1  Re: 12 days of Christmas MINI swap gallery in The Swap Gallery by astarael on: January 07, 2009 07:02:48 PM
wow, everything in the gallery looks great!!

i have pics to post up from day 7 onwards..i know i've been slack but i've been working like crazy.  when you work two jobs in retail christmas isn't a holiday at all!!  Tongue

so, the last of the smalls was a blue and white crochet bookmark:

now, onto the mediums:
a punnet of knitted strawberries!  admiteddly for about a second i thought they were real strawberries but then realised my partner wouldn't have been silly enough to send real fruit in a swap lol!

an embroidered patch with a butterfly.  i'm thinking i wil use this to embellish one of our plain boring calico "enviro" shopping bags.

and two placemats with cross stich embroidery

some lovely scrapbooking paper as well as a scrapbooking magazine

for "hello kitty day", a knitted hellokitty purse with a matching coin pouch

and now for the large items:
a gorgeous hand beaded pin cushion.  the beads make a bird pattern and there is a pair of bird shapes sewing scissors attached.  Sansa said this was the item she found hardest to part with and i understand why, it is really beautiful!!

and on Christmas day:
my favourite item, an Amy Butler weekender bag!!  the fabric is gorgeous, blue and brown is my favourite colour combination!!  and it will be the perfect size to take to uni on days when i have take my laboratory coat!!  for an idea of how big it is, i used a pillow to pad it out and make it stand up for the photo

thank you so much Sansa for such a great swap!!

eep, it's taken me a little while to get my pics up.  today was my first day off since monday last week so i've been pretty busy.

anyway, here is my loot so far Tongue

Day 1: three lovely beaded star decorations.  the photo doesn't show it very well but the beads catch the light really well making them really sparkly!

Day 2: a crochet frog pincushion.  he sits on a little  lily pad which attaches to an elastic wristband.

Day 3: a cute fabric zippered pouch and...

a crochet hair scrunchie.  It looks really blue in the pic, but it's more purple in real life.

Day 4: an elastic bookmark/pen holder (which my sister and I both initially thought was a head band lol)

A little fabric pouch with two pockets, here is another pic of how it closes on the front:

and a lovely fabric covered notepad.

The notepad and bookmark are matching fabrics.

And for today: a fabric yarn "bucket".  It has four dividers to hold different sort of yarn.

Lol, it is taking large amount of self control for me to not open everything at once! :p

4  painting technique+bday card in Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: General by astarael on: May 06, 2008 05:39:13 AM

hi everyone,

here is a card that i made for my brother's friend's 21st birthday:

sorry, the scan doesn't really show the paint texture.
anyway, the patterned paper, i made my self, so here's a mini tutorial on
how to do it.

supplies:
paper (preferably watercolour paper, or some other fairly thick paper)
acrylic paints
dishwashing liquid/detergent
spray bottle
cling wrap/glad wrap/plastic food wrap (not sure what it's called in the
US, we call it glad wrap in australia)

select a few colours of acrylic paint (or you could just use one,
whatever you like). here, i used gold and silver. dilute them with some
water until they're a bit runny and then add some dishwashing liquid.
don't worry if it goes a little bubbly - this helps create the pattern.

using a sponge or a brush, paint onto the paper in any kind of pattern
you like (i just did random blobs). then, lightly spray over the whole
sheet with water using the spray bottle. then, tear off a sheet of
plastic food wrap that is maybe 1.5 times the size of the sheet of paper.
gently place over the painted paper, then wrinkle it up. try to wrinkle
it evenly (if that makes sense) otherwise you will end up with a really
small pattern in the middle and not much else on the edges.

wait until the paint has almost dried, then peel the plastic wrap off.
then leave to dry completely. done!! Cheesy

i made a whole bunch of papers like this in a range of different colour
combinations. the gold and silver on black paper worked out really well i
think. also, it is best to use watercolour paper, if you can (even though
it tends to be more expensive) as thinner paper will buckle due to the
amount of water in the paint and that you spray onto it. if you can't
find watercolour paper or it's too expensive, you can try flattening the
paper under some phone books or ironing it out (between sheets of
butcher's paper, so you don't get paint all over the iron).

hopefully you find this helpful Cheesy

10  30,000 PEACE FLAGS NOT 30,000 NUCLEAR WEAPONS in Crafty Charitable/Social Causes by astarael on: July 31, 2005 03:01:53 AM
I got a postcard about it.  It's a greenpeace project where they want to have 30,000 peace flags flying for the 60th Anniversary of the bombings of HIroshima and Nagasaki.  I'll post a pic when I'm done.

If anyone else wants to do it go to www.greenpeace.org.au/peace/flags.html.  It's an Aussie website but on hte gallery there's flags form Brazil and Fiji so I'm assuming that it doesn't really matter if you're not in Australia.  I'll prob. try to get to the thing at the State library on Melbourne and they're organsing stuff in other cities and states too.

EDIT:  i have pics

my flag flying at school

me with my flag (every day is a bad hair day)

our school also made 1000 cranes for peace and strung them up through the corridors so here are some more photos
