will it presurve them if i cook put in the glass jars then put upside down so they become air tight? or will it go off because its not jam?

its a friends and i want to make her a gift, she sent me some scrap fabric from her baby carrier wrap theres not that much of it but i guess i could add some other fabric if need be.

it started off as a dark oak stained table.

i sanded it

painted its legs

decoupaged the top

but the decoupage is to patchy (you can see the papers edges and i need to redo it)

do i go over it with napkins or strip it off and start afresh with napkins?

what can i do with them, i have used fabalon before (sticky backed patterned plastic) it was really effective, i have spaire old units in the utility room but they are horrid dark wood (orangy) effect melamine. if i painted them what could i use and how would i make it not look crap. thanks
