1  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / Re: DIY Rockabilly Halter Top (with tutorial link) on: May 21, 2013 02:36:13 PM
this would make an EXCELLENT swim suit top!
or even just a summer top to wear at the beach or something! Love it!
2  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Completed Projects / Mardi Gras bead cross wall art on: April 12, 2013 07:49:33 AM
Took me forever to complete this project!!
I went to Mardi Gras this year (2013), caught a TON of beads... Crafters really shouldn't be allowed to keep things that get thrown at them!!
Anywho, I needed some way to use the beads and hang them in my house, and I thought, why not craft them? So I got a nice, basic shape (the cross, excellent straight lines!), wrapped it in black ribbon (2", satin I believe) and started gluing! I hot glued all the beads on, starting from the bottom up.

(In progress shot)
And kept going, until I reached the top. I made sure to do the tops and bottoms of the cross's arms last so that I didn't mess it all up. I used pink and blue for the center, as that represents me and my husband (pink is my fav color, blue is his). I also used soft pearly pink, pearly white and silver. I cut the beads, and individually placed these. For the purple gold and green, I left them on their strings and just bunched them together.
I have not put a high gloss lacquer coat yet, but I'm intending to so that it's easy to clean and so the beads don't fall off.
Finished product:

In total, with all the individual beads and such, this project took me about 8 hours from start to finish. It took me almost 3 months to complete because I get distracted easily, and life happens. A lot.
I am currently working on a Fluer-de-lis with smaller beads. This is taking me a LOT longer, with all the tiny crevasses and whatnot. But I'm getting all the in-progress shots that I forgot to get with this one, and I'll post that one too, and add the link to it on this post.
Hope y'all like it!

I've started on my skirt! I wish I could find my camera so that I could post in-progress pictures!

AHHH!! I must have a skirt like this! I finally got a sewing machine, and I'm looking to make a skirt (I love the big, flow-y floor-length skirts like this!), and I totally want to know how you did this! I can cut 4x4 squares... easy... how do you "ruffle" the levels? Huh
EPIC SKIRT, you TOTALLY ROCK. Grin Grin Grin

5  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Winter Holidays / Re: 2011 Holiday Crafting To Do Lists! on: August 31, 2011 02:02:04 PM
this year, since I'll be studying throughout the holidays for my paramedic class, I'm only making a few gifts-for my mom, sister, and husband-to-be, and maybe the cats for their first Christmas.
I got my inspiration from here: http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=358157.msg4214941#msg4214941 for my mom and sister (and me)
so, here's my list:
mom:
-embroidered hoop in the likeness of Tuna, her first adopted stray cat. (BIRTHDAY-November)
-embroidered hoop in the likeness of Shadow, her second adopted stray cat (Christmas)

Sister:
-embroidered hoop in the likeness of Hilcroft, her adopted stray cat (Christmas)
-cross stitch: "finer than frog's hair split four ways" with either cross stitched or embroidered frog (Christmas that was supposed to be birthday August 16, but I got distracted... darn shiny things)

Hubby-to-be:
-blank- (I have no clue. I'm sure I'll come up with something, but he's a gamer, and doesn't like stuff laying around, not even throw pillows. Maybe I'll make an entertainment center to put in the game room that'll hold his tv and all his junk.)

the cats:
-Momma: a special window bed- they used to sell them everywhere, but now I can't find them, so I'll just make one.
-Monster: toys. with catnip. and feathers. oh, the fun we will have!

me:
-embroidered hoop in the likeness of my adopted stray cat, Momma
-embroidered hoop in the likeness of my who-I-thought-was-my-adopted-stray-cat-but-is-actually-my-fiance's-cat, Monster. apparently, I'm just the food lady. Cry
-a faux-fireplace that I can take down and put up next year (might involve shelves) so that I can put our stockings up!

6  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / The Swap Gallery / Re: Giant Multi-Theme Round 3 Gallery on: August 25, 2011 07:28:15 AM
I've received!!! nostephot sent the most awesome package ever!!
so, without further ado, the awesomeness:
Theme 1: "Pixelated Fun"

it has a huge amount of awesome coasters from old school video games (both me and my SO are geeky like that, and we love everything!!) like Mario and Zelda, and 5 coasters representing the 5 choices in the Big Bang Theory's rock-paper-scissors-lizard-Spock, and and awesome 1986 Donkey Kong bookmark, and an epic (my friends have already tried to sneak it out the door!!). she also included an awesome cross-stitch pattern for me to do later, which shows the BBT's rock-paper-scissors game and it relativity between all the choices.
(whew! I'm already spoiled!)
Theme 2: "Geeky Pillows"

I've had these on my wist for a while... because I can't really sew pillows... they always pop their seams, and the stuffing comes out! but now I have them! they finally make it home to my couch after almost being taken away by a co-worker-who loves the mustache, and even has one tattooed on his finger-and now much geeky couch has a fabulous 'stache! She also threw in a floppy disk notepad, which has been absconded by the SO (who is a computer techie, and claims that it is "necessary" for him to have the notepad, for his "job"  Grin
Theme 3: "Louisiana"

Another loaded down theme, and a totally spoiled me!
it has two kitchen towels with crawfish on them (I love them crawdad's!), a bowl made out of Mardi Gras beads (genius! and already being used as a candy bowl!), two recipe cards, a few pictures that she took and they are also stickers!, a keychain with fluer-de-lis on it, and a frog clicker that I'm sure will be absconded by my sister as soon as she sees it, and a carnival poster/newspaper, and a "who dat" magnet (not pictures, since the SO was admiring the teeny tiny stitching) and a fluer-de-lis tissue packet holder (perfect for movies!!), which got grouped with Theme 5, I'm not sure why...
Theme 4: "Harry Potter"

a very awesome hoop of the Hogwarts crest! (yay for another hoop for my hoopla wall!!), a Harry Potter lego necklace, and an altered tin FULL of magnets! (seriously, I pulled a few of them out to look at them, and when I put them back in the tin, the lid wouldn't shut!)
Theme 5: "SINbonnet Sue"

I love the idea of the SINbonnet Sues- the seven deadly sins! I've been wanting to make a quilt with the seven deadly sins as the focal point... but I'm not too good at stuff like that...
so she made me 4 of the seven Sues, Greed, Gluttony, Lust, and Envy. she also gave me stuff to finish the other three; Sloth, Vanity, and Anger. on the cd is the patterns so that I can embroider some to put in frames on the wall! (and there's the tissue pack!)
and, the whole package, all together!

Thank you so much nostephot!! I love it all!!!  Grin Grin Grin

do you remember what kind of christmas decoration the bubbles were? like, a garland or something? I don't think I've ever seen the individual bubbles before...
