3  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / WInter Holiday Card Swap on: November 01, 2011 08:59:49 PM

Is anyone interested in participating in a holiday card swap?  it could be either one card to exchange with another or if you want a bit bigger of a swap we could do a set of holiday cards for the receiver to send out to friends and family.

We could even do an option in the questionnaire for either one or a set of cards?

I thought this would be a nice small swap that people could slip in before getting wrapped up in the holiday crafty season but could also help in getting one more thing crafted for holiday time.

I could organize...and if there is enough interest I would like to start sign ups as soon as possible so that we can get crafting sooner.

What do you think?

4  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / Messenger Bags with gussets plus 1 tote on: April 18, 2011 08:26:06 AM
I have recently been making bags left and right for swaps...I started with the tutorial for messenger bag with gussets (http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=2684.0)and then went from there...

First I made a test one with some scraps I had lying around, the lining is a men's dress shirt and the outside is an upholstery sample supplemented with some solid black twill where I didn't quite have enough fabric:

It came out pretty nice, I decided to opt out of the magnetic clasp and I had one pocket inside, which after some use I realized needed a little reinforcement stitching and some more little pockets.

Then I made a final copy for clumsy_momma in the Reading Swap:

I extended the front flap for this one, stenciled it with a portrait of Albert Binet (a noted psychologist who was also interested in handwriting analysis which is also an interest of my partner) and added an extra interior pocket.

After this, I was so familiar with the pattern that I decided to make it into a tote for my "The Office" swap partner.  She wanted a bag covered in that's what she said quotes so I used the same pattern but removed the front flap and fashioned two straps about 22" in length and attached them between the lining and the exterior just as you would attach the strap in the original tutorial but obviously on the front and back rather than on the gussets.

I ironed on the quotes using dark iron on transfer paper before I assembled the bag, and of course even more interior pockets for this one.  (You can never have too many pockets right? Smiley )

I hope you enjoyed my plethora of messenger bags.

C&C welcome

6  Archive of Past Craftster Challenge Entries / CHALLENGE 52 ENTRIES / Flannel Plaid Day at the Beach! on: July 07, 2010 06:30:51 PM
So i decided on the first day of entries that this challenge would be my first craftster challenge and my first craftster post.  But boy did I wait til nearly the last minute.

I live on an island so it was hard to find a sheet that I could use that wasn't wretched or cost hundreds of dollars so...I ended up with this:

It is a plaid flannel top sheet that I found for only three dollars among all the faded, bleach stained sheets at our very tiny hospital thrift shop.

I put together shorts, a swim suit, and a skirt.  I have only ever made skirts and done hems before this challenge so I decided to really branch out with the shorts and swimsuit.  I didn't use any patterns I just kinda went at the sheet with scissors and an idea.

On to the photos:

Swimsuit: Kinda reminds me of burberry's print; I used some red scrap fabric I had for the ties and the liner.
This was a lot easier to put together than I even thought possible.

Shorts:Ta front closure and banded cuffs and waist.

Side View: to give you an idea of how bloomer-y they are.

And Finally the Skirt: It is very full and has slash pockets on either side made with the red fabric that trimmed the swimsuit.  It is super comfy and also has a tab closure but on the side.

Thanks to my boyfriend for taking the shots for me while we were at the beach (he is that other shadow).

Hope you like it.

C & C welcome Smiley
