the fabulous teachart noticed my whining regretfull thoughts about missing the matchbox swap sign ups, and very kindly ask me if I'd like to swap with her. I jumped at the chance, of course. She and I have swapped before, and we seem twisted in a similar direction . We agreed to swap "practical" stuffies as well. I knew right away what I wanted to do.
It was fun to make. I just picked a mug of mine with a big base, and sat it in the middle of a piece of paper. I drew around it to make the shape I wanted, adding enough space to put a few treats with your cuppa. I did it "paper bag" style....meaning I laid it out with the right sides of fabric together, and then batting on one of the out side layers, then the pattern. Cut it out, then sew around the shape near the outside edge, leaving room to turn it. OH yeah...put the face on before you do all of that....Then press it and free motion all over it. Super easy Thanks for looking
Babalina58 is helping several people get there lives back after the twisters that went through her town earlyer in the month. I wanted to do something to help her help out. So I made a quilt to send to her for her to give to one of the folks she is helping. My mom had been given a box of vintage fabrics hand cut triangles, and I had snitched a bag of them when I was down visiting recently, so I thought I'd use them. Since I didn't have to cut anything, it went rather fast. I was not liking it much, till it came out of the dryer, and was all nice and old looking. I mailed it off to Babs today
And her is my pup Cosmo "helping" me take photos..
LOL, Gabe's expression is priceless! Great start to your swapping life coconutbells! Love the chihuahua attitude and the wild life picture is adorable.
I got a fabulous de-stash package from craftylittlemonkey today. I got a pic of some of the craft suplies, but managed to put a few things where I wanted them before I took pictures....
She also sent a pack of Angel Cards, A granny chain which I totally need as I managed to replace one of my sets of cheater readers just this morning, a cute wooden alligator tchotche, and 4 Super Awesome! Cards of 4 of my favo things;Narwhals, Fedoras, Roller Derby, and Spontaneous Human Combustion..OO and some yummy yellow (not too bright, a nice soft yellow) ruff spun wool, that I'm considering making dread falls out of. There was also some ATC supplies which is way cool. I am especially excited about the blank paper pack as it has a lot of different papers cut and ready to go. I'm going to make her some Teasha Moore type "patches?"...I call them poptarts heheh... Thanks sooo much craftyLM!! I'm going to have a ton of fun with all this
Wulf--Does the Ontario Specialty Supply Co. look like a side show kind of on the out side? I think I saw it on a show a bit ago...
While it's no faery poo, this is one of my favo things I bought at Archies on my first visit. The fingers are really mine...I wish. Who doesn't want a hand full of mad Humbolt squid fingers? I'm getting me a pair of Hander Pants next time (tighty whities for you hands)...I so love that store
I made this for a partner in a swap...not going to tell you which one, because it's a surprise. I'll post who and what when they figure it out
Anyway, I made it up as I went along and it seems to have worked out. This mini tut is pretty chaotic tho...
OOoo I had not noticed the cute little square that got made by accident in the middle of the bag My mom gave me the fabric. I used a bag that clevercuttlefish (very cool lady BTW) made for me in a personal swap as a pattern. I needed to make it as sturdy as possible, so I tried to cut things so if there was a seam on one layer, the other layer would not have a seam there. I will explain as well as I can my process....For the outside layer I cut the top of the strap on a fold and so there was a fold on what would be the middle of the bag. I did it this way to help me keep track more then anything. Then I sewed (right sides together) from the bottom edge of the bag (leaving the very bottom open) all the way around the strap to the same place on the other side of the bottom of the bag. Then I sewed the other side of the strap (the "inside" edge of the strap) for about a 6 inches on either end of the top of the strap, where the curve in the strap was. Then I cut down the middle of the bag (the fold I cut in) on both sides, and turned the bag right side out through the handle "tube". I sewed the front and back seams back together, and the open bit at the bottom too at this point. Then, I cut out the lining (I used a med. weight canvas (duck?)). I cut another strip of lining with the strap on the fold and following the angle I had made with the outer fabric strap. I also cut about a foot of extra on each end of the lining strap. I then fed the lining strap through the outer fabric "tube", making sure the curve at the top was the same. I sewed them together on each side (top stitching I guess) until I was about a hand width from the body of the bag. I used the extra length of lining strap to make pockets at each end..
I sewed the 2 pieces of body lining together, and put it in the bag. I serged the raw edge of the outside fabric, as far as I could up the straps, and along the front edge. I folded that serged bit over the lining and sewed it into place. I then sewed the left over raw edges of the strap down as well. I tried the bag on and didn't like the way the strap was "puffing out" in places, so I pinned a bit and ironed a bit and then sewed the now twistyish strap down.
You can sort of see how the fabric is twisted here...
I didn't like the serged bits showing, so I rolled the edge one more time and sewed it down. I think that's about it...OO I had to sew the raw edges of the liner strap down at some point too. Here's a few action shots..
The strap is cut to be a cross body bag, but you can fold the top part of the strap under and wear it on just one shoulder and it stays on...that is what is happening in the last photo. I'm not sure it would have worked with a plainer fabric, but I think it suits this flowing pattern just fine.
OMG! I LOVE that hood cape..and all the other stuff too
I got a package from Babalina when I was on my trip to my folks and now I get to post the AMAZING things she sent me. This is after she and I have been tortured by the post office. They lost the first one at Christmas (I think the evil (not that they ALL are) postal people have figured out how cool her stuff is so they STOLD it ), and then she sent off another one...that her terribly evil postal outlet RAN OVER in their evil truck. But the kind postal faeries made sure this one got to me and I'm So HAPPY!!
This is one of the surviving two beer steins that she etched for me..the other four got ground into the other things she made when..well I mentioned that all ready..The blanket is a super soft minky on both sides and the letters stand for Best Friends Forever In The Box..which we totally are
This is the super cool "eye ball" bracelet she made for me. I LOVE it and it fits just perfectly. I bought the bangle bracelets the day before I got the package and they so go with it I had to show them too.
Then I opened a tiny box and found THIS. An inspirational rock, and the most beautiful necklace I own!
and a close up just for luck..
and THEN I found this hoop(ala) of my favo critter on the planet, my poodle Cosmo!!! I ssqqquuueed when I saw it
She also made him so peanutbutter whole wheat cookies that he was frantic to get to when I started to open the box. He LOVEs um
I also got this cool box stuffed full of whimsies...love the tiny box
and THEN THEN she sent a bunch of crafty extras too!
The white envelope is disposable moisturizing socks, which I immediatly put on, and my hooves did seem a lot softer the next day. She sent several boxes of Altoids, and I gave a few to my Mom to empty out for me. The too shiny to see things are 2 packs of Halloween buttons.
Thanks so much BabsyBaby!! I love everything, but I love us being BFFITB most of all
OKies...just got back from my trip yesterday and am posting all the bits I have accumulated for craftsters today..so incoming for my Random Acts of Kindness Swap..
Wulf was victim number one. He posted pics when he got the stuff My second victim has received, but not posted (I sure hope I didn't make them feel uncomfortable about it all..that was certainly not my intent.) I made minis of the swaps they said they couldn't join this month. This is a pic of the wee package I sent them. My third swap bomb..I mean Random Act of Kindness was harder to figure out. But I finally learned my partner LOVEs blind box critters. Yah know, those little plastic figures that you don't know what is in the box? So I bought her one, and an Ugly doll mini that she has been wanting for a long time. I almost painted it, but decided she should do it like she wants. I sent along a few bottles of acrylic paint that I think she will like(OKies..so...the 3rd victim is me. I won't have time to paint the fig till middle of May probably, but I will post picks of the finished fig when I get it done..and I DID get the fig I wanted at least )
As I am "prone to random acts of weirdness..." (ROFL), I may not be sticking to just 3......But I have to get a few "real" swaps done in the next few weeks..but I'll Be Back, as the Govinater says
WOOHOO! I'm back from me trip that just kept going on and on...thankfully (my parents are cool), and now I'm posting things that I should have posted weeks ago...so here are the cards I got for March..in no particular order..
I got these 2 cards from MandyKaye for glow in the dark
I'm still trying to figure out how to get good glow in the dark photos...partly because I forget to take notes about what settings I am using LOL. She said she had just bought some glow in the dark paint and wanted to use it. She said she was disappointed...but it seems to have worked better then the paint I GITD paint I have heheh. Love them both, but particularly fond of the lizard, as the glow pic looks kinda like a poodle-basset radioactive mixed breed...and I have a poodle and had a basset at one point Thanks so much
Thanks a bunch everybody! I hope to beable to make more claims soon (miss managed my swaps this round...)
This is from XtabsX for my Eyes want list...but it works for my deep sea critter want too
She apologized a few times (hehehe) for how ugly this little guys is..but one persons ugly is a nother's charming and I LOVE him! I just am so fascinated by the clear under sea folks Thanks a ton!
This last bunch is from tristitia
This one is the claimed card. It's called 5th position. It's for my Things With Wings catagory..and it so COOL! Love that it is not a normal thing with wings for one..and that it is a guy ballerina heheh
This is the extra (!) She says she was just "playing around" with textures and backgrounds, and decided to send it along...Lucky ME!! And my Hub...he LOVES this one most of all he has seen heheh. She used white muslin, colored tissue paper, Angelina fibers, silk thrower's (not sure I have read that right tho, not sure what it is...) waste, acrylic paint, stitching, fabric markers & sharpie, wool needle felted heart, beads, Duct tape (too cool!) and Ink!...I do believe that is the most materials I have gotten in an ATC..and I love it!! Very uber cool T!
And I think this wee card is just WICKED! I'll be putting it in my ATC book...even if it is not technically ATC
OOoooOO! I love that felted gerbil! The Yeti is adorable too
OKies so I got mine from prettyrustyrobot and she got the one I made. I'm going to post for both of us, as she is having trouble with camera and/or cell phone pics. SO her's is first
Isn't it cool? Love frilled lizards and the fabric is so fun. She also sent me the dolphin in a bikini (it's a magnet) and the cool live green band. I try to do that, but it is good to be reminded once in a while hehe. Thanks a bunch PRR!
now what I sent her...
A mom and baby manatee. She had a few in her wists, and when my husband reminded me that the mammary glands for manatee were in their armpits, I knew what I wanted to do. SO I found the pattern here on craftster (sorry I bookmarked it, but I'm not on my comp at the mo, so I'll post that when I get back), made the Mom and then cut the pattern down to make the baby. IT does all fit inside a 5 inch cube..I swear! Here is a pic of her feeding her pup.
PRR said she was "super happy" about it. I sure had fun making it
I will post a few pics here, but I didn't want to swap the thread too mcuh..
...just for Wulf
I'm so happy with how it all came out. I only bought one animal to hack up, there rest were in my stash. Thanks so much for letting me post here rackycoo. That made up for me not being able to play for sure LOL PS: Let me know please if you would prefer small pictures here.
