21  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Discussion and Questions / Re: Drilling shells on: September 15, 2005 04:18:17 AM
I put some holes in small white clam shell type shells by holding a sharp pointy tool, kind of like a small screwdriver with just a point on the end, and then hitting it lightly with hammer. I was amazed the shells didn't break, but they were pretty sturdy. Sorry I don't know the name of the tool, i just fished it out of husband's tool chest! Good luck!

That is really neat! I really like it! Makes me wish I still had old family slides....hmmm where are those? remember sitting in my grandparent's living room looking at slides from mexico and other far away places. A lot of possibilties based on what slides you use.I am liking more and more re-using items that would otherwise go to waste....and how beautiful that can be! Great job!

Thanks, that was really helpful....seems like something I could actually manage to do! I will post a pic if/when I get it going!

Thanks everyone! I have thought about the mirror idea... i have seen them in craft stores and i bet i could just glue it on...doesn't seem that heavy. d, I would love to see your wreath....have you gone to the help section or is it just been difficult?

Thanks! I used a straw wreath and stuck half a toothpick into the cork and then put some tacky glue on it and stuck it in. Some needed some extra tacky glue to stay put. It does smell good! I would just kind of zone out while doing the same thing over and over and all of a sudden I was like, ooo, I'm done!

Hi clothing craftsters, I am wondering if you can give me some advice. I don't sew...although my mother has some skills in this area and I have this dress that I want to transform.

I want to make it more of an empire waist dress and strapless....kind of like this:

It seems like it would not be difficult, however, as I mentioned I have no clue and can't sew. So, before I enlist her help I thought I would see if you all think it would work. Thanks!
28  BATH AND BEAUTY / Bath and Beauty: Discussion and Questions / Re: hair advice please on: September 05, 2005 03:02:23 PM
I think your hair would look really cute with some long layers! It is at a good length to do that. It is kind of at that in-between length so don't cut it now. I know what you mean about having your hair up...I like how my hair looks up, but I have a headache after about one hour so I just don't do it. This may come from years of trauma inflicted upon me by cosmetic industry which forced us to wear hair up.  Smiley
Post a pic with the results!

Here's one of my newest creations.....what do you all think? It didn't sell at the show this past weekend but I got a bunch of nice comments on it. Also a lot of people asking if I drank all of that wine (no, did not  Wink ) It is really huge and hard to lug around. I am thinking this will sell closer to the holidays, perhaps a good gift for someone who likes wine....I will probably make more for gifts as well.

Muaaaaha ha!  It's mine...ALL MINE!  Just kidding around.  No, for real, I just bought it and I can't wait to hang it on my front door.  I was totally eyeballing the wreaths with the river rocks and beach stones, but I really think my husband would have the big one if I started bringing home more stuff.  Beautiful work...I'm sure I'll be back!

Awesome! Thanks!

I like it just the way it is. In all its simple glory. Anything else would just distract from the copper.

Thank you.
