21  Fairy Poppet, with Mushroom trinket box (with tutorial link) in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by kstaron on: March 13, 2009 05:50:51 PM
I made a poppet and accessories for the poppet swap not long ago and thought I should post them.

I used recycled cashmere for the poppet and the Elenore pattern. I also attached purple poseable wings on the back.

I also made a flower wand with felt scraps and ribbon and a mushroom trinket box for the fairy to put all her goodies in.

If you are interested how I made the mushroom I wrote a tutorial on my blog:
http://lifeprettified.blogspot.com/2009/03/mushroom-madness-with-tutorial.html

I made two petal dresses and two robes: here are a couple of pics of the clothes.

22  Pastel Egg Wreath in Easter by kstaron on: March 07, 2009 12:59:08 PM
Inspired by a wreath with a tree shape in the center  saw on the tree swap gallery  I grabbed some willow brances and decided to make my own...Only I didn't have twine so I grabbed the verigated pastel novelty yarn I had on my desk and started working. The more I worked, the less it looked like a tree and more like a big decorated egg, so I went with it and ended up with this.

Happy Spring!

23  Re: Witch/Wicca/Pagan Swap Round 10 Gallery in The Swap Gallery by kstaron on: March 07, 2009 06:38:24 AM
I got all my goodies for Feywalker.

My fabulous new altar cloth with cool fabrics representing the four elements

A closeup of the greenman pendant, greenman stone and turtle. The turtle has the symbol for Mercury on its back.

And a hand bound journal with the tree of life on the cover for my spells:

And as if that wasn't a enough she made several things for my daughter:
A stack of pagan related flash cards

A pink goddess doll (I don't know how I forgot to get a close up picture of that) and a fabulous fleece blanket representing the four elements and their directions.

Here's a closeup of the blanket appliqu:

And as soon as I let her free of the high chair this is what my little Sprite did:

She loves, loves, loves this blanket. She carried it around the house (not a small feat considering it's size) she has wanted to go to bed/nap with it ever since she's got it. It's her new all time favorite thing!

Everything was just wonderful!

24  Re: Poppet Swap Rd 3 Gallery! in The Swap Gallery by kstaron on: March 07, 2009 06:29:16 AM
Ok, O received lots of poppety goodness from SewHappySue. I actually had to put everything aside for a day or so as I was so overwhelmed with her talent and generosity. (Well that and the toddler was WAY too interested, she seems to know when things are for her.)

First we have the adorable little poppet, Claret, sporting her pink dress and mary janes. I love the needle sculpting around the mouth and the bright red hair.(Theres also panties but she dead refused to let me take a pic.

I love how the dress leaves room for the tail and looks so pretty on her:

She wanted to show off her other dress and shoes too. Isn't she cute in Tinkerbell fashion?

Then there was a great thump in the box and Claret looked at me and told me forgot, her pet penguin came along too. And she brought some toys with her as well. (My daughter had managed to pass by the box twice and both times went straight for the penguin. (These are going to be gifts for her so its good to know she wants them.)

Her little travel case of toys included tiny blocks, two little dolls, a blue's clues dog and spongebob:

And then there was the rest of the box stuffed with supplies!
A partially made poppet all ready to be sewn up (She also included a pattern if I want to make even more little friends.):

Lots of wonderful fabric for both poppet skin and clothes, and a bag load of gorgeous trims:

A whole bunch of material for doll hair! (I love the little afro type hair.)

And containers full of doll joints, buckles, trim, eyes, eyelashes, wings and even foam sheets and chopsticks, all for making more dolls.  I kept thinking as I went through it "I need a new drawer in my craft room now just for all this fabulous doll stuff!"

I love it all, it was more than I ever hoped for!

25  Re: scarf/shall/wrap! february - new year's resolution in Craftalongs by kstaron on: February 22, 2009 02:46:19 PM
I finished my Ravenclaw scarf!

Link to post: http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=293543.0

first time with both color changes and with duplicate stitch. I love duplicate stitch and really need to find more places to use it. It's great! I love this scarf. Nice and warm. I find myself feeling like a hogwarts professor is going to approach me any minute. ('excuse me ma'am, but your letter got a bit lost...)

26  hogwarts scarf: ravenclaw, movie colors -link to pattern in Knitting: Completed Projects by kstaron on: February 22, 2009 02:41:01 PM
I'm so proud of this scarf. It's my first time with color changing and duplicate stiching. I used the hogwarts pattern on atypically knit here http://knit.atypically.net/scarves/azkaban/pattern.shtml

Here's a closeup of the duplicate stitich, bars, and fringe.

I used a dust blue wool blend in DK weight and moonlight mohair in the silver colorway. I was going to use bronze glitterspun but I got the mohair for $1.50 a skein at big lots and couldn't pass it up.

The only changes to the pattern I made were to only do 10 pairs of bars not 14. I knit really loose and this was more based on when I ran out of yarn. Even with only 10 it's still a 6 1/2 foot scarf.  I added a little bit of the mohair yarn into the fringe as well.

27  Re: Shape, Color and Texture R3 GALLERY in The Swap Gallery by kstaron on: February 22, 2009 02:35:06 PM
Get my goodies from rira!  I plan on using these as gifts for my family so had her work cut out for her.

1)Fuzzy - a soft fuzzy purple and pink colored football with beads inside so it makes noise when it shakes from my little Sprite. She's going to love this.

2)Purple - 2 fantastic pairs of earrings.  I know my MIL will love the ones with the Celtic knotwork! I think my SIL will think the other bonus pair is awesome.

3) Star - a "star"wars lightsaber keychain for my husband. Note the red saber (he's into the dark side DH could stand for Darth Husband)

Thank you so much rira!

28  Re: 2009 Holiday Handmade Crusade :: Formerly the "All Year Christmas Craft-a-lo in Craftalongs by kstaron on: February 15, 2009 04:08:52 PM
I usually get my hubby a gift certificate to his comic shop. Since I can't make the gift certificate, I thought I could make a holder that would stand out.

I used various comics that he reads and ones that just looked interesting. More to come on how to make it on my blog.

I think I'm going to add a button or something to keep it closed better, but I'm pretty happy with how it turned out.

29  Re: 2009 Color Craftalong in Craftalongs by kstaron on: February 13, 2009 09:07:42 AM
For February I did a couple of things: I reconned an old red sweater and made 4 gift bags, one for dvd/game size, one for tshirt size and two gift card size. (For some reason forgot to take picture.Roll Eyes  And now a picture!

And I added stripes to the garish gold shiny thing on my red shoes. I bought the shoes for $5 after the holidays. The only thing I didn't like was the horrid glaring blob of shiny faux metal.  I laid down some tape and painted over the oval with red nail polish. I love them now!

30  Re: Sweat Shoppe Swap Round 17 Gallery in The Swap Gallery by kstaron on: February 13, 2009 08:51:38 AM
I officially have all my swap goodies!

Clockwise from top left: gray fingerless gloves (from cabin fever) , bird fluffy stuffy (from gothchics), zoo animal magnets(from freesytle), beaded bookmark(also from freestlye), and 2 fruit loop soaps (from flashleyashley)!

I've been wearing the gloves out for walks. They are my new favorites for going out. Perfect for this weather and I can still put on my Sprite's mittens too when she takes them off.

My cats are goingto love to pounce on that bird, it's so soft and fluffy...now to soak it in catnip.

The zoo animals are so cute, my Sprite is going to love them!  She's just starting to play with magnets on the refrigerator.

I'm giving the bookmark to the librarian in the family, She will adore it. I was really tempted to keep it for myself, it's so pretty.

And the fruit loop soaps are just too adorable. I'm going to use them as part of a gift for both my Sprite (she'll try to eat it), and my Sister in Law who I'm sure will get a kick out of it.
