1  CROCHET / Crochet: Completed Projects / Re: Jacob's Snakes And Ladders - epic scrap blanket on: April 02, 2013 09:28:11 AM
While I'm waiting for Hobby Lobby to get more yellow I Love This Yarn in stock (two months and counting...), I decided to start on a baby version of this. It's alternating rows of scrap yarn in assorted pastel colors with rows of white, and it'll have a white border. If I have enough of my scraps to do it, I'm thinking two rows of color, two rows of white. Planning to start it this afternoon, and donate it to our local NICU when I finish it. Smiley

Finished the body of the blanket! Waiting until Monday to put on the border, because I'm a moron and left the black yarn for the border sitting at the office... but I should have it finished by Tuesday, making it six weeks from start to finish. Nowhere near as impressive as eight days, but mine wound up being king-sized, so I'm happy with it. Smiley Thanks again for the pattern, it's gorgeous!

Unfortunately, work has gotten in the way of this. I also had to frog a solid NINE ROWS and redo them, because I took it to the movies and skipped a stitch way the heck back there... Plus I made it wider, because I like ginormous blankets that I can bundle up in with room to spare... So it's taking a LOT longer than your eight days, LOL!

BUT!!! I am pleased to report that I've passed the halfway point! As I type this I'm five rows from completing my fourth pattern repeat, which will be 2/3 of the blanket done. When finished, it should be close to 6 feet square. Smiley

My work laptop is ancient and doesn't like my phone, so I can't post a pic right now, but I will as soon as it's finished! Thanks again!

Bought the pattern this weekend, started it this afternoon at work, and I'm currently about halfway through the first pattern repeat. I've just got to say, you did an AWESOME job writing up a clear, easy to follow, super fast pattern! I can't wait to see how mine turns out. Thank you!
5  CROCHET / Crochet: Discussion and Questions / Re: Yarn Bombing Los Angeles- Covering the Craft and Folk Art Museum in Grannies! on: January 20, 2013 09:17:03 AM
Just got my confirmation email. My 92 squares were received yesterday. Now to finish a couple of other projects, so I can buy more yarn for this without feeling guilty!

Up to 70 finished squares. 15 bright orange, 10 yellow, 14 white, 21 purple, and 10 lime green. I've got half a skein of the lime green left, plus a full skein of bright blue, and I just found two more skeins of white that may go toward this, or may go toward a Stormtrooper blanket later this year. We'll see! I'm going to finish the green and blue, then stuff all of the squares into a box and see how much room I have left before I decide where the white is going. Smiley

That is awesome. Definitely making this for Christmas next year!

Current square count for me: 15 bright orange; 10 yellow; 2 purple.

I'll be on the road most of the day tomorrow, so I'm hoping to add a pile of new ones to these! Purple is what I'm working on at the moment, with white next, and lime and cyan after that. Smiley

Yarn Bombing Los Angeles is on a mission, and they need our help! They're covering the Craft and Folk Art Museum in LA with 5" granny squares to transform it into a giant doll house!

So here's the deal: They need 5" granny squares in solid colors (bright orange, lime green, white, cyan, hot pink, purple, and yellow) to put together and cover the museum. All submissions need to have a tail of 5 to 6 inches so they can stitch them together, and they need to arrive no later than March 1st, 2013. If you want to receive press credit for your work, include your name, location, and favorite type of stitch in your package of squares.

Send your squares to:
Yarn Bombing Los Angeles
c/o Arzu Arda Kosar
18th Street Arts Center

Santa Monica, CA 90404

Additional info, as well as the contact form to officially sign up, can be found here: http://www.yarnbombinglosangeles.com/call-for-entry.html

Hope to see lots of squares from the Craftster gang on the finished project!!!

~Kismet~

**NEW INFO**
Once the display is finished, all of the squares will be washed, sewn into blankets, and given out to the homeless in LA. So it's a doubly awesome project.

***MORE NEW INFO***
Squares can still be mailed in until March 1st, so please consider making at least one!

Also, they're fundraising to cover the cost of the installation. They need to raise at least $8,000 by February 20th in order to receive any funding. All donations are tax deductible. They're at $3,972 right now. If everyone who sees this post can come up with $5 or $10, they'll be able to install this awesome project. Please take a look at the link, and donate if you can! Thanks!

I've got all my squares finished, but haven't gotten them put together yet. This silly "work" thing keeps getting in the way of my crochet time-how rude! Wink I'm working on putting them together, slowly but surely. Trying a new method for attaching them, so we'll see how that goes. At the moment, it's the border round of white for all 25 squares that's eating up my time. Then, if I understand this tutorial right, I'll stitch each row together using groups of dc and chains. It looks interesting, anyway! I haven't gotten to the actual joining, but I'll link the tutorial in case anyone's interested. Happy Valentine's Day! Smiley
