1  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Party Planning / Re: Cowboys and Indians Party... on: March 13, 2006 10:23:26 AM
I *love* the vase idea! Sooo cute. That game also sounds hilarious. Still trying to figure out invitations.

Anyway, the general age of the group is about 25. So pony rides are out.  Cheesy

Anyone ever buy/rent haybails before? I was thinking of using those because depending on the weather, my grass is not sparse, but because of the walnut trees (I have 14) and walnuts in my yard, the grass I have is super thin & folding chairs would just sink.

So, I have until May to plan this shindig so it'll be nice enough outside to use my fire pit, my outdoor dance floor, set up a horseshoes competition, and - if it's warm enough - water pistols.

I'm thinking it's a bring your own meat - or meatless imitation meat. I'm pretty certian there will be baked beans, corn on the cob, and saspirillas or rootbeer floats depending on how warm or fancy I get.

I'm thinking there will be a game or two, and I'm thinking there should be some sort of capture the flag/indian princess/school marm in the dark involving flashlights...and then an ingenious game I've heard of called ice skating, but renamed barn raising that involves a piece of spagetti and two strangers getting awfully close.

I'm looking for ideas for out door decor, more food ideas, and certianly costumes/invitation/a way to talk someone into wearing a barrel with suspenders and boxers. Oh, and possibly an idea for preg_replace('/(.{19})/', '$1 ', 'entertainment...like'), should I get a projecter and put up a John Wayne pic or should I find someone who can bang a drum or play a fiddle?

Let's see if this works...and if it does, it's just a taste. And sadly, I didn't have any pictures of the spread, which was actually pretty hilarious.

Yeah, or if you were looking for a moment like that, just head to Zio's everyday on your lunch break, and eventually he'll see it.

So, was it Nickelodeon or Disney that used to have the shorts like "The Cat Came Back?" My family still sings that song and it always stirs up pictures in my head of that guy trying to kill his giant, fat, white cat...

Well, I did one of these to see if I could get all of my friends in the same room. It was a blast. Anyway, we had a ton of folks show up. I did the invitations backstage pass style with laminate and lanyards (God bless Nobbies & Kinkos). We had a GIANT barrel of cheese puffs that was left by the end of the night with just a fourth of what had originally been in it. (Gross.) We did make your own peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, little debbie snack cakes, the seperated m&ms (which we still have blue and orange left), marachino cherries, and bottled water with a BYOB on the invitation.

We had a blast doing an impromptu music video to Bohemian Rhapsody and played a home-made version of Encore. A multitude of us swing dance, so we had a little dancing to some a little rock'n'roll (think Foo Fighters "See You", anything early Beatles, plenty of Otis Redding, or just about anything on Bleu's "Redhead" album). I had a goofy karaoke machine instead of movies...actually though, I did end up showing an old home movie. I know, rockstar. The drunken karaoke was amazing, right until my sister got sloppy and popped in "Wind Beneath My Wings." Bah.

My sister and I hosted as Wayne and Garth (she Garth and I Wayne) and the guest list included but didn't hold exclusive to: The White Stripes, Prince, Frank Sanatra, Madonna, Tori Amos, a lone Village Person, Britney & Kevin, Alanis, Johnny Cash, Bjork, and Tom Jones (who won best costume).

The pd showed up - I knew no one was likely to get arrested - we had Tom Jones playing on the radio at the time...I mean, being arrested for playing "What's New Pussycat?" too loud? Pah! & we had a couple of folks try to walk in. The looks on their faces were HIGH-larious.

If you want to see a couple pictures, I have them up on my blog: http://www.beckstraordinary.blogspot.com
