Love the butteryfly!  No I'll have to figure out how to make a skully one..

Here's the pics of what I did last night.

the sandwiches.

some finished poptarts.  I am useing some cotton craft thread I have had around for ever.  They are muted colors (which is why I have not been able to bring myself to use them.  But I love the way they look with all my whacky color fabrics.  My stitch rule is :I have to use all of the thread I pull out of the thread bundle on that one poptart, and if I need more thread I have to change to a compleatly different color.  OO and I just tye the knots on the front and leave the tails.  They get all fuzzy preatty quickly.  And on some of the poptarts I'm letting the raw frizzly edge hang out.  I also have been tearing the fabric so it is a bit stressed out but strait

Now I just have to rember to keep working onthe million other things I have to get done this month and save this to work on for down time;D

243  David The Moover_Un-Official CBC Radio Mascot for the Olympics in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by suereal on: July 31, 2010 10:48:10 PM
So this is a bit late, but I didn't know about this amazing site at that point, and I don't want him to just disappear into the ethos. I managed to be a wee bit in the Winter Olympics in Vancouver.  I had heard about the contest for the CBC Radio on the CBC news on Friday.  Saturday, I worked out what I wanted to do.  Sunday I made him.  And Monday I mailed him off.  I left for a visit to my parents on Tuesday.  Later that week, I was notified by email that I had won!  My prize was tickets to the opening of the Women's Skating that Sat.  But I was still in the US.  SO I asked them to donate them to a worthy cause.  The CBC gave them to a women's shelter in the Lower East Side of VanCan...great choice!  When I got back home a few weeks later, they awarded me with a full set of the official mascots...which was a better prize for me anyway.  I also got some cool CBC Radio stuff as well Grin  Here goes the pics!

I even got a photo in the local paper..LOOK!  They called me an ARTist Grin
Here I am with Cosmo at the display with David when we picked up my prize..Check out the other great entries.
This one was my favo..
We had to write a 100 word bio as well..and here it is..
NAME: David Julian Abhijit Xinshi
MEANING: Beloved Youthful One who is victorious Believe
SPECIES: Moover. 1/2 Moose, 1/2 Beaver
EYE COLOUR: Blue for the Ocean, brown for the mountains, green for the lush vegetation.
HOBBIES: Tattoos and piercing (girls love the Mountie tat)
DIET: Sushi, Naan, Maple Syrup, and Beer
JOB(S): Wants to be an extra, but has too "unique" a look. Is a tree planter, until he is discovered.
GOALS: To have a new sport in the next Olympics. It's called Yogockyboarding. It combines three of Vancouver's favourite pastimes into one unforgettable sport.

I was STUNNED when I won as there was several that got way better votes on Facebook..but I don't Facebook heheh.  All in all, the Olympics were a roaring success..even with out my little win.  Thanks for looking! Susi

244  Re: One tiny polymer clay thing gallery in The Swap Gallery by suereal on: July 30, 2010 01:31:36 PM
I got my package from craftylittlemonkey today and I am LOVIN it!  My first altered altiod tin!  And she got the subject matter spot on. And the colors too.  I love how she did the water.  It's so nice and swirly.  Then, on top of the cool tin, she sent me GLOW in the dark googly eyes!  I want to glue one to the middle of my forehead....they will defiantly come in handy.  and THEN on top of that, an uber cool stretch bead bracelet in one of my favo colors.  I'm wearing it now, and it's amazingly comfortable.

She also modepodged a pic of water reflecting light on the bottom inside of the tin, and bubbles on the inside edges.  There is even felt on the outside bottom of the tin...so I can pet it *giggle*

Thanks, Thanks Thanks!

245  Re: I <3 Gibbous Altered Fashions sew-along! in Clothing Sewalongs by suereal on: July 25, 2010 10:38:07 PM
I started too..and what a RUSH! IT was hard to stop and see what was going on really.  I started out with bias strips and left the bias dress peeking through after each strip..then I got board with that...
I think I will eventually pull out my Setacolors and make the cream silk strip blue..
Boy the pucker is showing way worse thru the camera then my old eyes heheh.  It is partly my wire model tho (I hope)

OK so this is when I started going a bit crazy...

I have been saving all the labels I cut off of things for a long time.  I pulled them out and I just could not stop sewing!!

It's getting stiff, but not too stiff, and I think I'm getting how to keep the skirt part drapeyer..but we will see Grin  I love the label part, and my skully shoulders (it glows in the dark!)..and I'm withholding opinion on the skirt still

What kind of threads are people using?  I used poly variegated (technically serger thread...but that never stops me from using it  when I want to)on the top, and cotton on the bottom.

So these are the things I have decided to work with.. Ignore the denium vest please, it is just to pad out my wire dress goddess

That is a close up of the front of the vest.  The bias shredded nicely.  I'm going to work it inside out, because I like the black support band that was in it.  I'll have to make sure and cover the tucks and stuff 'cause they just look silly hanging out like little fins..It is as a better color then shows here.  Kind of a wine burgundy.

A close up of the back shoulder and the hood I will add in (everything should have a hood or glow in the dark as far as I'm concerned Grin

A really bad photo of the back with the hood laid on so you can see the basic shape.

The bits I am starting with the vest.  I was thinking of mostly black, but I am liking the creams and greens with it.  I want to add a bit of orange too.  I'm going to put a patch I made of my Sig Pic (my little guy Cosmo as a butterfly) on the back just under where the hood will sit.

This is the fabric (lower right) and the bits I have started with for the skirt.  The fabric would not photo the color it is.  It is a weird combo of mustard, brown, and green.  It looks brown here.  I'll have to see about getting a true color for the end pick.  The skirt bit came off of a dress that had a really stiff and weird boxy top. The skirt was heavily pleated, so I have 96 inches in width to play with.  It's a heavy shantung (I think) silk.  I'm thinking I will lay a bit down then lay the silk over the bit and then sew, so it will be a bit stripy looking.

And this is the pile of washed woven silk upholstery bits I was given (I love my quilt guild. Yeah and THANKS  Blue Mountian Quilters!).  I will probably be using this on the skirt mostly..but maybe some on the vest too.

Too tired to start to sew, and I have stuff I need to get finished..so I will probably start in a few days I think.

Thanks for looking! sureal

248  Re: Lets See Pics of Tattoos You Designed! in Bath and Beauty: Completed Projects by suereal on: July 20, 2010 08:13:50 PM
I designed this for my husband after a shirt I had done for him. He got it tatted about 8 or 10 years ago (it needs re-inking).  It was done by Art at Funhouse Tattoo.

250  Emo Dino Maxie Hoodie-------Giant picture sandwich in CHALLENGE 52 ENTRIES by suereal on: July 05, 2010 03:52:06 PM
I was having trouble finding the sheet I wanted to work with.  I have a WWF (yes it's that old) sheet that I thought I would make a summer dress...but the Hub said no for some reason (I didn't REALY want to cut it up anyway.  There is something about sleeping with the HeadBangers once in awhile...OR the Macho Man Randy Savage!) I think I went to about 8 thrift shops before I found this...

By the way...if anyone knows what the translation of his name is please PM me

At the same shop I found a reallllyyyy long zipper that started at the top of my head and went nearly to the floor.  I have been thinking about a Maxie dress and so it all seemed to be destiny.

I made my own pattern with the trusty rusty newspaper method.  I wanted to have a length of the sheet uncut, so I decided that would run from the top of the hood down the back.

I left as much as I could on the space for draping part, so I could pin and drape the wrap around side to the long strip down the back.  I have not played with draping in a while, so I was nervous about cutting away too much first.  After I cut the pattern out, I put the zipper in before draping...

I did not manage to get any pics of it while I was draping the back tho...but here is a few with it 1/2 way done on the dress dummy.

Once I got it together I noticed this...I kinda forgot to worry about maching the seams where I had to add panels in the front to make it long enough...so....
I made pockets to hide my booboo a bit better.

I used Steam A Seam Lite to re enforce the pockets so the on bias pocket would not stretch out of shape.  I used SaSLite to put the name on the top of the hood and to seal up the space under where the zipper ended as well

I cut thin bias strips to finish the arm holes, and then just did a simple hem.  I had some longish bits left over so I made strips and braided them for a head band.  I simple tied a hair elastic in the ends to make it a bit stretchy.  I used the elastic to make a pony tail so I would not fall off.

This is what I had left over after that...

And now what it looks like on and such...

I left the tag on in homage to the sheet...

And last but not least....All Zipped up....don't think I'll be wearing it much like this....

But I LOVE it.  It's was really satisfying to do the whole fitting thing by my self.  And I am so pleased that the pattern worked out how I wanted it too.

Thanks for looking!
