2  Wasted Dream...a reality! in Needlework: Completed Projects by (cup)caketastrophe! on: March 06, 2011 05:02:08 PM
Last December I participated in my first art show featuring a handful of my embroidered pieces. I had an awesome night and even managed to sell some works, which I was blown away by. Here's a post I did for the flyer for the show. http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=364688.msg4282693#msg4282693 It was all embroidered, then cut into individual pieces, pinned in place, scanned, printed then photocopied. I wanted it to have a DIY punk flyer feel but still using embroidery as the main focus.

And here is a few photos of the newer pieces I had in the show and some pics from the night.

All done using either two threads, single thread or a single thread split in half or quarters. I actually finished her about 30mins before we opened the doors. Phew.

And this one is called Reminder. Yeah it kind of looks like a penis upon first glance and no that wasn't intentional but hey, it sold!

Me with all my works.

Everyone who participated in the show.

Newest project. Wanted this one to look a little bit more like the original sketch so no clean lines etc. Was fun to not be such an anal freak! All done with single thread.

Deets.

Inspired by a pretty great movie.  Grin

This took me two seasons of Deadwood to complete....stab you embroidery.

Hairy details.

Update: I forgot to mention...the eyebrows, eyelashes and a few other details are done with a single thread split in half. Not a method I would really endorse as it's like trying to embroider with a strand of freakin' fairy floss. Very VERY easy to snap. However I believe the extra effort and push towards insanity was worth it in the end.

6  Victorian Profiles - Gargh Zombies! in More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works by (cup)caketastrophe! on: May 05, 2010 03:28:53 PM
Did these awhile few months back. Sketched them out first then used pen and ink over a lightbox to finish them off. I'm not exactly a great artist but it's nice to get back into the swing of things again and I'm reasonably happy with how they turned out. I think I'd probably do a few things differently next time so hooray for learning from mistakes and stuff!

7  Skull Duggery in Needlework: Completed Projects by (cup)caketastrophe! on: April 28, 2010 07:36:51 PM
Haven't done much embroidery in awhile but finished a piece the other day that I'm kind of excited about. Did a collaboration with my boyfriend. He designed it and I embroidered it.

Edit: If anyone was wanting to see the stitching a bit closer up I just uploaded the original image to my blog so if you click on the photo there you'll see a bigger version. Best I can do for the moment.
