11  Craft Swaps / ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED / Re: My Favorite Character Plushie/Stuffie Swap Sign-ups 8/04 - 8/15/10 on: August 07, 2010 11:49:10 AM
I just joined and I'm very excited about this swap! I love stuffies/amigurumis of all kinds. Seriously, you should see my collection of all things stuffed. It's insane! My kids have begun to follow in my footsteps, too.  Cheesy Cheesy

I think for super detailed things, it's best for them to be big (at least in crochet). If you're going to crochet lots of different pieces or clothes to make the character look like it should, it's hard to fit all that in a 5 inch space! I usually like to make my ami's at least 12 inches or so. That's not saying that I wouldn't enjoy an adorable 5 inch stuffie, though! I think as long as it's made with lots of love, it will be great!

Just checking in!

I have one medium item finished, working on another. I have another very cool something planned that I can't wait to start! It's going to be awesome (if I do say so myself). My partner couldn't be more fun to craft for!

In other yarnie news, I went on a huge yarn shopping trip yesterday. Very fun! I got a few things to use on this swap, too. Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy

I finished the first medium item today and I love it! I'll definitely be making one for myself soon.  Grin Grin

Now I get to start working with a pattern that I've been interested in for a while. Such fun!

Oh god I'm on take 3 for amigurumi hair!!! Anyone able to help?? I've tried crocheting a bouffant and embroidering which worked out in a sticky fabric glue mess and was quickly unstitched, I've tried a felt sewn bouffant which looked dreadful hence I am not a sewist in this swap lol and now I'm on to the hook and thread method which is SO time consuming, if anyone has any ideas for how to do amigurumi hair easily please PM me!!!

Threading it through piece by piece works and looks best! It is certainly NOT quick, but well worth the time in my opinion.
There is also that method where you leave the top of the head open, then make a thick tassel with your hair-colored yarn and sew it into the hole. I've never tried it, though.

I've finished my first thing for momijimommy!

I'm so excited and curious!

I just got caught up on the last 14 pages of discussion. Whew!

I adore my partner! There is a huge list sitting right beside me of things that I plan on doing. Now the test is to see how many of those things I can finish before time to send. I also got to shop for some super soft beautifully colored yarn, which is always good!

What are  other people hoping to knit/sew/crochet for this swap?

I'm hoping to sew either a purse/bag, an apron, or oven mitts....

I would like to make anything, honestly. I love a challenge!

My favorite things to make are bags (especially granny square bags), slippers, potholders, hats, wearables, amigurumis, lapghans, etc.

It's just so much fun to have a "stranger" to craft for, especially since I think everyone in my family is FULL of crocheted items. My kids will always take a good amigurumi, though.  Cheesy Grin

I used to sew a lot of historical costume type stuff/corsets for fun, and got so burnt out. I never really made purses or potholders or anything with fusing either, so I get really impressed by the better-than-professional stuff people on here make! If I had a good craft space I might do more, but for now I'm not motivated to do anything difficult.  Plus you can knit while holding a baby!!

Knitting while holding a baby? Now THAT'S impressive!

I'm officially IN! I wasn't sure I'd be able to secure a spot before I got feedback for my first swap, but I did and now I'm super excited to get craftin'!  Grin Grin

Now I'm off to add some sewn things to my wist.

I received for gerbilgal a few days ago. Thank you SO much!! We love it all.

Sorry it took so long for me to get this posted. I have no excuse other than that I was quite tired the past few days. The kids have wanted to be in the pool and it's so HOT! The heat tends to sort of wipe me out. hah. Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy

So here's what we received:

Slippers for both my son and daughter

As well as this incredibly gorgeous shrug for me!! In all the time I've crocheted, I have always wanted to make myself a shrug. Somehow, I just never got to it. Now I have the most beautiful and well made knitted shrug and I couldn't be more thrilled.

Thank you so very much gerbilgal!
