1  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / Ruffled Tomato Apron on: February 15, 2008 09:31:22 PM
I made this apron as a birthday gift for a friend who loves tomatos (her kitchen is tomato-themed). I used a tutorial from One More Moore - I'm so pleased with how it turned out!

2  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / The Swap Gallery / "Dobby Socks" Mismatched Sock Swap on: October 03, 2007 01:58:46 PM
Post 'em when you've got 'em!
3  Craft Swaps / ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED / "Dobby Socks" Mismatched Handmade Sock Swap - SIGN UPS CLOSED; SEND BY: Oct 2 on: August 14, 2007 01:15:49 AM
Swap name: “Dobby Socks” Mismatched Handmade Sock Swap
Craftster member who is organizing this swap: Madmatigan79
Sign-up date range: August 14 – 21, 2007
Date to send item by: October 2, 2007

Limited to a certain number of people?: 20

Restricted to people who all live in the same country? NO

All ages allowed? YES

Swap Organizer himself/herself meets these conditions:
- Has fully read the Swap Info Guide: YES
- Has successfully completed two swaps as a participant: YES
- Is not organizing more than three swaps right now: YES
- Will recruit a co-organizer or give all details to a Swap Moderator if this swap has more than 25 participants: YES

Swap Organizer will check each participant to make sure they meet these conditions:
- Has been a member for at least one month: YES
- Has posted at least 15 times: YES
-   Has completed one swap successfully before signing up for multiple swaps at a time: YES
- Is not currently signed up for more than five swaps: YES
- Does not have any negative feedback: YES

Details of swap:

This is a swap of mismatched handknit (or crochet) socks AKA: “Dobby Socks” (for those of you who are unfamiliar with the Harry Potter series, the character “Dobby” is a house elf with an affinity for mismatched socks hence the term “Dobby Socks”). Each participant will have two partners and will knit one sock PER partner. This means that each person will knit a total of TWO socks (but, following the individual preferences of each partner, these socks should be different) and will, in turn, receive two socks (one from each partner) that will be similar (following YOUR preferences) but different!

This is the perfect swap for those of you who, like me, seem to have an impossible time making a perfectly matched pair of anything (or for those of you who just like to make socks)!

The Rules:

You've probably heard them all before but here goes...

Due to the nature of this swap, you must be willing to ship outside of your own country, if necessary. You only have to ship two single socks, so shipping costs should be quite low.

Please acknowledge when you receive your package by sending a pm to both me and your partner AND by posting in the Swap Gallery (will post link to thread once swap is underway). Failure to communicate will be noted in your swap feedback.

PLEASE MAKE SURE TO POST IN THIS THREAD OR ACTIVATE THE 'NEW POST' NOTIFICATION FEATURE. This will ensure that no one gets left out of the loop as you will know when I or anyone else leaves a new message on this thread.

PLEASE DON'T SEND OUT EARLY without checking with me first! I will send a pm to check in with everybody a couple of weeks prior to the mail out date. When people reply to the check in pm, I will post a list on this thread. When your partner has replied, you may go ahead and send their package. Your partner will not send out until I have heard from you! (this method seems to have worked for other organizers in keeping things on track and weeding out flakers)

If, for whatever reason, you are going to have to send late (or worse, not send at all - we all understand that life can sometimes get in the way of crafting), please let me and your partner know ASAP. Avoid negative feedback by keeping in good communication!!

Also remember to read the Swap Info Guide to find out how to ship your item and other details about participating in a swap.

If you want to participate, information to send to organizer:

QUESTIONNAIRE TO ANSWER:
Name of swap
Craftster username

Foot measurements -
Length of foot (tip of big toe to back of heel):
Desired length of sock (from the floor up your calf as high as you want your socks to go):
ankle circumference:
calf circumference:
preferred colours (if you don't care, just put ANY):
preferred yarn weight:
Do you mind if your socks have fancy patterns (ie. lace or cables) or would you prefer plain old ribbing/stockinette stitch?
Any other pertinent information you'd like your partners to know (ie. vegan, allergy to wool, crazy about Harry Potter, etc)?
Is this your first time making socks?:

4  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / "Dobby Socks" Knitted Sock Swap? on: July 28, 2007 09:34:52 PM
Inspired by all the Harry Potter mania going on right now, I've been looking at the Dobby Socks in the book Charmed Knits, and thinking that they might be just the right project for my terribly short attention span. Also, since I seem to have an incurable case of "can't finish a pair of anything"-itis, the idea of purposely mismatched socks really appeals to me (for those of you who are unfamiliar with the HP series, the character, Dobby, is a house elf with an affinity for mismatched socks).

Then I thought, "'Dobby Socks' swap!"

My idea is that each person would have two partners but would knit only one sock per partner (the result being that each person ends up with a lovely pair of mismatched socks). This idea might appeal to non-HP fans as well (especially those of you who have perhaps been thinking about knitting a pair of socks but find the task of making two identical items daunting!).

Any takers? Sign ups could start asap with maybe a three-four week crafting time?

Details of swap:

Because there are more than a few crafty parents/grandparents/aunties/etc out there, this is a swap of items for the "little people" (read: children 12 years and younger) in our lives. Each person will craft at least three medium (time-wise) items (or equivalent, i.e. one large & one small, several small, etc) for their partner's child (or children). If you want to do more (or less), that is fine, as long as you have cleared it with your partner.

Consider the interests and age(s) of your partner's child(ren) and make things that will be appropriate.

7  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Baby/Kid Stuff Swap...any takers for yet another round? on: January 19, 2007 11:35:19 AM
Hello again crafty mamas (and aunties, daddies, grandmas or friends...)!

The last round of the Baby/Kid Stuff Swap was such a hit...is anyone interested in joining up for another go?

I'm thinking...sign-ups in late-Jan/early-Feb with send outs in early March (about a month to craft)? Unless people have other suggestions... Smiley

Any takers?

10  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Weddings and Bridal Showers / VERY unconventional wedding cake idea! on: August 30, 2006 02:24:24 AM
I just came across this idea on our wedding photographer's blog (yes...my wedding was almost a year ago, but I still love looking at other weddings!)...anyway, this couple did a Mexican Fiesta theme and they had a giant cake-shaped pinata! How freaking cool is that?

Here is the link:
http://redleafstudios.squarespace.com/red-leaf-studios-journal/2006/8/11/fiesta.html

I wish I'd had a pinata at my wedding. Pinatas are always a hit! Wink
