22  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing in General: Discussion and Questions / Making christmas stockings on: November 17, 2010 02:23:34 PM
Hey I'm going to make Christmas stockings for my boyfriend, his son and I. I haven't sewn in so long, I'm going to do it by hand because my mother gave away her sewing machine (crazy lady).
My inspiration is the one on the far right without the bells.

From http://www.marthastewart.com/article/jingle-bell-stockings

They've used felt and I'm wondering if it is a specific type of felt, I've personally never used felt before. I noticed in the comments somebody had issues with using hole punches on the felt.
How would you create the large scallops without scallop scissors? I'm thinking of just drawing them on with the grid.
I'm also I little confused by the cuff instructions, possibly just the way its been worded and how I'd imagine doing it myself, I'm such a novice.

If there is any tips or help you can give me I'd greatly appreciate it.
Thanks Smiley

Thanks, it's hanging in my lounge at the moment which is pretty dark, doesn't at all do it justice.

Oh thanks guys Smiley
I'm starting to go to craft markets with my cousin so I'm looking forward to seeing how my paintings go. Just waiting for some nice weather, the last 4 weekends have been horrible lol.

Sorry I forgot to mention this is an acrylic painting on gallery wrapped canvas. I can't remember the exact size but its about 20 inch by 16 inch.

I first start with painting a background on the canvas, then I paint the pattern which is kind of like doodling. It's an extremely slow process and I'm such a perfectionist I find myself spending hours trying to make sure every shape and line is right lol.

Hey this is my latest larger paintings. I created this for my first art show (hence called Inception). I'm really happy with how it turned out.

Thanks for looking Smiley

I love the style of this piece and he's super cute. I could easily see this imagine being created into a whole variety of things.

Oh cool thanks, I think I'm going try to make them thinner, the ones I made I used jumbo crayons so I'm hoping that'll make the ugly bit less noticeable. I know I shouldn't worry too much, its for a 1.5yr old so it's not like he's going care. I'm just such a perfectionist lol.
29  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / Melting Crayon problem on: October 25, 2010 03:24:14 AM
Hey, so I thought make cool melted crayons would be easy and a great gift for my partners son but I'm finding when I put the broken crayons (in a silicone muffin tray) they split. Like the way floats to the top, it makes the crayons look super ugly Sad
I'm wondering if anybody else has had this issue, could it just be the cheap crayons I bought (ok well they're cheap for what I found, $2 for 9 jumbo crayons seems a rip off compared to bargains you wonderful people get).
I'm really disappointed, I've seen so many people have such great success and was hoping to make some as a xmas gift, at this rate it'll have been cheaper to buy nice crayons lol.

If you have any tips or help it would be greatly appreciated Smiley

Hmmm I considering doing this, though I fear I'd never get it done. I'm quite a slow artist and my artworks take quite a lot of time to do.
