1  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / Starry Starry Charm Bracelet on: August 13, 2010 09:25:54 AM
So I just got a whole bunch of beads and whatnot from a gal on craigslist and many of them were cubes, which I didn't know quite what to do with...but these blue ones made me think of Starry Starry Night by Van Gogh...or more accurately...the episode of Doctor Who with Van Gogh Grin

Anyway, it's my first charm bracelet ever.  I rather liked making it even though it took a while and my fingers hate me a little!

2  POTTERY, CERAMICS, POLYMER CLAY / Polymer Clay: Completed Projects / Dwarf (yet to be named) on: June 21, 2010 04:33:25 PM

My first time competing in any kind of challenge...I found a list online of mythical creatures and thought a dwarf would be fun to do.  He looks a bit too much like Gimli from LOTR, but then again, so did many of the drawings I saw from dwarves, so maybe they don't have a lot of genetic diversity.  Dwarfs are miners by trade, and this one is such a hard worker, he broke his pickaxe Grin

I made him for the first deadline, but when I saw that it had been extended, I put off taking the photos.  Sorry they're blurry, my camera is old and apparently hates me.
3  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / four bracelets, two made with buttons! on: May 12, 2010 02:40:59 PM
I spent two years at this great Americorps program called City Year and made four really great friends while I was there.  Unfortunately, now we are separated by distance, so I tried to make them all pretty bracelets that captured their personalities.

Crys is obsessed with button bracelets, so I made one for her.  There's tons of empty space, too, for her to add charms and beads from her collection of broken jewlery Smiley

Jeni loves the Starfish Story (http://www.ordinarypeoplechangetheworld.com/articles/the-starfish-story.aspx).

Michelle is a total hippie.  The chain is a broken necklace tied into knots in between the beads.  I found the shell at the beach.

In all honesty, Megyn got this one because the button bracelet I tried to make her foiled me three times.  But this is definitely something that all of us agreed is totally Megyn.

Sorry about the long-winded story behind the bracelets!
4  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / two antique-looking avian-themed necklaces on: April 22, 2010 01:00:10 PM
Hello, I'm brand new and here are a few things I've made recently Smiley

My owl necklace:

The leaves and beads were a pair of earrings on clearance at Claire's.  I got the chain and owl from Michaels.  This is typically not my style, but I love it.  I put longer links on the owl so it dangled a bit more freely.

Bird necklace:

I made this for my friend, Rachel.  Same chain from Michaels.  I had Rachel choose what charms she wanted from a little bag of bird charms I purchased.

Thanks for looking!
5  NEWS AND DISCUSSION ABOUT CRAFTSTER / Introduce Yourself / what have I gotten myself into? :) on: April 21, 2010 08:40:23 PM
Hi, my name is Amanda, I'm 26, and currently a resident of Lansing, MI.  I'm a third-year Americorps volunteer and I never really thought of myself as being very crafty.  A few years ago I started cutting up t-shirts to make a quilt, but I was using my roommates supplies, so when I moved, the squares went into hiding.

I started playing with polymer clay a little while back and quickly moved into making jewerly for my friends.

And now I've bought a sewing machine.  Oy.

Anyway, I've been poking around on craftster.org for a while now and finally got an account so I could stop lurking.  I have a very large mental list of things that I want to make now...I don't have much money, but I have heaps of time Smiley
