique cards - especially invitation worthy designs that might end up being sets.
This is my newest creation: a cupcake card - all handsewn with beads and sequins on a handcut cupcake.

19  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / sequined film camera tote bag on: May 17, 2006 11:51:38 AM
the obsession is definitely cemented.
after the godard masculin feminin tote, i was inspired to create something purely graphic (without a quote) yet still inspired by classic films

here's the newest tote: hand-sequined film camera tote bag

what do you think?...anyone else doing sequin designs?? i'd love to see any that are out there!!!

20  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / Jean Luc Godard - Masculin Feminin "quote tote" on: May 15, 2006 08:02:55 PM
So i've been going tote crazy since I posted my last one and here's the newest - inspired by my obsession with French New Wave cinema, this quote "Il n'y a aucune fille typique" translates to "There is no typical girl". It's taken from Jean Luc Godard's film Masculin Feminin - a film countdown number appears while this is uttered (one of 15 throughout the film) this one has always been my favorite.

I sewed everything onto a cotton canvas tote - each sequin and bead by hand and then embroidered the quote.
My fingers hurt!
