11  CANADA / Ontario / Pay by the Pound in TO/Scarborough on: November 04, 2006 09:33:16 PM
Can anyone tell me if there is one? I moved here a few months ago, so I don't know if there is still one or if it closed. I was told the one downtown closed and the only one left is in Scarborough. I just spent a few hours yesterday going to Scarborough to try and find it. I don't know if I was just given unclear instructions, but the whole trip proved to be unsuccessful.

I've tried to find info on the net, but no such luck. If anyone can help me with some directions, that would be wonderful! Thanks.

Hey maritimah, I'll go with you. I'm fairly new to Toronto too, and although I've met some great people, I haven't met very many crafty folks yet.

This event looks awesome albeit overwhelming. I went to the Clothing Show, and that was overwhelming. It'll definitely help if I bring a friend and a snack this time around!
14  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Paper Crafts: Discussion and Questions / Re: zines...where to start? on: October 04, 2006 09:07:37 PM
One little handy dandy book I found which is a great DIY zine resource was "Stolen Sharpie Revolution." It talks about everything from layout to how to make paper to silkscreening to distributing your zine and lists a bunch of distros at the end.

I got my copy at a craft sale, but I'm sure you can order if from Microcosm Publishing, a terriffic distro based in Portland. Just do a quick google on them. Good luck!
15  CANADA / Ontario / Fave fabric stores in Toronto? on: September 11, 2006 07:48:17 PM
I just moved to Toronto, and I'm feeling mega-overwhelmed because there are just so many fabric stores. I don't even know where to begin to shop! Anyone have any favourites or recommendations as to where to pick up cheap fabric and notions? Thanks!

I'm Michelle, originally from Edmonton, but relocated to Toronto. I actually arrived yesterday after a somewhat traumatic arrival (we got into a car accident just blocks from my house!) I sew and knit, plus other crafty things like making collages, magnets, glass etchings...

I was wondering if anyone knows of a craft/knitting circle? I'm new to the city and don't know very many people and would love to meet some like-minded individuals in the crafting community.

If your friend cooks or bakes and you can sew, you can make her a 1950s-style half-apron. I made my friend one and then filled the pockets with baking stuff like spatulas and wooden spoons and stuff. I modeled mine after Laurasaurus': http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=38097.0

Wow! Hey that's great, but is it a Chinese woman or a Japanese woman? It looks like she's wearing a kimono, or?

It's a great little mag, that's for sure. I'm supposed to have an article published in the march issue about neck ties. I haven't seen it yet. They're supposed to send me a copy, so if you've seen this month's already, send me some feedback!
